Biggest Disappointment of 2010?
deathbydinn replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The new Six Flags management. - Honestly, I loved what Shapiro was doing. I thought he was really taking the parks in the right direction...and then the new guys came in. It seems like all the things Shapiro was beginning to do like longer park hours and seasons and adding the new franchises to the park has just been undone. While it doesn't seem to bother the knowledgeable enthusiast as much, the uniformed guests, the ones they should be trying to keep happy are obviously not too happy about the changes. (Hell, just look at the parks Facebooks...) Six Flags Great America's Fright Fest. - Yes this was the first year going but I had seen lots of pictures/videos/ptrs of it and I still just left feeling somewhat left down. While the ride rethemes were great, (TT2..amazing!!) and the shows I saw were awesome as well, I really get into haunts and haunted houses and such and it just seemed so lackluster compared to other events I've been to. The theming was okay, could be a lot better but not terrible and I remember seeing all of five scare-actors (outside of the houses). Honestly, one actor is not enough to cover a whole section of the park. I get that they didn't bring back JPM and all, but c'mon, is that really the best they could do? -

^ Considering the whole "more coasters than any other park" and "Americas roller coaster" that the park is trying to have, I highly doubt they'll be taking any coaster out unless they replace it with more than one coaster. -
Does anyone know what song is used for this park on the coaster footage dvd?

The Bag-Of-Crap Giveaway Thread!

Perhaps something at Universals Studios (FL or CA). Time could be referring to the Back to the Future ride and expired referring to the fact that the ride is now gone. -

