I washed my car, cleaned out the garage so I can fit the car into it instead of parking it in the street (stupid trees dumping flowers and crap!). Afterwards, it was beer time! Nice easy to drink stout! I like the vanilla hints in it Tonight I tried the Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout, in a Stoudt's glass

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
DerekRx replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The proposal looks awesome, and hopefully the park does eventually get approval to build this. Mr and Mrs Roper can only live for so long. Too bad Jack Tripper died, otherwise he could drive them to move away and landlord elsewhere. -
I've been there before and I'm most excited about going in a smaller group than last time but still fairly large, heading back to a bunch of parks I love, getting to ride some new stuff, and best of all, not having to worry about a thing once I'm there since we're going to have guidebooks and everything beforehand! Plus ERTs with only 2 trainfuls of people, that's terrific!

I could kinda see it not showing up as opened if there was a special event such as physics days or something like that, but since this was just a tour, I can only laugh at the school and tour company for just randomly picking a Monday in April to go. Unless it was a park I KNOW is opened 365 days a year, I'd have checked the website several times over. I guess they all just assumed the other party did that. Stinks for the kids though, I guess.

What are those little spikey things?
DerekRx replied to BrownStreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Without a more clear idea of what you're talking about, specifically which B&Ms, I'm just going to have to guess you're talking about Goliath at SFOG and Sheikra and say they are poles used to hold the nets up for lost articles. If you can specifically point out pictures of what you're talking about, we can probably make better guesses. -

Are These Two Coasters Mirror Clones?
DerekRx replied to sfgoliath's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Homer may have quoted the wrong thing in regards to THIS particular question, but I did already answer this question in the other thread before this thread was even started. (Why start a thread when you already know the answer?) Did I randomly make up an answer when I said: -
Yeah, they had the train running, but since the station was on the other side of the parkat the entrance, both times we walked by the train was doing its circuit. I didn't know how long it would take, and we really didn't have much time, not knowing the traffic situation back to Atlanta. Otherwise I would have done that and the skyride.

Photo TR: Fantazy Land, Alexandria, Egypt.
DerekRx replied to dubaidave's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
The whole park just looks like some plotline that should be used in "My Name is Earl": "Years ago, Earl and Randy stumble upon an abandoned amusement park. As an unknowning tourist arrives and asks how much to enter the park, Earl has an idea to make some money and scam a camcorder. After raising the admission price several times, the tourist enters the park, Earl tries to make it seem like the park is operational while Randy attempts to steal some stuff off the 'customer'. After karma visits Earl years later, he is forced to pay retribution to the coaster enthusiast by taking him to an actual operating theme park." Don't worry Dave, in a few years Egyptian Earl will come knocking on your Dubai Door and whisk you away to any park of your choosing. -
Thats very odd about the photo nazis. Maybe they're native American and think you're trying to steal a part of their soul. Wish I could have known/asked permission to film on the Oh Zone, I had a really nice view of the entire layout of Cannon Ball. The park may have mild thrills, but its more of a classic feel, made for kids before they graduate onto the Six Flags and such. I know the op on Cannon Ball was talking to one patron about how she thought it was odd that the park didn't have any looping coaster and that they should get one. I know I wouldn't mind seeing an old Schwarzkopf show up there...maybe even Thriller! ^^I'm not big into bumper cars. The only park where I will religiously ride them is Knoebels, because they are so hard hitting and heavy. Even Rye Playland's cars left me disappointed, but then again I am usually the one driving, and riding the bumper cars and then leaving for the next destination is never a good idea!

NEWS: The Quest is over for DisneyQuest WDW
DerekRx replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thats kinda disappointing. Glad I'm sending my relatives there this year even though their travel agent told them to stay away from Disney Quest because you have to pay for all the arcade games. WTF? I know I won't be stepping foot inside once its converted to an ESPN Zone. If I was intended to be a professional sports star, I wouldn't have been born stinking at sports and ending up being only 5'5" and having to prodigy my way thru 7 years of college in 5 years to make 6 figures a year. RIP Cyber Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean -
Please stop making the server go down. I have a tendency to hyperventilate if I can't look at TPR during my lunch break. Glad you're on top of things and care so much about us all to try and fix things as soon as possible, you're awesome!

