  1. I'm confused. One park was closed forever and is sitting abandoned, the other was a complete sh*thole that was run by Six Flags for reasons that nobody understood and has since been purchased by the zoo and improved dramatically with a bunch of modern rides (including a brand new log flume) and slides while keeping the classic family coaster operating. Both parks went in completely opposite directions. You're a really good poster and you know your sh*t, so I'm not attacking what you're saying, I'm just confused as to why you'd put them in the same boat. Personally I think what happened to Wyandot Lake is the best thing that could have reasonably happened to it. Not saying that the zoo acquisition wasn't a good thing. It did, however, transform the rides/attractions side of the business into primarily a water park. Both parks shared that similarity, that's all I was getting at. Point being, it is extremely improbable that Darien would go that route. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  2. Unless you know of some sort of voodoo curse that was put on all the former Funtime properties, I highly doubt that Darien Lake will be going the way of Geauga and Wyandot Lake. I don't want to gang up on you, but unfounded speculation and conspiracy theories about the park closing can do nothing but hurt the park's image. Might want to take that into consideration in the future.
  3. I think it could make a world of difference. CNL's REIT had matured and they were in the liquidation/exit phase, so it didn't really make sense for them to invest in the property so close to a sale. EPR just acquired the park, and will hopefully invest in marketable capital to increase the park's value.
  4. True, it wouldn't impact CP in a meaningful way if it remained as-is under SF. The real threat was SF selling it to another operator who could potentially impact the market. CF knew SF was struggling and obviously thought that the park has potential to grow in the market when they purchased it.
  5. You say "fesses up" as if his reasons were in any way nefarious. I guess I don't get the CF hate when it comes to GL. It wasn't successful under Six Flags, so CF purchased it in order to maintain security in that market and tried to develop it into another successful product by investing in the property. They succeeded at securing the market, but unfortunately failed at reviving the struggling park and closed it down. Totally understand being upset nearly 10 years later, but I don't get demonizing CF on this one.
  6. Great to hear that this park is starting what will hopefully be a bright new chapter in its history. This is in-line with what I imagined would happen if the park got sold to another REIT. I think Premier can do some really great things at this park when partnered with an owner that builds marketable capital investment into their growth strategy. I believe they are just referencing a popular meme, nothing more.
  7. Don't they have several rides in on site storage. If the money is tight for new rides, they might need to consider pulling stuff out of storage. Last word is they have Batman the Escape, Intamin Stand up in storage for SF Astroworld, which was originally at SFMM as Shockwave. Also, they supposedly removed the UFO for restoration in 2013 and never brought it back. I would imagine refurbishing and installing BTE would cost more than a brand-new coaster of comparable size at this point. And let's be honest, it's a crappy ride anyway. Same thing with UFO. i bet they could snag a new flat for around the same cost as retrofitting UFO to meet modern standards.
  8. Dragon Mountain is worth stopping by for. I saw nothing of concern as far as animal treatment goes when I last visited in 2014.
  9. Off the top of my head... Wildcat - Fantasy Island Nightmare at Phantom Cave - Darien Lake Speed, The Ride - Sahara SkyRider - Canada's Wonderland Shockwave - Kings Dominion OG Hulk - Islands of Adventure Disaster Transport - Cedar Point Wildcat - Cedar Point
  10. ^That is the least expensive ticket option for tonight, save for the Season Pass Bring-A-Friend ticket. If you were considering getting a Cedar Fair platinum pass in 2017, you could purchase that tonight at the lowest rate of the year and use your free 2016 visit for SCarowinds. Regular SCarowinds Admission is $55, so even if you do not use the Sunday Daytime ticket it is still a great value! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  11. Decided that I may get back into NoLimits during the off-season. I started working on what would probably be a physically and financially prohibitive 700ft. tall, 150mph Intamin Accelerator coaster. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] It took a few hours just to get the level of detail I wanted for the supports for the top part of the tower... so this is going to take a while to finish supporting and theme. Especially since I don't have a lot of free time.
