I really like these pictures because they feel like they were taken by someone actually walking around the park. So often I feel that the photos around here look/feel more like brochure photos, while yours really capture the park as it is to a person on the ground.

Not convinced those are pieces of the ride. If you go to Bing maps birds eye view, you can see the same parts near Mind Eraser. Pretty sure those have been there for years, whatever they are. EDIT: Parts are to the right of the ride. EDIT the 2nd: Pretty sure those are off-season storage for Mind Eraser trains.

Not long after I took over operations of the park, Prince Desmond called me and gave me an address. It was a huge warehouse. He took me inside, and strewn about were various coaster parts. Most looked to be Arrow, many stacks of lumber, and a pile of Schwarzkopf track. He then proceeded to tell me what it all was..... "The orange and black track, it's a Bat from the Island of Kings!" "The wood, it came from a Hurricane!" "Then ones of blue, black and red, those came from many places, I'm not sure how they go together, but you can figure it out, I'm sure" "The blue and green, along with the white, were made of lightning!" "The blue and yellow, I'm told, came from a large snake!" He then told me that these NEEDED to go along side Teh Big Dipper, where they can live once again. Desmond gave me no blueprints, just some old photos to work from. Teh Bat was fairly easy, as all the parts were there. Python was simple as well. The wood had to be brought in with a fleet of pickup trucks to the park, some from Florida. The Schwarzkopf parts were from two shuttle loops. One was whole. The other was just a loop, so I merged the two rides. As I strolled trough the remaining Arrow parts, I start to figure it out. The first drop/inversion of Drachen Fire, the boomerang of The Great American Scream Machine, assorted parts from the Steel Phantom, the interlocking loops of The Orient Express and the corkscrews of Shockwave. I think the word you're looking for is "verboten", which means forbidden. Forboten isn't a word in German. EDIT: OP fixed his post, nothing to see here, move along folks.....

Are we allowed to relocate the existing coasters to elsewhere in the park, other than Teh Big Dipper?

Keep in mind that the topography the ride was originally on is likely a bit different than what it's on now. Cheaper to make tall footers than buy taller supports, I'd think.

Chances are I'm heading to BGT for the first time sometime during the first week of November while visiting some friends in FL. Any tips about the park I should know?

This was obviously done in two shots and only the audio from the first was used. The speed looks right, judging from the other non-official test video we saw before.

On the B&Ms it's not the waist you need to worry about as much as it is the gut and shoulders. I have two larger friends of similar weight, but shaped quite differently. One is usually fine on B&M rides, but not Intamin (smaller chest/gut, larger waist [48"-50"], can't buckle the belt), and the other is the opposite, can't do B&Ms (larger chest stops the restraint from going down enough), but somehow can get on every Intamin he's tried so far. Both can ride the flyers just fine though, so Manta is probably of less concern.

The last couple parks we went to (Seabreeze, SFGAdv), the times we played anything was when they were competitive games (Whack-A-Mole, various water gun games), and when we would be the only group playing, guaranteeing us a win.

I've tried it before, and it wasn't accurate at all. If it's the same app I'm thinking of, it's only as accurate as the person reporting the times, and only good for that moment in time. You're also counting on someone else at the park using the app.

Not quite. If you look at the concept art, the trains are going in the same direction, so it wouldn't be a flyby.

I thought that track found in the safari section was the old track from Lightning Loops. I could be wrong, though. That piece of track has been in the Safari since at least 1996. Not sure which ride it came from, though I'm inclined to go with Lightning Loops. EDIT: I'm just going nuts. Looking at my pictures from back then, I can't find any evidence of the track being there in 96, and the crossties match GASM, not Lightning Loops.

Personally, I don't think Predator needs it anymore. The old Voyage trains have improved the ride significantly.

With temps rising past 95, I decided to head down to Seabreeze to cool off, rather than sweat in my apartment. Despite never living more than 15 miles from the park (even on the same road as the park for a year), I haven't made the short trip since I worked there 12 years ago. Got in for $15 after 5 with a Pepsi can, and decided to hit the water park first. Not much has changed since I've last been, the only real notable addition being a Proslide Bowl. Never had to wait behind more than 5 people on most of the slides, other than the Bowl. For such a hot day, the water park seemed unusually empty. Hit each slide twice, decided it was time for dinner, went to the car, where I proceeded to lock my keys in the trunk. Fast forward 90 minutes after getting a ride back to my apartment to get my spare key. The lady wanted ride the Tilt-a-Whirl, and we got a great ride due to unbalancing the car. Jack Rabbit was next. This ride seems to have improved over the last decade. The trains looked new-ish (refurbished?). The train was flying through the course far faster than I remember, and was proven right when we hit the turnaround. I never had any laterals on that turn before, and they were here now. It tries so hard to give a little air, but just never quite does it. Headed to the other side of the park to get my Whirlwind credit. Fun ride, though it didn't spin much, and we spent the majority of the ride just going sideways. Was amused by the woman in front of us who was so afraid if she left her purse in the station it would be stolen, and nearly didn't ride because of it. After seeing her do this multiple times on various rides, this became a running gag. So, the new ride this year is a Disk'o, Revolution 360. Fun ride, though I regret shifting my position a bit after the restraints locked. Locked tighter on me, and made it hard to take a full breath. Fun ride regardless. The other new addition since my last visit was a Music Express, replacing my beloved Gyrosphere. Sure, it was just a Scrambler in a dome/oven, but it was tradition. Have to admit that the Music Express looks FAR better on the midway. I think you can be on that show "I Should Not Be Alive...." Not a huge fan of Mantis, but glad it gets some love. Five? When I was working there in 2002, one evening (It was either during coastermania or an employee ride night, can't recall at this point) I ended up riding it over 45 times consecutively. My legs were jello for the next few days.

Some history: Canal View Park was first created in 1908 along the Erie Canal between Rochester and Syracuse, New York. It began as a dock for a Paddlewheel Leisure Boat known as Betty's Barge. As more tourists arrived, the park quickly grew into a small amusement park, with rides for children and daily stage shows. In 1915, they added their first roller coaster, The Erie Scenic Railway. As the popularity of the park grew, more rides were purchased, culminating in the construction of the Great New York Bobs, in 1925. This, however, was short lived. Tragedy struck in 1926. A fire broke out in a food stall on the main midway. It quickly spread to other buildings, and then to the Bobs and Scenic Railway. The coasters were only partly spared. The stations of both were destroyed, and 25% of the structure of the Scenic Railway was ruined. The park did not have the money to keep operating in, and on July 23rd, 1926, it closed it's gates. The majority of the surviving rides were sold off, and the buildings demolished. The two coasters were deemed to expensive to move and no one wanted to pay to have them demolished. As such, they have stood there, unattended for nature to reclaim. Fast forward to 1965. The children of baby boomers have come of age, and are having kids of their own. Families are looking for activities during the summer months. A group of investors have purchased the land the old Canal View Park sits on, and want to revitalize into a regional destination. There is much work ahead. They would like to salvage what remains of its history, and their plans include the reconstruction of the Bobs and Scenic Railway. It's the last half of 1965. This is where you join the story. The charred remains of the Great New York Bobs (1964). The Bobs and the Scenic Railway, with the fire line between them (1964).

I used to have all of those Cedar Point postcards. Shame that I don't know whatever happened to them.