Started off tonight with the Victory Ten Year Alt. What's next, who knows! This is my "happy I have beer" face I happen to like it

After a crappy day at work and crappy yard work, I kicked back a few. Porters aren't my thing, but it did have a nice coffee and chocolate taste and aroma. Next was the Magic Hat Batch 373, a porter A very good Pale Ale, nice hoppiness, good taste, smooth and refreshing First, Old Dominion's Dominion Pale Ale

^Yeah, it ran pretty good at Hershey back in the day. In its later years I think it had maint. problems. Joker left Dorney because of Hydra, but you can still get a similar experience on the Huss Rainbow, I think SFA has one, or the 1001 Nachts/Magic Carpet at Knoebels or Kennywood.

Six Flags Great Adventure Question
DerekRx replied to sfgoliath's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hurricane is no Skull Mountain. Skull Mountain is a custom built Intamin, where Hurricane is a standard Windstorm built by S&MC/Premier. The two rides are nothing alike, share none of the same statistics, layout, or anything other than the fact that they are both roller coasters, have a lift, a drop, no inversions, and a station. Coincidentally though, originally Great Adventure was supposed to have Skull Mountain be a Windstorm, but with 2 of them already so close by, the park decided to go with a different company and layout (the dissolvement of S&MC may have also been occuring at this time). Six Flags Over Texas did stay with the original Windstorm idea though, and just had Premier make their version a mirror image. -
Most Intense B&M!
DerekRx replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To me, the most intense B&Ms are also my favorite ones. Batman, Kumba, Nemesis, Goliath, Montu (when brakeless), and Fire Dragon. Superman's pretzel loop is pretty intense, but the rest of the ride is pretty lame. One intense element doesn't make an intense ride per say. -
When we knew we were going to SFOG for Spring Fling, I also looked into other parks in the area we could include. Since neither of us had ever been to Lake Winnie, that was the obvious choice. I didn't know what to prepare for, I was thinking it'd be something like Del Grosso's with a woodie, and that's pretty much what it was. Luckily for us, traffic wasn't bad and we managed to get there in about 1:30, spend 1:30 in the park, and got back to Atlanta with plenty of time to eat. The park wasn't very crowded, but it wasn't exactly empty either. We did 3 rides on the Cannon Ball, 1 on the mouse, 1 on the Wacky Worm, and a ride on the Boat Chute, Orbitor, Castle dark ride, Oh Zone, and took some pics. Cute little park with some nice rides. Sadly I guess the Fly O Plane was removed. Lake Winnie is worth the stop if you're taking a trip from Dollywood to SFOG or vice versa. Its a cute old-school amusement park with a mildly thrilling old woodie And they got antique cars and other usual rides too Don't forget the Wacky Worm, hidden behind the carrousel and dark ride The parts of the park not over water are tucked away in the trees You don't get too wet though, and its old and historical or something, so its worth checking out if you're at the park Its pretty much a ride through a giant tin tunnel with no scenery, and then a splashdown into the lake I didn't know what to expect from the Boat Chute Lake Winnie's chairlift goes right over the water for the entire ride "I know I have a pizza on my head, I'm saving it for later!" A trainload of riders get ready for the Cannon Ball, which is a nice little woodie The Orbiter was running really good! The Carrousel is over water Hello Hersheypark's old Conestoga. I see you are closed, just like at Hershey I really like this brand of drop towers, it was a big hit with the park too, even though it doesn't have a queue yet Cannon Ball and the new Oh Zone drop tower Wild Lightnin' got its queue straight out of RCT This ride must have been the inspiration for Dinosaur. Lots of darkness and a random sound of something not working right in the blacklights. The pirate ship is right over the lake The round up looked pretty good Well, looks like we won't be staying long! Awesome! Apparently Jesus is here today, I can't wait to meet him So, here's Lake Winnie

Best Out and Back Coasters
DerekRx replied to PhillyGirl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Since you want to stick with steel, for quick weekend trips, I'd consider SFOG with Goliath, SFOT with Titan, Sea World Texas with Steel Eel, SFGAm with Raging Bull (its as out and back as Millennium Force or Goliath at SFMM), and Worlds of Fun with Mamba. Overseas you could do Europa and Holiday Park with Silver Star and Expedition GeForce, respectively. You can also add in Walibi World with its Goliath. That pretty much covers all the smooth steel out and backs overseas and here in the States. -
Great night pictures. Goliath is very photogenic, though its so spread out you can't really get a shot of the entire ride.

