  1. Please refrain from bashing anybody's religion or lack of religion, please. You should be able to talk about this proposed park without flaming others.
  2. I guess we now know why she couldn't talk about certain aspects of the deal. There was no real "deal" in the first place. She should return the money she's collected, too. Maybe the flea-market people need lumber from Big Dipper to build booths.
  3. They think they can pull in 1.6 million guests per year. Reaching this figure will definitely require divine intervention.
  4. ^^After watching the video again, I think you're right about the location of Vanish Point. ^I recall someone asking John Reilly about a potential "dark ride" section for the new coaster, but he neither confirmed nor denied it.
  5. Meanwhile, back at Water Country USA, construction (or, at least, ground clearing) has started for Vanish Point, the park's new slides. This video was posted on the park's Facebook page. It looks like Vanish Point is going to be installed somewhere in the vicinity of Big Daddy Falls and Aquazoid, as near as I can tell.
  6. ^Forcing suspected insurgents to ride it would constitute a violation of the Geneva Convention.
  7. ^^Agreed. As Robb said over at the GL fansite, the Zippin Pippin project has more support because professionals with an actual plan are involved. Resorting to personal attacks sometimes works when you're running for office, but they're a last gasp otherwise.
  8. I'm off to Cullowhee, North Carolina, about an hour west of Asheville, to visit some old friends--more displaced Californians. Much turkey and pie will be consumed, plenty of beer and wine will be drunk, and a number of stupid movies will be watched. We may even experience a little nature--who knows?
  9. No, but I think this is by far the most entertaining of them three! It does have that going for it.
  10. It's very hard for me to think that, figuring as another investment sunk like a rock, and really didn't amount to a successful amusement park. Yes, I think the Save the Big Dipper thing pales in comparison to the Wild West Park/Hard Rock Park fiascoes.
  11. ^Twenty-five years is probably the maximum sentence. That doesn't mean that they will be sentenced to 25 years. Up to a judge and jury.
  12. Here's a very obscure (not to mention wretched) movie that used the old Long Beach Pike: The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-up Zombies. There's even some wood coaster POV in it. This flick is completely unwatchable without the help of Mike and the Bots on MST3K.
  13. ^I merged your topic with the already existing Morey's Piers Discussion thread. I assume you're referring to the GCI that was mentioned in this thread earlier?
  14. That would be a bummer if House of Blues left--always thought it was the best of the "Hollywood" type chain restaurants (the others being the Hard Rock Cafe and the wretched Planet Hollywood).
  15. First, I'm happy to see two more IAAPA videos. Second, I'm sad that the coverage for this year is over. But there's always next year--thanks, Robb! I still have yet to check out a Flowrider--the Lazy River combo looks like a good idea.
  16. Well it just better be ready by 4/2/11 for KD's opening day. Or else what? The angels might cry? Once again, thanks for this look at IAAPA, Robb. There are many interesting projects in the works for 2011, and I'm particuarly intrigued with what Intamin and ProSlide are up to.
  17. I just watched the latest video and I have to ask, Was that helicopter drop ride as painful as it looked? It also looked seriously terrifying. Those new Proslide designs look great.
  18. ^Those do sound pretty damn good.
  19. All this, and an interview with Spider-man to boot--what's not to love about the IAAPA updates? Thanks for the interview with Sandor Kernacs, Robb. Looks like another banner year for Intamin in 2011.
  20. Just finished watching the video, and I'm especially impressed with what Sally Corp. has cooked up--the classic dark ride is really getting some love.
  21. It's good to see that Proslide is keeping the "Bubba Tub" type slide alive and well. I love the old one at Wet 'n' Wild in Orlando.
  22. Europa is the best theme park in Europe--better than Paris Disney (which is pretty damn good). The theming is excellent, the hotels and food are great, and there's a great variety of attractions for all ages. I was particularly impressed with the walkthrough "gem mine" that interacted with both the powered coaster and the log flume. Thanks for the TR, Joey--I have to get back to this park someday.
  23. Yes, that is disappointing. Turbine was the best coaster there. Agreed--the Tutankhamen shooting dark ride is great, and they have a good mine-train coaster, too.
  24. Great job on the updates, Robb, Elissa, and Eric--you really kept yesterday interesting. I'm looking forward to checking out the video at home tonight.
  25. I'm looking forward to seeing Sally's video-game/dark-ride hybrid showing up in some American parks. Sally does more than just plywood cutouts with targets on them--the Tutankamen ride at Walibi Belgium is one of the best shooters this side of Men in Black.
