Yeah. Right. And you're somehow sticking to that story?!?!?
-
Nah. I doubt you could handle it! Anywho, I'm actually kind of the opposite. While Disney does do the "fastpass" system for free, it actually works at the Disney parks, because they have tons of other things to offer to kill that time. It makes managing the parks very easy. Six Flags, not so much. In the way of attractions, there is much fewer things to do, and, though their reputation is focusing on change, you'll NEVER get a "Disney-esque" experience at any SF park. Unless it was a home park, where I can attend local events and such, I'd have no problem paying the extra $$ for the "flashpass", "Q-bot" or whatever they have, to ride the rides that I'm there for. For example, when a group of 4 of us went to SFGAd on the Sunday of MEMORIAL Day weekend in 2005 (not the best choice, but's that's the way it worked out), it was a NO-BRAINER to get the "Gold Q-bot". IIRC, I think we paid about $55 each. BUT, we rode KK 3 times in the first 2 hours of operation, when it had a posted wait time of 5 hours!! After that, with the "Gold Q-bot", everything else was a walk-on. They had sectioned off rows on almost every ride. With a 90 minute wait on Nitro, we got 6 consecutive rides. So, basically, I have NO problem paying the extra $$ to enhance my own experience. JJ

Undocumented/forgotten coasters
OldJJman replied to Kennyweird's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A great source for information on location of various parks/coasters is postcards!! Mark's Postcard thread opens up quite a world of info. You can find it here. Also, check Ebay for postcards of parks and coasters. You'll find quite a few that you've never heard of! (At least I did!) JJ -
Megafobia or Rampage
OldJJman replied to Mit deLuxe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only been on Megafobia in 2002 and 2006 (same times as Robb). I was really looking forward to it as I really like Rampage a lot!! I was really underwhelmed. Like Robb said, it's a good ride, but I never rode it when it "had" power. Both ERT's I've been on were morning, and both days (temperature wise) were fairly mild. I do remember one small hill (just before the on-ride photo) where you come out of your seat, up and right, and the train dips down to the left. Other than that, the sheep were more interesting. Rampage I just love. *I* find it to be quite powerful, and a great wild out of control ride, with only one hill (the Ted Ansley hill) that always seems like you should be getting airtime, but just NEVER delivers. Other than that, it's awesome. Still sits in my top 10 at #9. JJ -
Where have you been!? Whatever! You know what I meant. "Burger Invasion" (It was crap anyway!) Best thing that was ever back there anyway (IMO) was the peanut butter and jelly pizza at Pizza Oom Mow Mow (unless that has changed too!). That whole backside of the park has been quite dead to me for some time now. Just close it all. Get it done in 3-4 months. Then put up "normal" (for Disney) construction walls when they start Mermaid, and open the backside up again.
-
Well, I've been there 3 times since the beginning of the year (twice with guests, once by myself). I'm all for the change, and crap like that. BUT, it does look hideous!! The first guest wanted to get the credits and TSM. Then we got the hell outta that side of the park. It just doesn't have that Disney friendliness vibe with all of those damn walls. The other had the credits, and didn't want to do TSM (posted 90min and single rider was closed). IMO, I like the idea of a 2-park (reduced or NO rate) combo, BUT, just block off the whole backside of the park. Just block it off from the end of Grizzly on one side, and block off the Boudin Bakery/Tortilla factory areas. Yeah, TSM just opened, and the 2 coasters, McDonalds etc... would be lost in the shuffle. But with the walls, and on the scale of what's being done, just cut it off to people altogether. Give the construction crews the ability to do their jobs uninhibited and get it all done that much faster! Lord knows what a pain it's going to be when they move the entrance anyway. JJ

No. That was the Greyhound at Lakewood Park in Atlanta. -
^ Why do I get the feeling that instead of enjoying the crappiest movies this world has to offer on his brithday, Chuck sat his computer searching YouTube for the crappiest videos??