NU is one of those parks I hadn't really heard a lot about, but when I did hear about it I only heard good things. And now after going there, I realize why. I really have a lot of good things to say about the park and even the few bad things weren't really bad, just kinda annoying. This was my first time visiting the park and for sure won't be my last. If your anywhere near the park at anytime, I *highly* suggest you check it out, it really is a great park with a great selection of rides. The park was also hosting a small Halloween event called Blackout. It consisted of some activities for little kids like tattoos and other crafts, a dance floor with a DJ, and then at 8 all the ride lights were turned off and multi-colored lights and fog filled some parts of the park. Here are my reviews. Coasters- Spongebob Rock Bottom Plunge -4- Spongebob was my first euro-fighter and my first beyond vertical drop. The drop was honestly not as good as I was hoping it would be. It was still fun, but didn't provide all of what I was hoping it would. The ride was for the most part, smooth with only light headbanging on the second and third inversions. Surprisingly, I think the part I enjoyed the most was the helix at the end. It had good forces and I think it provided a better sense of speed than the rest of the ride. And even thought it's meant to be the parks big thrill coaster, I saw very young kids and older adults enjoying it. I even got my mom (who doesn't like steep drops) on it somehow, and she loved it and ended up riding three times! SB's operations were odd though. Now since this was my first EF, I have no idea if this is normal for them or not. Basically they would load one car, send it to the lift and then load the other before sending the first around the course. There could be a mechanical reason for this, but other than that I can't really find any good reason to it. I don't see how it could possibly reduce maintenance and if anything, it lowered the capacity. So if anyone knows why they do this, please fill me in as I would love to know. Pepsi Orange Streak -3- Orange Streak was much better than I thought it would be. It did give some nice forces and I loved how it snaked through out the whole park and into the mountain the flume resided in. It ended up being my second favorite coaster there (after SB) which I did not expect at all. The combination of a long train and small hills made the ride strange in the sense that in the front, it gained speed as it went up hill and seemed to lose speed while going down hill. Avatar Air Bender -1- Enjoyable but not worth the neck chopping. Actually having other people on it probably would have helped though. Fairly Odd Coaster -1- A bit shaky but a fun and unique ride to me, since it was my first spinning coaster that wasn't a wild mouse. Not too amazing overall, but it was good enough that I am looking forward to trying some of Gerstlauer's other spinning coasters. Flats/Other rides- Log Chute -3- Holy. Crap. I had heard this flume was great but I was still just blown away by it. Just the flume itself was good but the theming is so much better than what you normally get in full size or major theme parks. It was great to turn a corner just to have a huge blue ox spray water in your face. Sure it may be a bit uncomfortable walking around in damp clothes, but I thought it was worth it and ended up riding three times. Tak Attack -1- TA was just weird. It reminded me of an oversize rollo-plane. Great views of the park from it, but I found going sideways and being pushed onto the restraints to be hurt a bit and be quite uncomfortable. Danny Phantom -1- My first real falling star. It was very fun, but we sat in the middle so it didn't have amazing forces. I'll have to make sure to sit at the end on my next one. Brain Surge -1- BS was a very fun ride, and I love that because you can control it, it can be a nice gentle kids ride, a slightly more thrilling family wall, or an off the wall insane thrill ride. I think the control feature could use some more work as it was a bit of a challenge to finish the rotation a few times. Ghost Blasters -2- The theming was good, but the gun system just did not seem to work as both times we rode we just could not seem to hit the targets and set things off, and by looking at other scores, it wasn't just us who had this problem. Splat-O-Sphere -1- Very fun! As all other Moser drop towers I've been it provided a great amount of air. Jimmy Neutrons Atomic Collider -1- A very unique and rare ride, but I think it looks better than it rides. Really more of a family ride than a thrill ride. Other than those I just did the ferris wheel, which doesn't need a review, so onto the pics! First ride of the day! A lot of the rides had fantastic signs It gets pretty close to the ceiling. The horseshoe goes right up next to the path and ferris wheel. As you can see here. FOC was my first Gerstlauer spinning coaster. It was fun, but a bit bumpy and didn't spin a lot. (Which I was hoping it would) It definitely was strange going over a hill sideways. A bit of a let down.. This "ghost" looks more like a bald guy in a costume A small pre-show in the queue, but a combination of low volume and sound from other rides made it very hard to hear. Small practice area right before entering the ride. POS, on the other hand, greatly exceeded my expectations. Such an odd, yet fun ride. Speaking of odd... Just so screwed up. For a dinosaur, Reptars pretty damn cute. We didn't get to try the backwards swing. We were never by it when it was open. Brainsurge was great fun. I hope to see it installed in more major parks because as I said before, it can be a ride for everyone. It looks and rides great! Oh, there was this thing to...that I failed to get any good pictures of These character wraps were on some of the roof supports As shown here! I failed at getting good pictures of the flume, so this shot of the nice queue will have to suffice. Eh, looks better than it rides. And now, some pictures of the mini golf and the great views it provided! The course starts by the ball going up a lift, and then down one of three ramps. The ferris wheel just peeks over the wall..lets go for a closer look. Splat-O-Sphere was taller than I expected it to be. Still, in the world of drop towers it's smaller, but packs a nice punch. the extent of the days breakdowns. One ride for five minutes, and a computer. Pretty good if you ask me! And for if you're a person who likes baseball, heres this. Thanks for reading!

^^ Jordan won the one about the Starspeeder, but I think he was talking about this one with 15 questions. Or were the two combined and only had one winner for the two? -

Strange. I've never heard any question if a Wild Mouse is a coaster or not before. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Just something I noticed, in the IAAPA video that was recently posted the person Robb interviewed from Maurer said that they were in discussions for something in America that they can't talk about until April and since Hershey is announcing it next spring..perhaps they're working with Maurer on something? -

Did Summers/Dinn make ANY good coasters?
deathbydinn replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode it last year and this year, and while it was a better ride in the front row this year thanks to some retracking, there was a noticeable difference between even the first and second row. It wasn't horrible, but it was enough for me to not want to go back any further. Perhaps if the park owner would ride it more than two times, he would realize that the ride needs help. And I'm not even kidding about that, he said in a news interview about the 2010 addition that he's ridden Hades all of two times.
