(otsr) all you have to do is chop off your legs at the knee and you should have plenty of room. -

Your jus jealous man Hardly. I've ridden Stealth (PGA) it was ok, yeah the flying thing was cool and all. But then I rode Tatsu, and you CANNOT COMPARE the two! I actually don't miss Stealth after riding Tatsu- it was just awesome! Tatsu is everything this Vekoma ride wants to be but can't ever. So no, I am not jealous. If you are looking forward to this 'mediocre' IMO flying coaster, then good for you but you have not really ridden a good flying coaster until you've been on a B&M. I don't mean to bash this ride as I thought it was the greatest thing when I first rode Stealth and I'm sure this ride has great things about it in it's own Vekoma way but it's just not as fast, smooth, comfortable, and overall enjoyable as the B&M flyers. But if THIS was the ride my home park was getting I would not skip it when visiting. -

It is possible for it to end up at pga. Nothing is impossible. Stranger things have happened. -

Who needs a coaster for 2007

Is it too early to know what is going on for PGA for 2007? -

How do you even know the reason is because they are going to have problems? You don't know- nobody does! How could you be so negative? The only thing that really makes sense is for themeing and because of the harsh winter. For all you or any of us know, the there won't be any problems. To automatically just say to expect that to be a major problem seems like a bad assumption. -

Pga really needs one. Their latest newsletter says the new attraction for 2007 "is sure to make waves." -
How do you evacuate a drop tower?
Tmcdllr replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The mechanism that operates the release of the 'catch car' is only at the top so to be dropped the car must be at the top. If the cars stop part way up, they are simply hoisted back down, not dropped. Now if there was some serious unexpected "this could never happen in a million years" kind of catastrophic malfunction where the cars have stopped part or all the way up and could not be hoisted down or dropped by the ride itself, then there must be a manual release on the catch to drop the car. But in order to do that the mantenance/rescue people would have to somehow get up to that point. Even if the power was out, with the cars at the top or anywhere else on the tower for that matter, dropping them would still work. They would have to be manually released and would still stop because of the failsafe magnetic braking. I believe the idea also applies to the Intamin giant drop towers too. -
Scream and Medusa @ SFGAM have a first drop into a turn. Medusa at SFMW has a really great straight first drop, and is a very smooth ride. There are sections where you can see the old parking lot it was built on. Scream is a little rough but I enjoy that ride. They are great B&M's each with their own unique traits. Medusa at SFMW was the first to have a 'sea serpent' element- I do not know if there are any others that have this.

Another "if you felt this way" topic...
Tmcdllr replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Im one of those people that likes to know how everything works so it only adds to my enjoyment. Knowing how a coaster launches or brakes or how it performs some maneuvers is very interesting. Some of the technological advances on some of these machines is truly amazing and for me, having knowledge of that stuff only enhances the ride experience. -
Parks With Insane Rides

If you go on carnival rides you have a deathwish. -
That's what I thought (#1) but with the other items you have added it makes it even more plausible.

AMEN TO THAT BROTHER!!! It is not a stupid question and I have kind of wondered the same thing. That type of turn was specifically designed into the coaster to serve a specific purpose. I do not claim to know what that purpose is, I guess it could be just about anything. It might have something to do with how it 'feeds' the train to the lift, or maybe the ride was designed with a tight turn there and that type of u turn may be tighter than a flat turn, or that little dip is there because it gets the train to the lift quicker than a flat gradual turn, (I don't know for sure but that last one seems to make a lot of sense.) But coaster designers don't just throw one of those turns in there for no reason. The only way we'll find out for sure what the deal is with these u turns is to have a B&M engineer answer this question for us. I too have unfortunatley come across some "know it all 17 year olds that spew copious amounts of useless drivel from an over active, over emotional, hormone infested mind" in my day as well, and they very often are lacking factual information- if they even know what that is.

Ok this is a little late. I've been at work and all of a sudden there are 10 more pages in here. Anyway... I have a question about the LSMs. If I understand how they work right, would it be safe to say that when they are moving the train up the lift they are actually pulling AND pushing it up as opposed to a chain that just pulls it up? In other words the LSM in front of the train attracts or 'pulls' it, and as the train passes over it, that LSM then repels or 'pushes' it. -

My guess is the lift will have rollback things on it so that it is possible for a stop, but it may not, anyone else know? I have the answer to this. You don't need antirollbacks because the LSM's act as brakes. "Each has its advantages and disadvantages,” explains Kernacs. “The LSM coaster is a more complex design and requires more sensitive sensors, but it produces twice the force as the LIM for the same amount of energy, and you don’t need brakes because the LSM system acts as the brakes. " I got that from an article in funworld magazine in an interview with Intamin. Article link: http://www.funworldmagazine.com/2006/aug/features/coaster_connoisseurs/coasterconn.html But after the brakes slow it too a halt, you still need something to hold it there, unless the LSMs can do that as well, and what happens if the LSMs fail, or the power goes out? I agree with that, there should be something to mechanically hold the train in case the LSM's fail, but I don't know for sure if they can do that. Does anybody else know? -

whats up Paramount?
Tmcdllr replied to stricklandCC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ok my turn. As my home park I love it no matter what. But having said that.. They have lost some great coasters, 2 of my favs, and what was put in to 'replace' them just doesn't cut it for me anyway. I will still get my season pass and go there as much as I can, the coasters they still have provide me with a good time and make the trip worth it. This season they are having a Halloween thing and the park is open weekends until November- that's the latest I can ever remember it closing for the season. Does PGA have room for a new coaster? Yes. There is space where Whizzer used to be and since the Pictorium isn't used anymore, why not get rid of it and open up that area too? Is that not enough room for a coaster? Whether or not Cedar Fair decides to give us one who knows. I'm hoping they will. If not, that's ok, it won't keep me from going but I can't say I wouldn't be dissappointed.
