^ Brought a wee tear to the eye that article. Loved how David Icke did the report when it opened. Maybe that's when he went loopy! -

In fact just found this shot and it was British Red, White and Blue. They don't do ride photos like this anymore! It looked as though it was in need of a lick of paint then! -

After the corkscrew the rest of the ride was sooooo dull. -

Following on from its historical place on British TV with Blue Peter, Hold Tight and Beat the Teacher all showing it, does anyone remember it on the QED documentary in the 80s? Also featured were the Revolution at BPB, Greezed Lightnin' in Astroworld, Freefall in Astroworld and the Beast from Kings Island amongst others. Still have it on video and formed my fascination for coasters. -

Is the programme you're talking about Hold Tight which was presented by Bob Carolgees? It's sad in a way that such an iconic UK coaster is being demolished but it really has been showing its age. I will miss the lift chain noise tho. As for the future AT will have the old height restriction problem which will always hold it back as a park. At my last visit there 2 years ago I was disappointed at the state the park was in and felt it was all looking tired. Nemesis is now the only reason I would go there and I think it runs the risk of being overtaken by Thorpe Park as the most popular. -

The pretzel roll on Tatsu is second to none. -
Bit late for an update as I visited SFMM on vacation on Wed 27th Aug but here goes anyway. First thing was it was really quiet. Pretty much walked onto everything all day. Despite the lack of lines they ran two trains on most rides.Only downside to that was my second flashpass wasn't needed. Ran to be first on X2 at the front. Loved it as much as I did the original. Still a 10/10 for me. Fire was on but didn't see the fog. After my early morning run and once the heat and jetlag kicked in I felt a bit sick after being on 6 of the rides. Had a rest and was ok in the afternoon and went round everything again enjoying it so much more. Got on the front and back of most rides in the course of the day. Goliath, Riddlers and B:TR are so much better at the front. As for Tatsu - my new joint favourite with X2. The Pretzel Loop is breathtaking. Why do so many people want to spit when they are on it though? Got on it 3 times including the front. My body wasn't taking as many G's as it can or it would have been more. Generally the staff were good (better than the bad press they get on here). Only downside was Deja Vu being down all day with no obvious attempts to fix it. Had been looking forward to it. X2 went down late on the day but after a patient wait I got 2 more rides on it after its supposed closing time. All in all I had a great time. Hardly any waits, I got on most rides twice and even got on all the water rides etc as well. SHame it will be a while before I make it back.

I am going to SFMM on Wednesday next week. I am going on my own (my girlfriend hates theme parks!) and have bought one flash pass. I want to make the most of my day and thinking of getting a second one. Is that allowed? The rules aren't that clear but it looks as though you can only have one per person. Anyone know?

Hahaha!! This made me laugh! Me too!! Im glad someone else experienced this as well. It was awful!! Maybe its just rough for Scottish people?? Lol! Roller Coaster at Blackpool makes the Big Dipper feel like a trip down a canal. -

Going to Brighton for a stag weekend and considering getting a couple of credits at the Pier. They look dreadful though. -
Are 2 flash passes at SFMM worth it? This is a one-off trip for me and don't want to leave having missed anything. Have got one already but wonder whether I need a second to get round evrything in a day. ITs a Wednesday so its only open 1030 - 7. And will it be dark at all by 7?

Cobra Roll I see you are from Glasgow and weren't even born at the time of the Garden Festival. It was only on for the summer across from the SECC. It was fantastic and was great for the City. Where those flats are now was all wasteland before the festival. And it had the only decent coaster Scotland has ever seen! -

My vote is for sentimental reasons. It was the first coaster I was ever on. It was the Coca-Cola Roller at the Glasgow Garden Festival which was only open for one summer in 1988. Was on it about 16 times or so. Was a bit nervous about coasters til then (I was 14) but never looked back after that. It was a boomerang identical to The Bat at Canada's Wonderland which I also rode that year. -
I take it you can get more than one flash pass per person then? Might get two just to make sure I can get round everything. It will be a long time (if ever) when I get back there!

RITA falls short due to the height restrictions at AT. Stealth looks far more impressive. -

Nemesis is still the best although I'm restricted to a choice of there or Blackpool. I found Rita was pretty average and Oblivion is too short once you ride Sheikra. As for wood I love the Grand National. The Wild Mouse runs it close although you are just glad to get off that alive!!! -
I realise that this thread has taken a new turn but thanks to those who responded to my question. Hadn't realised the lines would be so big even for opening. I had planned to arrive about 10am for 1030 opening. Looks like it may still be a big wait for X2 then. With my online ticket is it easy to get in? And where and when is the best place to get the flashpasses?

Hi, I'm a newbie. I live in Scotland and am coming over to LA in August. I am getting one day at SFMM (Wed 27th August) and am leaving my girlfriend at the pool for the day while I try to run round getting on everything. Not sure if its the done thing on this forum but I would really appreciate some tips on the best way to get everything in. I have a flash pass to pick up - when is the best time to get it and where do you get it from? Is it best to head for X2 straight off or leave it til later? Needless to say X2 and Tatsu are my priorities. Cheers.
