TR: It's SHOWtime at Disney's Hollywood Studios!
chadster replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
It's certainly nice to see what show offerings they have, but I too dislike them. I got to an amusement or themepark for rides and attractions, not a high school musical. If I want to see I show, I will go to broadway or Vegas. Nonetheless, it was nice to see something different, just not all of the time -

This offseason I planned on saving money, but with that extra week of vacation they are giving us I must say I am searching for places to go. Silver Dollar City and SFoT both stay open until the end of Dec first of Jan respectively, so within a 3.5 hour drive of my location I can get my fix if need be. And it will be needed. So, I'll go somewhere warm in Feb which is our snow season, other than that, work on my various projects, not to mention work work. Sadly, one of three projects seems to have died, even more sad, I really loved the plans for it, unfortunately, the economic outlook for the particular area of this project is grim at best and the risk is to great for the developer to move forward at this time, oh well. Speaking of West Coast Bash, when are the dates usually announced? -

^ You beat me to it! Anyway, these mini-reports I look forward to as I often visit the Orlando area in the off season (jan-early march). Being as many of the parks close at 6 or 7 during this time, I'm always looking for something to fill in the time with and this appears to fit that bill (of course, only if I had kids or a group of females with me, going alone would look, well, like I was a creeper) -

ask Kat when the Big Dipper will be open seriously tho, it would be nice to know what Huss has up their sleeves, seems they've stalled a little on new ride designs. -

one of these days they are going to get this fire thing right on the other hand, if they would quit using intamin cable.... -
^ It's sister does pretty much the same thing @ SFOT, and as a bonus, practically stops you in the MCBR, so if your in the front, you feel like you are going to fall out the left hand side as the track makes an immediate left hand turn off the BR. On occassion, it's gets stuck in the MCBR and they have to give it some encouragement.

Exactly. No one thought before they spoke about gathering up volunteers and trucks, then, when one of a few people actually volunteered, they publicly brushed them off IMO, now thats truely sad and pathetic. Maybe someone pointed out to her that they needed someone (a company) licensed and bonded to do the actual work. This whole project used to make me laugh, now it makes me sick. I'll be honest with everyone, I did give it a bit of thought when I first saw it posted on ebay, like hey, cheap ride, I've got land to put it on, then, reality stepped up to the plate. How much to tear it down, how much to transport it, how much to repalce damaged supports, how much to pour new footers, how much to replace the track bed, how much to rehab the trains and mechanicals, how much in upkeep, how much in insurance, how much to physically operate (electric) etc, and the thought quickly and promptly left my mind, all in about 5 minutes. I'm no rocket scientiest, but as it gets colder, it's going to be harder and harder to get the thing out of there, some things just don't like to be tinkered with when it's frozen. So, in all reality, they have about 4 good months to get the thing gone. It'll be a miracle. For now, moving on to more important things like SFNO or Freestyle, oh who am I kidding... -
In any design it's a good idea to show what it will look like, even if it's eventually. Many shopping/retail/housing developments are built in phases but complete renderings are shown to planning commissions or in public meetings to show what they will eventually be doing. So I don't really think that it would be unreasonable for them to show a completed drawing, even if they don't really have a full plan. Speculating what they could be thinking here would be to get some quickie drawings out to the public, see the reaction, see the reaction of the council, then decide if a complete engineering and architectural design are warranted as those cost big dollars. Too much backlash, you walk away, at least a logical person would walk away. Hitting on another comment about cost, they could up hit up ital and buy a dozen flats(who cares what kind, just through them in) for around 2 million (hey six flags, hint hint), then transport freestyle/hard rock's coasters once bought out of bankruptcy for 10 or 20 million, build the traditional pond for not much money, put down some asphalt and prefab buildings and bam, instant park! Then, if they actually survive, add a coaster each year until they hit the magic number of 15 all while incurring the same debt level as Cedar Fair. If they get it built, like I said before, I will go, maybe just once, but I wil go, quickly after opening.

I didn't find it too bad at all, wished it would've had the new restraints on it when it first opened as that would've put icing on the cake. The only part I didn't care for were the twisty's due to the restraints. On the intensity level 7/10. Could ride it all day. -

I just re-read that other site that hasn't been updated in forever and just really noticed where someone volunteered to get what I assume is the equiv of a "POD" at a discount and to help clean up. The response was they weren't taking volunteers onsite as access was limited. WTF??? not a thank you, we'll contact you, send us your info, nada, it was we only want your money and trucks but not you, but we asked for help, but we really don't want it because we can't take you onsite because we don't really know where it is or what we are doing behind the super secret closed doors because I can't add. -
Well I have to say they had me at launched motor bike coaster, then when they added the possibility of an intamin cable, I was sold. I'm sure they won't start with 15 coasters, more like 5 or 6, hey wait, isn't that what Hard Rock started out with? hmmmm. If they build it, I will come, or go, which gets me there first.

