  1. Why are we talking about a coaster that hasn't been announced or built when it's still at least 8 months away?
  2. Reminds me of my Whore on the Shore day I had back in May, although I started to the north and finished at Morey's. 9 parks, 22 credits, 10 hours!
  3. I'll say it. I thought the place was a dump. From the 100,000 pieces of gum on the lift hill rail of Le Monstre, to the overgrown weeds in the Cobra Flash Pass queue, to the disgusting bathrooms. Not to mention they easily had the slowest operators I've ever seen. However, they did have good food and beverage (the crepe was AMAZING and I got a Jack and Coke at a theme park), and I agree with others in saying the Batman clone was the best I have ridden to date. Goliath was also very, very good. Other than that, there wasn't much I enjoyed about the park itself. I still had a great time regardless (thanks to the wonderful people of TPR!), and the culture shock was actually kinda educational, but it's not a park I'll be clamoring to return to any time soon. I definitely want to go back and explore Montreal, though.
  4. ^Praying isn't enough. You should sacrifice a family pet or homeless person.
  5. This thread is the gift that keeps on giving.
  6. 19/20 on the new USA/Canada coasters. Missed the one about the Seven Dwarfs Coaster and which Disney park it was going to, mainly because I don't follow Disney parks at all.
  7. ^Thank you! Agreed. I even remember stuff just by going back and looking at the pictures I took. It's a good problem to have when you did SO much during a short period of time that it's tough to recall everything at once.
  8. I didn't think this ride was delayed for that long, they finished building it in January this year. And I'm still referring to it as Mountain Flyer, because that's an awesome name.
  9. Is everybody ready for more? Yes? OK! After our wildly successful day at Coney Island, it was actually time to start the official portion of the TPR Northeast USA Trip! Our first stop on the official trip was Quassy Amusement Park, somewhere in the middle of God's Country, Connecticut. As many of you already know, Quassy is home to a brand new Gravity Group family woodie, named Wooden Warrior. I want to say that I already kind of expected this ride to be at least moderately fun, simply because it's TGG and they always make good rides. However, I was completely and utterly blown away by this ride. Every single hill has airtime across the entire train, the turns have good laterals, the tunnel adds a lot to the turn around, and the Timberliners are like riding in an office chair! It was good enough to almost crack my top 15 wooden (out of over 80 ridden). I'm foaming at the mouth to see these trains on Voyage, but we'll have to wait and see if Holiday World can get the track up to par so those trains can show their stuff properly. As for the rest of Quassy, it was a charming little park that seems to be heading in the right direction now that it has a "signature" coaster. There was a nice little collection of flats, a beautiful setting on a lake, and an all-around friendly staff (they seriously rolled out the red carpet for us and were REALLY excited to have us there, it was rather humbling I thought). And their kiddie coaster had airtime. After a few hours at Quassy, we moved on to Lake Compounce! Lake Compounce has been on my "to do" list for quite some time now, just basically for one reason. Boulder Dash. Boulder Dash is one of those coasters that I've never heard anything negative about. With Voyage, it's too rough. With El Toro, it's too short and only has a few good airtime hills. With *insert GCI here*, they're all the same. I've never heard anything negative about Boulder Dash except that it's so hard to get to. And I gotta say, it definitely lived up to its hype and more. Like Wooden Warrior, there wasn't a dull seat on the train, airtime EVERYWHERE, the most insane element on a wooden coaster (other than 90 degree banked turns), the triple-up at the end, and night rides were complete roller coaster nirvana. I can't describe how badly my thighs hurt after ERT, simply from the airtime! It came in at #2 in my rankings, ahead of El Toro and behind Voyage. Lake Compounce itself was a very nice park, as well. They had a good mixture of big flats, family rides, water rides, and a huge Skycoaster! The staff here was also very friendly, and they provided free Killian's at the welcome dinner! My only "pseudo" complaint was that Boulder Dash was only running one train, but as I understood it, it was because of maintenance, so there wasn't much that could be done. Either way, it didn't matter, I ended up riding Boulder Dash 13 times, so I can't really complain. All in all, great first day, and AWESOME night ERT. Picture time! As usual, since I can't upload all my pictures, the full album can be found here. First stop of the trip, Quassy! First official coaster of the trip! They forgot to add on here that a butt is not required to ride Wooden Warrior, since it will never be in the seat anyway. Crappy picture of the station. You get the point. Robb filming, everyone else looking at him. A look at the tunnel, it's amazing what