  1. That's true. They could also build a large coaster that goes half over the small lake or even a Farenheit clone with a taller drop in the spot where the woodie is supposed to go, or actually, anywhere else. If they got rid of Whitewater Falls that would free up more room. They don't really need that ride anyway. Just looked at a satellite photo and there is a lot of land between WWF and the Pictorium- where Whizzer once stood, get rid of the Pictorium and there's even more. And I see what you are talking about, there's a good chunk of space that Rip Roaring Rapids goes around.
  2. A giant coaster that went all around the park and intertwined with other coasters would be sweet and they could do it! Or even an Intamin impulse coaster (Vertical Velocity) should easily fit in Tidal Wave's old spot but hmmm, where would the station go? Or even one over/around Logger's Run or over/thru Demon and Grizzly. See, lot's of room, they just need to DO IT!
  3. Right, that's what I meant, Invertigo is not going anywhere. If/when they want to FINALLY add a new coaster they will find a way to fit it in, parks do it all the time. Even if it was put in another location although that would not make sense if there is room where this woodie is 'supposed' to go. Btw, any further news about CF suing the 49ers for "not disclosing information"? And what is new for 2010? Even if it's a used coaster it's better than no coaster but CGA deserves more. 10 years is WAY too long.
  4. By now they should have removed all the parts from Invertigo that were to be sent for testing and not dismantling anything else. If the new woodie falls through, I hope another coaster would be put in, they REALLY need one. An Intamin Mega Lite would be awesome!
  5. Where is the catch car, did they remove it? And what is going on with the brakes? Thanks for the pics, it looks eerie with the station empty like that.
  6. So how does it get up the towers? Catch car, LIMs? Is it raised up one tower then dropped or is it launched and how?
  7. Post of the year! I think that pretty much sums up Psyclone.
  8. I wish there was a way to speed up the investigation, this is very interesting. This and the Invertigo incident. I am dying to know what happened with both of these. Any preliminary reports or anything?
  9. That makes more sense. As far as the cable breaking, I think it's possible the cable may have broken off the catch car which would have left the cable or debris possibly on the track along with the catch car. Would like to see pics of what is going on now as well as this bent brake fin that was mentioned. It is reasonable to assume the bent brake fin, if it was at the end toward the station, could have been what finally brought the train to a sudden stop.
  10. With the cable entering the car it could have very easily got caught or wrapped around the kid's seat causing the seat to move. We already know he had injuries on his legs from the cable so it's quite possible the cable damaged the seat too.
  11. ^I hadn't thought of that and it would explain a lot, the seat moving, the train suddenly stopping. Wow if that is the case, if the cable did enter the car, then those people are VERY LUCKY that what did happen was all that happened. That cable could have very easily removed a limb!
  12. I stand corrected and have to say that is really eerie. It looks like it was just the kids seat but why? Why would only his seat move and not the others? If you watch just that part of the video over and over you can just barely see the whole train jolt the moment his seat gets moved. Wow, that is scary.
  13. I still don't think anything happened to the seat because it looks like the train runs over something on that side which causes the kid to be jolted in his seat which makes it APPEAR the entire seat moves. Yes the headrest moves a little, I would expect that, but not the whole seat. If the train runs over something stuff is gonna move and make it look worse than it is. Can't believe no one has said this, it really looks like it runs over something. What else would make it jump?
  14. But we don't deserve to know anything, really. If there was no video, no news report, there STILL would have been an investigation and then what... all goes on as normal. While I will say I feel bad for the boy and his father and hope they will be o.k., I will also say that it would not surprise me in the least if they filed a suit.
  15. The bent brake fin is interesting. Cable could have snapped hitting and bending that fin because during the launch after the train passes that block the fins raise back up, (all the other stuff happened), then as the train was slowly rolling back to the station hit the bent brake fin which stopped it suddenly. That would at least explain the sudden stop. As far as the seat moving I see that only as a result of the sudden stop and it 'giving' a little, not being broken, but I wasn't there. And the smoke people are eluding to could be a result of the cable snapping and laying across the track and as the train came back either it got caught with the wheels or was dragged under the train and the friction being generated from the dragging caused the smoke. The point during the rollback while the train is still going pretty fast and where you start to see smoke it looks like the train hit something, like I said could have been cable debris, and it looks like that it APPEARS the seats move but it is only the train jumping because it hits or runs over something. My guess would be the train ran over something on the side the kid was sitting on. Too bad the video quality wasn't better because as the train is coming back down the top hat you can see the launch track on there is a dark area on it which, if you watch closely, is right about the area the train appears to jump and you see the smoke.
  16. Maybe we don't hear about it because they use many cables and if one breaks the others will compensate, plus all the redundant safety sytems and if one broke flying pieces of metal would be contained in the hoistway and not enter the car. Good find.
  17. As far as inspecting the cable, I believe the only way to 'see inside' of it to check the integrity would be to x-ray it which would probably be costly and maybe not practical as you would have to remove it from the ride to x-ray the whole thing. If they were going to do that, they might as well just replace it. I don't know, I guess it's just a visual thing and replacing it per Intamin guide lines. When was the last time it was replaced? Could they have been using it longer than recommended? Defective?
  18. I would expect a cable snap on TTD or KK before this one. Although, any cable on any ride could snap given the right circumstances. Obviously it didn't snap for no reason and I would imagine it is inspected daily. Could something have been missed? Cables usually don't break all at once. Strand by strand they break and get weaker until the whole thing fails. But with a high speed ride that could happen very quickly during the course of a day of operation.
  19. Ok, good info. I will check out the video again now that I know what to look for. I still say that kid looks really goofy.
  20. Seat tilted, seat breaking? How exactly did a seat break and which one? I saw the video and saw no evidence of a seat breaking. I find that hard to believe. Where is the evidence? Is it in the video because I didn't see it. I saw the ride accelerate, cable debris flying, the train turned and started to go up the top hat but didn't make it so it rolled back, (nothing with the seats yet), then it was slowed by the brakes and suddenly stopped or bumped into something. Then you see the two people, still restrained in the not-broken seats starting to freak out a little. Seats tilting-broken?---Where?
  21. Wow, that's creepy! Glad nobody was hurt and I mean no disrespect to anyone but that is seriously one goofy looking kid!
  22. It is at the bottom of the lift so it's probably at the end of the course. Near the end of the video you see the rafts start to go up the lift then it stops.
