The "Say Something Random" Thread

I don't even know what I use my personal YouTube channel for anymore. -
^This!! Ugh - just irritates the crap out of me. Irrationally so, I'll admit - but it does. I'll go along with this, and throw in groups of people who mill about like goats in front of a ride entrance while 1) waiting for one of their party to show up or 2) deciding whether they want to ride. Family or groups of friends gathering directly in front of the entrance and/or exit of a ride annoys me the most. It's worst when you have to push past them because they don't see or hear the flow of people trying to get through, or they do and don't react...

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

I thought last year there was a full moon out? I'm hearing (from the Holiwood Nights Facebook group) that there's going to be no moon during this year's event. Even with little light pollution from Thunderbird Plaza, I'm betting the spaghetti bowl might be just dark enough if the moon stays hidden. -

Wow, just wow!!! The coaster FLIES! Thanks for the reviews, photos, and video to those who've posted in the last previous pages. This does look to, respectively, crap all over Storm Chaser. I am REALLY looking forward to a first-time trip to Dollywood this year (after they announce LR is officially open, of course!). I'm also really glad I missed any drama in here, but it makes me laugh knowing Guy was behind it. You REALLY know how to push the right buttons on people in this website! #StormChasersBrokenLaunch -
Wait Time Tracking
Midgetman82 replied to fuerstjh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wouldn't be surprised if Six Flags enters the information in manually. Another good thing to also have would be "average wait times" and list weekends/weekdays. This would be especially useful for parks with no system for prior wait time info, or if there's no current data. -
Sunday of opening weekend had a pretty heavy downpour and a near-miss storm. Not so sure about that Saturday... Or why it would close rides today with only light rain. I've had a 6'6" friend ride with me on Lightning Run before no problem, and both coasters don't have max height requirements. It might not be the most comfortable for their legs, but I'm betting he'll fit fine. T3 has a 78" max height requirement, which he might have trouble on.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Much of The Legend felt the same to me yesterday, apart from the obvious smoothing out of the first drop and hill, the smoothing of the last curve, the much smoother stop, and the new double down. The double-down doesn't really produce airtime, but it's a step-up from what was there before. The tunnel near the end was a nice touch as well! Still a great and intense coaster, nonetheless! Spent the last 30 minutes the park was open re-riding it! I also got 21 total laps on Thunderbird. The last two were next to a woman who was at first looking around for her son (a teen with his friends), but made a quick decision to hop on an open seat beside me. She mentioned she had just got off work and had never been on Thunderbird before. Suffice it to say, she was in hysterics by the end of it but definitely loved it! It was a pretty cool experience seeing her react so positively to the ride! She stayed on for one more before hopping off and finding her son was on the same row, other train doing the same! -

Has the park been busy these past few weekends, or has it been light/fair level of crowds? I'm thinking of dropping by either Saturday or Sunday. -
Storm Chaser feels somewhat faster than it did last weekend. It's a small difference, but it doesn't "crawl" through the last element anymore. Front row even gets a pop of airtime on the last hop into the brake run! I'm not sure if I just don't remember how it rode last year, and I hate to admit it, but T3 did feel a little rougher than it did last year... I'm not sure how, but the jerking on it was more noticeable, even in the back seats (the safe seats). I take this back, one train rides smoother than the other.

Okay, after some thought, I think I've come to a full conclusion to my thoughts on Storm Chaser and the park from Sunday. My very first ride was in the second to last row of the train (can't remember which color), and I wasn't blow-away from it at first. I'm thinking it was because I'm so used to Lightning Run's intense airtime moments (especially riding backseat through the finale), so feeling something less than that had underwhelmed me a little initially. However, the more times I rode it, the more I fell in love with what it DOES do and where it is! From my perspective, it's the smoothest and most comfortable roller coaster (aside from maybe Thunder Run) in the park! The airtime isn't "rip your torso in half" intense, but there's plenty of times where you're up against the restraints. That coupled with the hang-time from the first inversion drop, and the true-to-it's-definition zero-g second inversion makes it a pretty well-rounded roller coaster. I had loads of fun re-riding it, and had even more fun in the front rows of the coaster than I did the back. It's a very solid roller coaster that's sure to please a larger variety of folks. I'd even put it in a sort of Cheetah Hunt "family thrill" category thanks to its 48" height requirement! The park really went out of their way to decorate and landscape the plaza area of Storm Chaser, as well as make some minor additions throughout the park. one of which included one of those basketball 3-pointer challenge games right under T3, which is neat to stop and see people make/miss shots as well as see the coaster make its rounds! And as a side-note, the new Angry Birds attraction in the 5D theater is easily the best they've ever had in there! Better than Rio in 2014 and Wizard of Oz last year. It's incredibly wacky, borderline thrilling at moments, and has lots of visuals that take advantage of the fact it's played in 3D and makes great use of the fans already installed. I REALLY recommend people to go see it whenever they're at the park! While the changes aren't huge (apart from the new coaster!), the park is again better this year and continues to get better and cleaner. The only big negative I saw for this year was not seeing fried chicken on the menu at Swampwater Jacks. That was really good chicken... Entrance to the plaza Storm Chaser plaza with fresh plants! A quirky, but wild show! Storm Chasing through the big overbank in the distance. I'm not sure if I just don't remember how it rode last year, and I hate to admit it, but T3 did feel a little rougher than it did last year... I'm not sure how, but the jerking on it was more noticeable, even in the back seats (the safe seats).

Even though they kind of have similar design styles (lots of airtime, weird banking, etc), when you're riding you can definitely tell them apart. Storm Chaser feels a lot snappier, with it's rapid roll changes and airtime pops. Lightning Run feels much more graceful in its force and roll applications, if you will. If you didn't know, you wouldn't guess based off of how they feel that they were designed by the same company. I spent the whole day at the park today. I can agree that the rolls on Storm Chaser are more sudden, but I also thought Storm Chaser's airtime moments were far more graceful than Lightning Run's. There's a VERY noticeable difference between both, with Storm Chaser being a much more comfortable ride than LR. Storm Chaser was an epic roller coaster! The front seat ended up being my favorite due to the airtime moments being more sudden than the back, plus the front seats had hang-time on the barrel roll first drop! It's also smooth to the point I would have NO problem marathoning! No concerns from me about the finale. This might have been the reason why: I'm sill sifting through photos I shot today. Saturday saw some pretty heavy rainfall, and today (Sunday) was a close call with bad storms (and still a lot of rainfall). Enough to close the park two hours early, even. But all the bad weather was in the second-half of the day. The first half... you couldn't ask for more gorgeous weather!