So finally, how about some bonus footage Noted! The Hoover Dam bypass bridge walkway opened while I was in town and was VERY popular. I went late in the day to get some shadow pics it took me about 12 minutes to walk to the end of the bridge's pedestrian walkway. you only enter from the Nevada side. I'm about 50 feet from bridge center at this point then you look up and over! pretty neat, never thought this thing would ever get finished. The view is amazing in either direction Lake Mead also reached a record low while I was there. the down side of trying to get a shadow shot is that the sun creates issues when shooting the other direction. and for the car nuts, SEMA!!! This place is HUGE recognize him? he was handing out free CD's, especially to those who were in line, but unable to get an autograph due to time constraints Ford also had team Force and you could see the pre-production Laguna Seca 2012 Mustang wicked paint jobs on display and drifting, where you could ride along (if you had connections or got there early enough, I got there early enough, totally AWESOME experience) A pro driver took you for a spin, literally. and a tribute car, painted. support our troops Fords display simply blew anything and everything else at this massive show away Recognize him, from TV maybe??? Hint: Overhaulin and this guy, recognize him? Anyway, you can see more on my facebook page, thanks for reading!

I almost forgot, Flash Pass for the Buffet!!! So next on my extended vacation of coasters and more was a trip to Freemont Street to ride their new zip line! So here we are at the zip line on Freemont Street. It's Monday, Nov 1 and not too much traffic, suppose they are all hung over, ha ha. This is the starting point. As you can see, this is not a very permanent structure. Basically you need a tall building with an elevator to the roof, scaffolding, and highway barriers to use as anchors to support the scaffolding. they built a bridge that you walked over to get to the scaffolding. One note, I elected to wait until night time for the atmosphere. noted. They open at 2pm, it's $15 until 6pm, then $20 until close which could be 11pm or 2am. They also sell shirts for $15. All day pass for $50, and they have a combo deal for a shirt and one ride for $35 after you strap up, hook up (this is vegas after all) you zip down about 800 feet from the outside to the inside under the canopy and past him and end up here where the dude in the red takes a photo of you which they offer for sale noted! you have to be at least 60lbs and can't be an ACE member to ride, too light and you get stuck, but not to worry, they will crawl out and get you so time to go do this thing at night the atmosphere is really MUCH better, I was willing to pay more for atmosphere more lights more characters more gene simmons look a likes more entertainment and more boobs told ya, more boobs so in I go to pay up and sign the standard paperwork saying i won't sue them if I fall off the office is near this catastrophe and near the lamp, rub the lamp up i went I got harnessed up, and flew away dangling my arms and yelling at the fools below who yelled back, ride lasted around a minute and flew under the canopy a few hundered feet which had one of their hourly shows playing which was awesome. Never been on a zip line, this was really neat, I'd do it again for sure, especially with a group. Night time is a must, daytime wouldn't be so fun. after your done, you can come down this way and look at some of the classic neon, or... go here. Zip line, do it.

Wow, been a VERY busy three day work week at work (yes, ha ha, off Veteran's day and as a bonus, Friday as well) after my return from Cali and Vegas, hope to finsih up tonight. Halloween video of the variety of costumes worn over Halloween weekend. Special Attention at the 2:05 mark - DOMO!!! And at the end....Smurfs, very entertaining answering the age old question of how do smurfs.... Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNegJRrn0xg BTW: This is the first video I've ever uploaded to youtube so it's presented some first time challenges for me. I've created hundreds of videos for the corporate environment with my job duties, but this was certainly different trying to work within their guidelines and getting rejected several times...Live and learn, so go easy on me, I had literally 6 hours of footage to sift through and I didn't sprend a lot of time tweaking it.

Announcement comming tomorrow on what is being built in the old Festhaus location, stayed tuned kids. -
hopefully they will focus on flat rides going forth as well, and I'm not talking removal of. Speaking of Mr. Six, here's a bit of coffee table discussion for you. Did you know prior to the creation of Mr. Six, that all of the previous ads designed for Six Flags/Premier occurred about 6 blocks from my current location? They also created ads for the NBA and other high profile clients of which I was able to preview many of the ads in their state of the art stadium seating multiple projection room. The firm, Ackerman Mcqueen was relieved of their duties shortly after the turn of the century. Afterwhich Mr. Six became popular. You can check out previous advertisements for six flags by using the search feature on their site typing in "six Flags" http://www.am.com