Shane's Amusement Attic
OldJJman replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Very nice Shane! I'm wondering - with those very heavy NAD trains and the video, it looks as if this was a front seat ride with extreme air in 1.1 and 1.3. Maybe some extended floater air in the back row on the drops, especially the second hill, and the hill after the first turn-around. I can only base this guess on the video and the only other ride (I think) that I've ridden with NAD trains, Colossus (when it opened). As in, short INSTANT slam into the lap bars and back down just as hard! Does that sound about right? JJ -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
OldJJman replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I saw this thread pop up, I almost became irate. The amount of STUPIDITY displayed in the FALSE hopes of resurrecting that park are utterly amazing. I really wasn't going to respond. BUT... Then, referring to Mr. Danny Rogers, Truer words could not have been written. Thank you sir! In one word, you summed up what I've been saying all along! (Now see what you started! ) For those of you who do not know what I am referring to, you can read the whole 28 page thread here. For the insight and research that I did, you can skip quite a bit and start here. When you're up to speed, then please, continue. (Pause, for the ineptitude of the people who actually believe in this diatribe of crap that is SO deep, even the waders of championship fishermen can't keep them from getting crap in their underwear!) Done reading? Caught up? Good! To add to what I have already stated, (I've done more research. Try it sometime, you might learn something.) here is some more interesting information: (Quoting the quotes of Danny Rogers, posted by the original poster, as quoted from one of the fansites.) First off - WHY SHOULD THEY??? They are an investment banking firm! They are also in the business of making money. For their investors! Here's a direct quote from the AMVEST website. As I conjectured in the SFNO thread, and though there is NO actual proof of this really happening (for the sake of argument, I'll assume it's true), Danny Rogers evidently went to AMVEST and asked them for some sort of funding assistance. For whatever reason (IF, it is true) they took him seriously. He probably asked for something in the 20-30 million dollar range. IIRC, that was the original number Mr. Rogers posted to a fansite, that would ensure the resurrection of SFNO in one form or another. As investment bankers, AMVEST, who DOES have the experience in acquiring or selling a business looked into the proposition. I would hazard the guess as a SERIOUS look. They will not take chances with their stockholders money on a crapshoot. But first, another pet peeve. ANYONE who is, or claims to be, a CEO of ANY company, WOULD NOT: 1) post to a forum of a fansite, 2) post such dialogue WITHOUT using spellcheckers, and proofreading for grammatical errors! /end pet peeve. Danny Rogers continued: There you have it! Right there. An admission from a PROFESSIONAL INVESTMENT COMPANY, that this is NOT a good place to sink money in to, or invest in. But, Mr Rogers continued: Well, OF COURSE they did!! They needed a secondary source of PROVEN income, to subsidize what this "stand alone" project CAN NOT DO! (I can't go on without mentioning Mr. Rogers plea, trying to tug on the heartstrings of some dumb-witted morons, and calling it "your park". Like *I* said before, He really has no interest in the success of the park itself, other than to be a broker (which means making a % off of any transactions) to ANY interested parties. But wait! Southern Star Amusements has it's own ace-in-the-hole, Danny Rogers. After all, Danny Rogers stated (on the SFNO website) that he "went from being a kiddie ride op to being a CEO of a Roller Coaster Company." (btw-quoted exactly as was posted.) So, he MUST have connection in the industry that would be willing to help him. Of course, there is NO one who even claims to know him. His personal resume'? As to personal background that is restricted information. This company's policy is to never divulged personal information on the Internet again for obvious reasons. No other information about this group will be made public. (Dramatic pause for effect.) Everything else in the quoted article Mr. Rogers wrote concerning the financial "facts": Whatever. They were also probably the quoted findings of AMVEST, as to why they WOULD NOT finance the proposal. It is way too risky. As in, it has a <1% chance of happening. Just in case you forgot what I had written on May 14 of last year (here), I'll quote it for you: Mr. Rogers is simply acting as a middleman, trying to make a quick buck off of trying resurrect a failed park, that was done in by a hurricane. He’s looking for money to finance it, someone with ideas to implement, and someone to run the park as well. Apparently, I was right. I told you so! IT'S OVER!! IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!! GIVE IT UP!!! JJ -

Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...
OldJJman replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Larry, I'm NOT doubting you, as I KNOW you know way more about these things than I do. But, even *IF* a lender were to take over, wouldn't the SF properties still be considered a positive cash flow, by past proven performance records? (Attendance based) Wouldn't that still be reason enough to keep the parks open? To recoup whatever $$ they could? I mean even a smaller property like SFA, can really only bring in what the actual land value is, plus the rides liquidated at a basic "firesale" price. That wouldn't really recoup any significant funds to pay off any debtor (aside from Dippin' Dots). OTOH, I feel like the example of HRP, which had little to none, support base to speak of. Season pass sales were on the extreme edge of minimal, thus the projected income was nearly nil, with no guaranteed income for the park. Hence the closure and subsequent auction/liquidation. What I'm getting at is, if the turnstiles are still moving, wouldn't that be enough reason to keep them open, vs closure, and getting even less pennies on their (lent) dollars?? JJ -
LMFAO!!!

Hell yes. Back seat! JJ

Yeah, we saw it. But we were heading in the opposite direction (Parc St. Paul, La Mer de Sable) and due to time constraints, we opted not to chance it. You guys suck! (That's a collective shout out to your whole group of 5!) Do not underestimate those PAX coasters!! (like we did at first!) Those 2 coasters provided some of the most extreme airtime on the whole trip. It was quite a pleasant surprise! JJ (Who, in fact, does NOT remember the "Cretaceous Period")
