Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
Skycoastin Steve replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because wooden trationalists are fanatical and insane? Why can't some people just go on roller coasters, and enjoy them, and not get so bent out of shape over them? --Robb A-freaking-men. It's pretty sad how there are some who are SO hellbent on getting their favorite coasters to the top of the polls. It's not life or death, it's roller coasters. Sheesh. That being said, I thought Prowler was pretty awesome. But I thought Evel Knieval was better, which I rode the day before and had a pretty instant comparison of the two (although my EK rides were at night and Prowler was during the day, might have made a difference). AND HOORAY FOR RAMPAGE BEING BACK IN THE TOP 20 WHERE IT BELONGS!!!!!! -

Ok that looks INSANE. Maybe crazier than a SCAD tower? -

I wonder when someone says "I would pay any money to do _______" if they would REALLY pay ANY money to do it. -
Yeah I remember the Clementon people visiting us during the year. I didn't really interact with them at all, but from what I heard their experience was positive. I was up at SFGAd at the beginning of September this year and wanted to make a pit stop at Clementon, but it was a weekday and at that point it was only open weekends. Maybe another year!

^Siesta Key is the greatest beach on Earth, and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise! I'll be in Venice in under 2 days and loving it. -
One of the great things about working year-round at a seasonal park is the ability to come in and take some exclusive photos of the coasters without having to worry about your head getting pancaked by a 5-ton train full of riders. A couple of times this year I've taken the time to climb all over Rampage and Zoomerang to get tons of perspectives that very few people ever get of either ride, and it wouldn't feel right to not share some of the highlights with my coaster enthusiast pals on TPR. So enjoy! Disclaimer: I just have a regular point and shoot camera, so some of the color and clarity quality displayed by other talented TPR photographers won't be present in this post, BUT I still think they look great. However, you can all be the judge of that! Nerd shot #5, and the ultimate nerd shot, Rampage's wheel assembly!! Noooo, the sun is inside of Rampage, it's going to burn down!!! Look closely and you can see the ferris wheel in the background. Sun's going down now. SPACE SHOT IS INSIDE OF ZOOMERANG!!!! COASTER PORN!!!!!!!! Loop and the blue, blue sky. Looking up the first lift. Slightly different perspective of the same look. Inside the track, looking at the looooooop! Mmmmmm more curves. Curvy. Skycoastin Steve likes to sit on boomerang catwalks and take in the fresh air. Another of my favorite pictures of the bunch. Another silhouette. On the catwalk, yeahhhhh the catwalk.....cause I'm, too sexy for this coaster. Half of the boomerang. Silhouette. Zoomerang! Another perspective on the same. Staring down the final drop and turn before the brakes. OMFGZZZZZ INVERTED WOODIE!!!!!! Looking at the first drop from the track it flies under. If you look closely you can see the pothole. Yes, THE pothole to end all potholes! Going down the "3rd" hill or what I like to call the "pothole" hill. TPR members who were on the Deep South Trip know all too well about this hill. Exiting the first turn-around.... Another shot of some supports from above that I think looks really cool. Looking back at the entrance to the first turn-around. Crest of the 2nd hill, site of some serious airtime. Rampage and Zoomerang. Nerd shot #4, under the upstop track! The beautiful structure. Ooooh, an artsy, focused/blurry take on the first drop. Another tilted picture of the bottom of the first drop. First drop again! Rays of sunshine shining down on Rampage, or is that God? A closer view of the first drop. While it doesn't look that steep from up top, trying to walk up that thing is REALLY hard. Nerd shot #2, the other sprocket at the bottom! Standing inside the track now. Ok so the track really doesn't bank this much, I just tilted the camera to give it that Nascar feel. In reality they barely banked that turn at all, insane! Looking back up the first drop. Part 2. Looking down through the supports at the track below. Looking down the lift. Nerd shot #1, sprocket at the top of the chain lift. No thanks, not walking down that, but I'll ride down it! Crest of the first hill 120 feet up! Support structure of the lift from up top, very cool. The layout from on top of the lift. Crossover goodness. Rampage's chain, one of my favorite pictures.

Alright I edited the photo post and bumped the thread in hopes that this will make the Park Index. I worked hard on the TR, I want it to live forever! -
Most Overrated coaster?
Skycoastin Steve replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Bite your tongue! Triangle airtime hills are the greatest thing since sliced bread! It's the rock hard lapbars that have to go! But I still LOVE Magnum with all my heart, that ride never gets old. -
Busch Gardens Trip

I went to BGT a couple times around Christmas last year, once a few days before Christmas and on New Years. Both times were semi-crowded, but nothing horrible. You should be able to get everything done. -
Ok I have finalized and planned out my trips for 2010 and it's fair to say that I am REALLY excited about this year. Even more so than I was for 2009. Los Angeles March 17 - Scandia, Castle, John's Incredible Pizza Company March 19 - Pacific Park March 20 - SFMM for WCB! March 21 - KBF for WCB! and mayyybe a quick trip in the middle of the day to Adventure City Intimidators Whenever I305 opens is when this trip happens, but it will involve Carowinds, KD, and SFA. Holiday World Holiwood Nights the first weekend of June. Don't think I will, but I might could stop at Beech Bend for a few spins on the Rumbler on the way up there. Lake Winnie Never went there this summer out of laziness, I'll definitely go sometime on a day off, it's not a bad drive from here. New England July 7 - 7 parks on 7/7!!!! Canobie Lake, Funworld Game Center, Funtown Splashtown, Palace Playland, Story Land, Six Gun City, and Santa's Village! July 8 - La Ronde and Great Escape July 9 - Quassy, Lake Compounce, and SFNE San Francisco August 10 - CGA and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk August 11 - SFDK All in all, I have about 115 credits I could possibly get in 2010, which would be insane (I got 87 new credits in 2009). Hopefully it all works out without a hitch!

Yes I am! Can't wait! Have you ridden Drachen Fire with the original layout (before the corkscrew was removed)?

Worlds of Fun or Six Flags St Louis?
Skycoastin Steve replied to themeparkologist's topic in Ask Alvey
I went to both on Halloween weekend and liked SFStL a little better than WoF. Evel Knieval, Boss, and Screamin' Eagle are all quality woodies, and Mr. Freeze is obviously a great ride. The Batman is your typical Batman, I thought Patriot was better. Like said before, WoF has Prowler and Patriot and that's about it. Mamba was a big let down, nowhere near as good as Steel Force as far as Morgan hypers go.
