  1. ^Sorry maybe I wasnt clear. First it was flight deck. Then it was briefly changed to Afterburn. Once CF realized they made a mistake they changed it back to flight deck, unfortunately. By the way, why did they name the one at Carowinds Top Gun: the jet coaster and not just Top Gun?
  2. Hey CF heres a good name... TOP GUN!
  3. ^Yes I agree, lets all just be happy about that and the positive direction this is going in and look forward to the days we can experience a smoother, more enjoyable and more reliable great coaster.
  4. "The Top Gun coasters at Carrowinds and CGA will now be know as Twisty-Turny-Flippy-Thingys"...that name is just as good as Flight Deck. Yeah, really terrible name choice. I guess it could have been much worse which also could have somehow been better than this. Briefly on the CGA website it was first listed as flight deck (so worthless I wont even bother to capitalize it anymore), then it was changed to Afterburn...much better. Aparently it was a "mistake" on their part and now its back to fd. Too bad, they were so close. Did anyone notice if that had also happened on the Carrowinds site? Somebody is trying to tell them how bad fd really is.
  5. Who cares what the trains look like or even if they are the wrong color. If thats what had to be done to improve the ride and cut down on maintenance and downtime then good. (maybe not the color). When I am riding it the last thing I would be concearned about is how it looks, I am more interested in how it feels and I think the park might see it that way too.
  6. Maybe they should call it Frank. That way they could turn the pizza place near the ride entrance into a hot dog stand.
  7. To help out CF here are some possible names for the new wood coaster: Wood-y, The Splinter, Termite Heaven, Sticky Sap Hurler, Pressure Treated Lumber Yard of Doom, The Rusty Nail, Wood Dock, Wheels on Wood, Twister 2 x 4, and finally, Turn of the Century. Not very good but that should be on par with the brilliant minds that came up with Flight Deck.
  8. I have only started going on X within the last 4 years and it seemed pretty rough to me. Was it like that during its first year? Eventhough it was painfull it was still an awesome ride. With the new trains hopefully smoothing it out I can only imagine how much better the ride will be. I cant wait for my next trip down there to experience how truly great this coaster is and what is was meant to be.
  9. Someone mentioned they were just going to call it "Frank," might as well. I dont know about you guys but I will not ride anything called "Frank."
  10. Too bad, "Afterburn" was a pretty decent name. They could combine the two..."Afterdeck" or "Flightburn."
  11. I like how the article describes the original paint scheme as "clownish." But I can't wait for my next trip down there to try them out.
  12. Your right. I apologize. I took it too seriously. I do have fun on here and I forgot that for a second. Its my home park and means a lot to me so I worry about its future especially with whats going on with the 49ers. By the way, I like blue panties.
  13. Since when is it ok to post misleading titles? In the past when this has happened the person got jumped on all over for it why is this any different? The title implies the demise of the coaster when in fact that is totally not true it is simply a name change. Yes, that IS misleading and I dont understand why that is ok now. What about the integrity of the site? You might as well change all of the titles so nobody knows what they are clicking on. I understand about getting on somebody about a misleading title which is how it should be, but to allow this just seems wrong...in my opinion.
  14. Good. Thats much better. Thank you CF.
  15. Good. Thats much better. Thank you CF.
  16. What is a Galaxi coaster? Thats a new one to me.
  17. It only made news because people had to be "rescued." Even if this is standard operating procedure for this situation, nothing really happened and it is certainly not news worthy. E-stops occur all the time everywhere as a normal operating procedure...thats why there is a button for it. Most of the time it is a simple malfunction or just somebody being stupid. Why isnt the news then flooded with all these stops? Again, nothing really happened and nobody got hurt. Its like the news person or channel was bored and looking for something to do. I am sure there were many other important things to report on besides this...just plain lame.
  18. Went by the sign on 101, nothing changed on it yet, still has the Paramount thing on the top and is still half burned out. The only thing new on it is the advertisement for the "CGA" website.
  19. Boomerangs, Invertigos, and GIBs all have completely different systems for catching the train with the GIBs being the most complicated. While no one knows exactly why it seems the GIBs seem to have the most downtime, the long loading times dont help either. The train design is confusing for passengers loading and add to that checking to make sure all seatbelts are secure before lowering lapbars doest speed things along at all. Maybe these had a lot of problems at first but it seems like people just assume they are all like that because they heard about one or two that had problems in the past. Personally, I have ridden Vu at MM many times and never had or saw it have a downtime.
  20. ^Chris...ever been stuck on the 2nd tower?
  21. It is totally amazing. Fascinating to watch. Interesting how the Invertigos use chains and these use cables. I have always wondered what the lift motors hp rating is. Would also like to know exactly how the catch car grabs the train, I would guess it grabs one of the brake swords but how exactly? Sounds like maybe there is a hydraulic pump operating some kind of clamping device? Would really like to know.
  22. ^^That totally makes sense as a secondary or backup to the prox switches. But if it was confirmed that the timers were shutting it down because the train was consistently late and it wasnt because of a mechanical issue on the train, then couldnt the timers be adjusted to allow for that or is it locked in forever and cannot be changed? Sounds like a simple solution but something is missing here and I would think they would have tried that. Not an expert but doesnt seem too complicated. I did want to say glad a removed Vu has found a home. I really like these, wish there were more, and would like to see 300ft. towers.
  23. That makes a lot more sense than timers being the major cause of downtime. The train would have to run exactly the same speed every single cycle, which is totally impossible, for the timers to work. With proximity switches, its the position of things, not the speed or timing that matters which allows for the variance in speed the train might have each cycle. Its because of this that I highly doubt they would have designed timers instead of prox switches into it. That being said, the root of the problems could very easily be the way the electrical system was designed as was mentioned.
  24. Not enough room to move to candlestick, bad area anyway. Ever been there? The park is in a better place where it is now. I like the idea, if the stadium has to be built, of running coasters around or over it. I think that would be unique in that I dont believe its been done before. Also, if CF really wanted to, they could expand into the main lot. If they want it bad enough they would find a way to do it. They could always add their own parking structure.
  25. You know, to the north in Fremont there is plenty of LANDFILL space they could build their little stadium on. They would be at home.
