DL Passport question...
DerekRx replied to shepp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I believe only WDW uses the biometrics so far, and they only started doing it in 2005. If you had a ticket older than that, you could still use it today without it being bioregistered. I don't know how or if you can actually use one purchased off of ebay with someone else's stuff on it, but I wouldn't want to risk getting one to begin with. I'll stick with buying excess days with no expiration and saving some money overall. -
After returning home, we enjoyed the warm weather, and since we were in the US, we couldn't possibly visit an amusement park! So, we sat around outside for a bit, drank, and then went to a party when it got dark out! Crazy Jake decided to host a party because it was a day ending in a Y, and thanks to Tom, he's been converted to a beer enthusiast. Definitely something I like, just add lemon and warm weather. Time for me to try this "amazing" beer Crazy Jake knows what it takes to get on TPR...beer! More specifically, Paulaner!

On Saturday we went to Victory because Tom was sad he couldn't join us 2 weeks ago. We didn't stay too long though because the weather was too nice to spend indoors drinking. On the way home we stopped at Shangy's, which is like the Pennsylvania SuperWalmart of beer! Finally the Smith's have visited Victory. And Tom couldn't decide which he liked the most; HopDevil Cask, jerk chicken sandwich, or homemade french fries Leann didn't realy enjoy the HopDevil Cask Somewhere in this room there is a Yeti on a beer run I then tried their pizza, which was decent We were starving, so this bruschetta didn't last long I was happy to start out with an Uncle Teddy's Bitter Tom wasn't too happy until after he got his Mad King's Weiss We arrived just after a bus tour had left, lucky us!

A recap of the weekend: Friday- started off at Don Pablos with a margarita and some enchiladas and tamales. Then it was over to Tom's for some drinking! And I finished off the night with a Dogfish Head 60 Min. Then I went with Tom's summer selection, Hoegaarden! Back at Tom's I started out with a Hop Wallop, since my supply is gone Going from IPA to Belgian White to IPA has my taste buds all confused

Thinking of moving back to Pennsylvania...
DerekRx replied to Rachel127's topic in Random, Random, Random
If you grew up in Pennsylvania, you'll find going back much easier. However, before you do anything brash, consider just traveling there a few times during the year to get a feel for the place. Do you want to be there in the sometimes cold winters when the closest amusement parks aren't even opened? You may also want to see about having a job lined up before moving there. I came back to PA without much notice, but luckily I am in a profession in high demand, so it didn't take much time at all to find a job. Just don't move there because of your ex. I've only been in Phoenix on an emergency landing last November, but yeah, it looked pretty dusty and hot. -

GOOD news from Texas!

Thats great news! I'm glad to see they've been saved, though its WAY out there in the other part of Texas. Better than the scrap heap though! -
Last Season for MB Pavilion is 2006
DerekRx replied to Edwardo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think any of us here are going for the "Credit" run, more like the "if we don't go now, there won't be anything" run. Still, if someone does want to go simply for the credits, that's their prerogative. In a way, everything is a credit run, dark rides, coasters, overall experiences. If I just wanted to go to a park for the sake of going to a park, I'd be about $50,000 richer by just going to Dorney every week, total cost per year $90 for a pass, about $25 a month for gasoline. -
Last Season for MB Pavilion is 2006
DerekRx replied to Edwardo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Hey, its either 90 minutes or an eternity, you decide. Erik, I'd go for the extra 30 minutes. That's what I'm thinking as I look at what weekends I have free and how expensive airfare is. I still remember like a year or two they kept insisting that MB Pavilion would not be closing, it was just a rumor. -
Had a dinner meeting tonight to talk about newer chemotherapy drugs and what exactly it treats. I ended up selecting the Spaten for the evening, with a glass of pinot grigio with the meal, lobster cakes! And frozen Gran Marnier souffle for dessert! mmmm, Lobster cakes Free beer sure hits the Spaten!