putting a wooden box around a section of track does for the ride experience. The airtime is so abundant that all you see is a blur. See? Happy faces all around. And it wouldn't be a TPR trip without a little credit whoring! I once had an ex-girlfriend call me the Little Dipper. Gary is enjoying this Little Dipper, maybe he'll love me the way my ex never could. Even the airtime on the kiddie coaster was blurry. Has the Wooden Warrior come to life? This triple-up was awesome, even if it didn't compare to the one on Boulder Dash. There was a lot more terrain on this coaster than I was expecting. Yep, 35 feet tall. The back seat on this drop was a tad terrifying. Front row, left seat. Time to run a train. I mean, ride the train. Here's a nice overview of Wooden Warrior. Is "take the tunnel" still funny? Mammoth first drop. Allow me to take a moment to say how much I love Gravity Group. I love Gravity Group. Thank you. Moving on. More blurry airtime. Canadian Nick and Shawn showing proper form for riding Wooden Warrior, which involves both hands being placed directly overhead for the duration. Thanks to Nick and Shawn, all these people have learned how to properly ride an awesome wooden coaster. Thanks Nick and Shawn! One of the funniest moments of my entire life. True story. Moving on to Lake Compounce! I think every trip report I've seen so far has this picture. But none of them were taken by me, so here ya go. For those of you not familiar with this particular S&S drop tower's history, it used to be at Alabama Adventure before it was repossessed by S&S. Lake Compounce bought it, and now it resides here. True story. Slightly more ferocious looking than Garfield. This was my only picture of Wildcat. It hurt. True story. I loved the theme for this repossessed S&S tower. As another little connection to Alabama Adventure, it has the only other boomerang in the world named "Zoomerang." True story. Forwards or backwards? The world may never know. Now for the 3rd and final connection to Alabama Adventure, it has the only CCI on the planet that I like more than Rampage, which is also on the side of a hill. It's so fast that the train looks like this the entire time. True story. The lack of banking at the bottom of the first drop was as I like to say, "nucking futs." Where are they climbing to? The Screamin' Swing decided to photo bomb me. As I said before, the amount of airtime on this ride (especially on the return run) is absurd. Just look at all those hills. This was GCI's handy work, and it was marvelous. In case you forgot which park we were at. Another terrifically themed S&S ride. These are always fun. Canadian Nick and kcsteve got to ride the Skycoaster with Skycoastin Steve. Even though they aren't, I'm just going to call them my fanboys. You usually don't get to ride this without a kid, but we're awesome, so they let us. We could only load three seats at a time, and we got exactly one lap, but it was a credit! I do want to say that the young lady running this ride was VERY friendly, and we appreciated her staying after hours to help us whore.............credits, that is. Neil had a great time whoring, that was sort of a theme for the trip. Psychedelic tunnel leading to and from the park. Next time I come back, I'm taking acid before I walk through here. True story.
  10. ^I think 305's drop to break time is about 45 seconds at most.
  11. Lifetime season passes to any park chain would easily be the worst business decision they could ever possibly make. And that's all I have to say about that.
  12. What happens when you put two boomerangs right next to each other? Will the world end? I believe that will be the true cause if the world ends next year.
  13. ^I've heard that Terror Island will be retired, as well, but Halloween attractions come and go on a regular basis, anyway.
  14. I agree, it was a pretty silly ride, but I like silly things.
  15. ^Dive machines do the same thing with a vertical drop, so it's not exactly "unique." The fact that it has an entire layout as opposed to drop, inversion, turn, brake, drop, inversion, splash, brake is different, but floorless seats 200 feet off the ground are nothing new.
  16. For the people that are surprised about the $5 charge to get in, have you not heard of the one at Kings Island that was just installed this year and has the exact same price??
  17. ^I've had better hot dogs myself, but it's more about saying that I did it. Thanks for the comments, guys!
  18. ^You're 12, I'm sure by the time you leave this world you'll have a chance to go to Canada.
  19. I think the upcharge for Dinosaurs Alive has more to do with the company that builds them rather than Kings Island or Cedar Point deciding to charge. By contract, they have to give 50% of their sales to the company that built the attractions, and I'm sure there's some stipulation in there that they are required to charge people money. The fact that it will limit over-crowding is just a nice bonus.
  20. ^I'll keep Verbolten out of the "big three" conversation for now until we find out all the specifics. If it looks like it'll be a spectacular ride experience, then I'll go ahead and call it the "big four."