Kongfrontation or Mummy?
DerekRx replied to VekomaSucks1234's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kong was good for 1 ride, but after that it was pretty dull. I prefer the Mummy, more thrilling, has rerideability, and its a coaster! -

Coming back after Lake Winnie, and then some more fun on Sunday! Speaking of Goliath, it's off the chain. Go ride it! Scorcher has no line at 2pm, thanks in part to Goliath Monster Plantation is a fun old school darkride boat thing. Its another thing that makes SFOG unique today SFOG is one of the few US parks that still has a skyride, and uses it! Another signature shot Even if he has gone a little 'country' Batman is still awesome Signature Shot! And Mindbender is running great this season Gotham City has a wave swinger now that's themed nicely But for some random reason, they decided to close the ride, even though it wasn't broken right before we got on it Acrophobia also had no wait on Sunday morning, thanks to Goliath Sacrophobia, fear of testicles Wanna guess what this ride is about? But I have the credit, and I KNOW what this ride is about BACT is THRILLED to be riding Vu Finally I get my vertical loop shot Look at the awesome stairs they had to build for evac in a saddle But no wait made me mad...because I couldn't get a good shot of the vertical loop Luckily, the entire park was in Goliath's queue, meaning no wait for Vu. That's a first Sunday morning Deja Vu was running! Tim needed the credit Georgia Cyclone was a little rough in some spots where it bottoms out, but it was still delivering great airtime filled rides Tim is either thinking of Goliath or Georgia Cyclone while he's in the bathroom Hey, did you know SFOG has a new coaster called Goliath? It feels like a short first drop, but its good The great SLAM into the brakes from the final bunny pop And somehow this bunny hill is even taller than the lifthill! Goliath has a sweet forceful turnaround Woohoo, another credit! Hi, do you like airtime? These bunny hills deliver Intamin quality air

I won't really say too much about it, but overall the weekend was great. SFOG has moved its way up to be very close if not my favorite in the SF chain. Goliath is simply fantastic, not only the best B&M hyper, but also probably the best thing B&M has made since 1994. Its top 5 steel for me, air time abundant, fun location, and unlike other B&Ms as of late, its got forces. I didn't really think much of it going into the weekend, figured it was just local hype, but yes what they say is true, this ride is terrific! GO RIDE THIS THING! The event was great. The morning ERT didn't go so well due to the weather and a busted prox (probably from the storms the night before) but by the time I returned from Lake Winnie it was beautiful out again and the night time ERT was great. Mindbender is running better than ever, managed to get 5 rides in during ERT. Batman is as intense as ever, and Goliath is king. (I never thought I'd say "I love Goliath", it just sounds wrong. I guess I need to specify which one). Managed to get 17 rides in during ERT including the last ride of the night. I have to thank NitroJoeC for the riding tips and the enjoyment of seeing him make sweet love to Goliath. To everyone I saw there; Tommy and James, HomeyG, ParkTrips, CoasterCrazy, Memphish, Jarmor it was nice seeing you guys, sorry we didn't stay and hang. Maybe next year, because I know where I'll be next March. By the way, Goliath rocks, stop reading this and go ride it. B&M CAN do airtime! Don't drop your keys or cell phone in the lake Mindbender had its first brake reduced, but the big news is still that this ride has 3 loops! Goliath goes back into the park We decide the rain is annoying and we need to credit whore Lake Winnie, so we leave. But here you can see how tiny Scorcher looks now The GP is all here too, but they have to wait After a test run, the ride is opened for us Finally the rain passes the and second train is brought on the track Memphish and myself wonder where the nearest brew pub is Joe does some dealing while waiting for the inclement weather James has no butt Look! Its Tommy and James. No good can come of this meeting of the minds in the station while waiting for the rain to pass after the prox is fixed But Goliath is the reason I came to the event Luckily the rain stopped enough for us to ride Scream Machine, which was running nice. But a busted Prox Switch will, as all the ACErs find out while corraled here. Welcome to SFOG. Lite rain for the moment won't stop us from riding. Its hard to miss Goliath when you go into the park