  12. Agreed. We actually had a few ERT sessions for enthusiasts in the time that I was there. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  13. It's great that Fury was able to earn back-to-back golden tickets (best new ride in '15, best steel coaster in '16). Also promising to see how awesome some of the newer B&Ms are. Fury and Banshee are two amazing rides, and Valravn even exceeded my expectations! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  14. Maria's received a remodel in 2014. I personally prefer it over Beaver Bros, but my go-to is the General Store Deli for a sub. The General Store also was remodeled in 2014, if you haven't been recently. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  15. The drop slide installations seem to be very popular with guests across the chain, so I think it is a good move. That flat ride looks amazing! Going to want to keep the hose and disinfectant close at hand though. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  16. ^ You say "also added" as if you still believe that the "rattling" has anything to do with it. And if you were never concerned about B&M's restraints, then why did you say that the "rattling" could "'potentially' cause a restraint to come open." You said one thing, now you are saying something else. So, I can't follow your argument if you have one. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  17. ^ I can assure you that the "rattling" would not cause a restraint failure. I can also assure you that the seat belts are not there because of the "rattling." You even said it yourself... Diamondback is "smoother" and it still has the belts, so even by your own logic the "rattling" is not the cause for the belts. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  18. If this is a teaser, it's my favorite teaser. At the very least it can be used to drown enthusiast's sorrows until the fate of Mean Streak gets sorted out. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  19. UFO is in the lay-down yard as well. The trains for Batman I believe are still back there along with parts for Crazy Quilt and a few other rides. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  20. I would imagine so. If I recall correctly, Carowinds moved theirs without much of an issue. It honestly will probably drive more revenue inside the park than outside depending on where they move it. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  21. Uh huh. Flying sunglasses and GoPros. How many coasters or flats even have netting over them to catch flying objects ? Under them sure, but I think the trough has that covered. Take a closer look at that netting. I can fit objects much larger than sunglasses or GoPros through the lattice. In addition cameras are not allowed on the ride unless you are a member of the media and use their camera. http://www.schlitterbahn.com/kansas-city/rides/all-new-verruckt Birds and other wildlife. How many coasters or flats have netting over them to keep birds and other wildlife out of the ride path? Have you ever been to CP? They have gulls and sparrows everywhere. Everywhere that is except anywhere near the coasters. They hang around begging for french fries and repay you by pooping all over your car. They know there is no profit in hanging around coasters or slides. How many reports have there been of riders attacked by gulls or "other wildlife" at CP or any other park for that matter? I would imagine getting hit in the face by a gull or even a sparrow at a 120mph on TTD would cause some serious damage and might even make the news. Also what kinds of non-bird wildlife are you concerned about interfering with the safe operation of a water slide? Kansas Flying Monkeys? Nice try though. The park owners were very proud of their flying rafts as evidenced by the letting Travel Channel have footage of them and broadcast it on Extreme Waterparks. So yes I can imagine what the media would do. Broadcast the footage and sell advertisements. That's what they did. Sorry, I know this was pages ago. The only point I was making was that there could be a multitude of reasons for the netting, and as others have said, all master blaster installations have netting - so I doubt its purpose is to catch flying rafts. That is just my take on that specific topic. Didn't appreciate the condescension either. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  22. Just want to preface this by reiterating that we know close to nothing at this point. But the net could be there to catch flying objects like sunglasses, GoPros, etc. Or potentially to keep birds or other wild life out of the ride path. Just a thought... Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  23. That is near Carolina Cobra. You can see the marquee sign and the supports to the left and right of the blue trashcan on the right hand side of the photo. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  24. Absolutely heartbreaking. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy; first responders, the ride operators, park staff, and especially the family and friends of Caleb. What's more, it is surprising that something like this can still happen despite today's rigorous safety standards and best practices that are implemented throughout the industry. I will be interested in what the investigation determines as the cause of the incident. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