  21. Now that the Leviathan excitement has died down a bit, I can continue! After our busy day in New York City, we got back on the bus and went right back into the city (albeit Brooklyn). That's right, we braved the rough streets of Brooklyn for a day at the classic Coney Island and to grab a ride on Cyclone! Jen and I rode in the 2nd to last row, so we were still off the wheels, but that thing was ROUGH! For us, it was more of a getting thrown around rough than a painful rough, but I couldn't stop laughing for most of the ride because it was just ridiculous. The extra padding in the seats and on the lapbar were much needed, even if the two of us barely fit in the seat next to each other because of it. And for the record, the airtime in the back of that train on the first drop is INSANE. The rest of the parks at Coney Island were also a ton of fun. We rode the famous Deno's Wonder Wheel, which was all kinds of screwy, messed up fun. We also whored it up on the kiddie credit right below the Wonder Wheel. At some point we rode Deno's Spookarama (hilarious) before heading to the brand new Scream Zone. Scream Zone is the new park built by Zamperla and features one of their launched motocoasters and the old Volare flying coaster from Elitch Gardens. To be short and sweet, Steeplechase (motocoaster) was actually a lot of fun, but Soarin' Eagle (Volare) was painful. After we finished Scream Zone, we headed to Nathan's to get one of their famous hot dogs. Mine had chili and cheese and was delicious, and the Killian's I had to wash it down was even better! Nathan's has always kind of been a bucket list eatery for me (along with the rest of Coney Island being on my bucket list), so it was awesome to be able to grab a dog and a beer from there. The rest of our day was spent at Luna Park, which is also run by Zamperla and features a variety of their ride selections, most of them being tons of fun! We did the Tickler (spinning coaster, ouch), Circus Coaster (kiddie, fun!), the mini drop tower (awesome), Air Race (flipping plane ride, maybe the best flat ever), the log flume (carny log flumes FTW), Brooklyn Flyer (Star Flyer, cool experience and my first), and the Disk-O (nausea) before leaving to catch the bus and head back to the hotel. All in all, Coney Island was one of the best days of the entire trip. I was a bit worried about a lot of the things I've heard about the area in the recent past, but Zamperla has really done a fantastic job making it a place that people will want to go to have fun during the summer. The parks themselves were surprisingly clean, they handled the crowds well, and they still had a lot of that "old beach park" charm, even though so much of it is new. I had always thought that Coney Island would sort of be a "one and done" destination for me, but I would definitely go back for another day if I had the chance. Now for the pictures (and one video), full album once again can be found here on facebook! On our way through Brooklyn, we passed Dr. Poon's office. I was disappointed to learn 1. that he wasn't a gynecologist and 2. that he didn't have a partner named Dr. Tang. This was about the time that my internal "Dork Alarm" was on full blare. In case you're on TPR and you DIDN'T know what this ride was called, in which case Robb will be banning you shortly. As you can see, the weather was lovely for us. A look down the boardwalk. No prostitutes or gang bangers in sight! We'll be eating your wieners later. I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign. Lift hill. Pretty standard. Jen gets her 200th credit! Yay! David, Spears, Neil, and Kim are ready to be thrown around like a bag of rocks in a dryer! Honestly, why put your hands up on the lift hill? Silly. Time to head over to the Wheel of Wonder, not to be confused with the Wheel of Fortune. It's not quite open yet, so we have more important issues to take care of. This swooping first drop combined the speed of King Daka with the forces of Intimidator 305. You can't tell, but these TPR members are barely holding onto consciousness from the blackout on the first drop. Ok now it's open, let's go swing a bit. Never a single accident in 89 years, apparently Intamin cables aren't involved in the operation of this ride. I'm not entirely sure how clean that water could have been, so we avoided it. Didn't feel like stepping on a dead body or something out there. This is Luna Park and all of its crazy Zamperla-ness. The Star Flyer. Neil pretty much freaked the hell out on the Wonder Wheel. I thought the ride was a bit freaky at first, but plenty of fun. Neil is just a sissy. And if you were sitting there thinking, "Gee, that's a funny looking picture, I bet a video of Neil freaking out would be even funnier," well then I have exactly what you want! In case you were wondering what the inside of the wheel looked like. Is this Wonder Wheel porn? That's kinda spooky, we must be at...... Spookarama! I have to say, of the three haunted dark rides we did on this trip (Coney, Canobie, Knoebels), this one probably got more scares than the rest. Glamour shot of the wheel. This is the emo pose, minus the scars on the forearm. Masterpiece of modern engineering, kinda like my body. This drop tower was terrifying. That is all. They should turn that into an amusement ride of some kind. Maybe a Windseeker? Scream Zone time. Most of the screams heard from this sign were the screams of pain from...... This ride. I will say that I thought the layout was pretty cool, but the trains were horribly uncomfortable. Granted, I am a giant, so it comes with the territory, but this ride just jacked up my back and legs. I need to be shorter. This ride was much better than the Volare. I spy TPR members, I knew that smell was coming from somewhere! Things go well, I might be showing her my oh face. Ok, most places that advertise themselves as "world famous" rarely ever are. But in this case, they actually ARE world famous. Chili cheese dog and a beer, doesn't get better than that. Check that one off the bucket list! The entrance to Luna Park was pretty, especially considering you're coming in from Brooklyn. No word on whether or not this ride was intended to be French. Thrusday. This was actually a fun kiddie credit. Not even Michael Jackson had this much fun riding kiddies. Ice Bat, and a photo bomb. Thanks David. I'm going to go ahead and call this the greatest flat ride ever. It spins while the planes rotate 360 degrees vertically. Do any more of these exist anywhere else? If so, I must ride them at once. I guess this log flume used to be somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. After learning this, I was disappointed to find out the splashdown wasn't coffee. Time to ride my first Star Flyer! I did like it, still wasn't terribly thrilling, although it had more force than Windseeker did. A few more shots of Cyclone before we leave. Everybody seems to be enjoying themselves. And for , I hope they are! Is that whole "through the trees" fad still going?
