  1. Had lost track of this thread. Sad to see PP going. One of my favourite water rides.
  2. Thanks for posting although watching some of the on-ride stuff made me feel ill. I visited this back in 1987. That makes me feel very old.
  3. Did it come like a bolt from the blue? I'll get my coat.
  4. I can imagine the hospital staff.... So sir, you damaged your ass on a children's ride? Yeah sure you did!
  5. ^^ I have to ask why you were reading the Daily Star.....
  6. ^ It's hard enough watching Craig and Bruno on Strictly without seeing them yelping on Goliath. Be thankful you're going at all even without LLDOD. Could be a long while before I get back now that we have a baby. If you haven't been before you will love it. Blows any UK park out the water imo.
  7. Hope I haven't missed it being mentioned but the UK is running a show called 'Scream Extreme'. Those who follow the Thorpe Park thread may have heard references to a show called 'Scream if You Know the Answer' which had list D celebs answering qustions and doing various daft challenges on the rides. Well now this series has been filmed at SFMM. First show was aired on Sunday. Haven't watched it all yet. Here's the trailer link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD9l82UN0CI
  8. Is he still talking about coasters at that point?
  9. After a positive review FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS RIDDEN ON IT I thought this would stop the madness about this ride. Little did I know it was going to get worse. Made me chuckle though.
  10. That lifthill goes on forever. Was terrified just watching it. Looks great and hope it proves all the doubters wrong. Shame I'll be unlikely to get over to ride it for a long time.
  11. Just looked it up in the dictionary. "Veloxrotaphobia" - the fear of excessive marketing.
  12. I did it myself a few years ago when I was about 35. No strange looks (that I noticed). I had a great day and you don't need to suit anyone but yourself. And you'll love the park.
  13. Won't be rushing to AT for this then.
  14. Maybe the next report will be that Francesco Schettino designed it.
  15. ^^^ was the answer that caught your eye the 'we love it too' or 'I am brazilliam and I have a mii on the wii'?
  16. Great footage. Those rides look so tame now but were so scary looking at the time.
  17. ^ That would appear to be a complete lie.
  18. Further recordings have been released of the captain denying there was any need to abandon ship. The suggestion is that if they called 'abandon ship' they would be forced to pay compensation. If true then that plus the above article about their attempts to settle is disgraceful. The captain is now saying that Costa told him to do the 'sail past' for publicity. Well it certainly worked.
  19. The only way Carnival can possibly escape the flak is to pin it all on Schettino - say he lost the plot and did all these things wrong and we couldn't have prevented it. Problem is they employed him.
  20. Seems according to reports that Schettino was entertaining a moldavan blonde over dinner and they were enjoying a decanter of red wine. As has been said it just gets more and more bizarre.
  21. Some of the Captain's story would be hilarious had it not been responsible for possibly dozens of lives. How a nutcase like this can be allowed to look after the safety of 4000 people is beyond me.
  22. ^ a bit more on that story and also on the reason he took that route. It gets worse the more you hear of it. http://www.independent.ie/world-news...t-2992996.html THE captain of the crippled Costa Concordia cruise ship, Francesco Schettino, has reportedly said the reason he was in a life boat while thousands of panic-stricken passengers and crew were trying to evacuate was because he "tripped" and fell into the rescue craft. Mr Schettino told investigating magistrates in Grosseto, on the Italian mainland, that he ended up in the life boat by accident. During three hours of interrogation on Tuesday, he reportedly said: “The passengers were pouring onto the decks, taking the lifeboats by assault. I didn’t even have a life jacket because I had given it to one of the passengers. I was trying to get people to get into the boats in an orderly fashion. Suddenly, since the ship was at a 60 to 70 degree angle, I tripped and I ended up in one of the boats. That’s how I found myself there.” He said he got stuck in the life boat for an hour before it was lowered into the water off the coast of Giglio island. Also with him was Dimitri Christidis, the Greek second in command of the Concordia and Silvia Coronica, the third officer, according to La Repubblica newspaper. “Suspended there, I was unable to lower the boat into the sea, because the space was blocked by other boats in the water. The captain confirmed that he took the cruise liner close to Giglio’s rocky coast in order to give a ‘salute’ to an old colleague, a former Costa Cruises captain named Mario Palombo. “It’s true that the salute was for Commodore Mario Palombo, with whom I was on the telephone. The route was decided as we left Civitavecchia but I made a mistake on the approach. I was navigating by sight because I knew the depths well and I had done this manoeuvre three or four times. But this time I ordered the turn too late and I ended up in water that was too shallow. “I don’t know why it happened, I was a victim of my instincts.” Once he had reached dry land and was allowed to leave the harbour master's office, Schettino's primary concern was to buy some socks. Ottavio Brizzi, a taxi driver on the island of Giglio, said he picked him up at 11.30am on Saturday and took him the 400 yards to the Bahamas Hotel. "It was a very short journey, no more than 30 seconds if that," he said. "He didn't say very much apart from asking me where he could buy some dry socks. He looked very cold and scared - he looked like a beaten dog."
  23. Apparently the rock in question was well known locally as 'Satan's tooth'. I'm not sure the chart thing will hold up. The other interesting story from the UK was the survivor who worked as a magician's assistant and was in a box just off stage when the ship struck the rock. Finally I am the only one sad enough to want to try the water slide in it's current position?
  24. ^ no great loss tbh. Never ride enterprise and rarely ride submission when I'm there.