Last Season for MB Pavilion is 2006
DerekRx replied to Edwardo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thank you for sharing this info. I always wanted to visit MB and the Pavilion, but kept putting it off for one reason or another. I was actually looking into going there next weekend, until a work conference came up being that weekend. I decided I'd just put it off until the Hard Rock Park was constructed. Looks like I'll be going to MB this year after all, probably in August, though knowing my luck a hurricane will come thru that weekend and I won't get on anything. I'll rethink my season plans soon and find time for it. -
I got XM a little over a year ago and I love it. I like the music selection, the sports lineups, the traffic, and the overall size of the units over the Little Doggy. I'll take satellite over FM, but I'll take O&A over Howie anyday. I'll be looking into the mp3 MyFi once they're able to store more memory. Until then, I'm content with my MyFi.

Yeah, the Semi-OTSRs are a pain on the intense Schwarzys because they continue to ratchet down in the exit of each loop. I'd be 6'1" right now if I hadn't ridden Texas Tornado while I was still growing, causing my spine to get crushed. Now I'm only 5'5", so much for my basketball career! I believe it was mandated by Schwarzkopf that every looper with more than 3 loops be given the OTSR treatment, though the traveling triples were just given the 5 points. I think it has more to do with keeping you upright though with the forces. If you lean forward for too many loops you could probably screw something up in your back or brain. Don't forget Revolution has OTSRs, but they aren't the same as Zonga's (which were redesigned by Anton's son, Weiland.) SF has Revolution's monstrocities thrown on. And yes, Togo's megacoaster restraints are good that they lock, but not so good that the whole train locks at once, and where ever your restraint is, that's where it remains. Then each individual seat has to be resized if you breathed, sloutched, or screwed up while they were locking.

I voted for Iron Wolf, gotta give some lovin' to B&Ms first. The layout is interesting, and the ride is somewhat fun, though I have gotten a few headbangingy rides on it. Second favorite is GA Scorcher, everything from the location, the compactness, the straight drop, and that weird sideways hill. Plus its still smooth, I think.

Texas Cyclone demolished
DerekRx replied to restoca's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Stinks they couldn't have moved it to one of the neighboring Six Flags parks and instead they took the thing down all less than 5 months after closing its doors. I'm very glad I chose not to wait around at that Mexican restaurant outside the park for our table, and instead went back into the park when I saw TC was running back on my only trip there in 1999. Sadly, one more defunct woodie added to my count. -
Movieland Studios Discussion Thread

I'm not sure if Hyde sold or not. Still, kinda cool that 20 some years after they first became available, they're being sold and touted as new rides to draw in the crowds. You know you've built a good thrill ride if its still exciting 20 years later. I bet Joey is sad they went last year and not this year. -

Yeah, the first picture reminds me of either a Prison or a school (same difference!) The second one looks more castle-like though. Best thing of all....Pirate Bar! Wonder if TPR will stay here on their Europe trip, whatever year that may be. -
Stealth is looking good. I'm very excited after hearing those magic letters ERT come June. Its such a cute little Baby Ka.

OK, so apparently it takes a trip to IKEA and McDonalds to get the exhibitionism out of the British porn stars. Me likey, me approve.

^Nice picture, but you're wrong on both accounts! I'd never have the same beer twice, unless it was HopDevil and my only other option was another HopDevil or a Miller Lite.

^Oh no, Barry forgot to take his meds again. Snake Eyes, help the man out! I very much appreciate the Vertical Loop pics, but the ELoussa pictures I'm pretty much disappointed in. You'd think a porn star would have more sultry seductiveness and show more, but then again, she is British. Gimme more Robb on Tom on Ed pictures, that's where the bandwidth is taken up right now!

So what new coaster is coming to BGW in 2007???
DerekRx replied to Bob O's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know what this newspaper is smoking, but I see Le Scoot on both the web version of the park map as well as in the rides list. I highly doubt BGW will get rid of its popular log flume, unless it builds a watercoaster in its place, which I don't think is going to happen. I see plenty of room (plenty of room!) for them to build a coaster in the remainder of New France, even if it is like DarkStitch mentioned, an out and back that ends up over at Drachen Fire and parallels the train. -
Knowing Disney as of lately, if Beastly Kingdom does indeed get constructed, it will either be done very quickly and crapfully (like Dino-Rama) or it will be done well, but take a long time from greenlight to opening (like Everest). If it is going to open, I wouldn't expect it until at least 2010, or maybe 2011 for WDWs 40th anniversary, especially if its going to open with 2 big E-tickets.
