Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So Friday night/Saturday morning I was one of the first to experience Morey's Pier's Ghost Ship. Unfortunately, I was not able to get many good pictures. It was very crowded during the announcements so I could not get close to the stage, my camera is not great at night shots, pictures are not allowed inside the attraction. A little after 11:45 those which VIP Boarding Passes were allowed to enter Mariner's Landing Pier and were given a flashlight and Preview Booklet as keepsakes. As the crowds (I estimate 250-300 people) neared the attraction a couple of sideshow entertainers were there to work the crowd. After 15 minutes two members of the Morey family spoke to the crowd saying that Jack Morey would discuss the attraction in more detail soon. Pre-opening action alternated between the sideshow entertainer performances and a couple of characters appearing with Jack Morey to set the storyline. The characters included the wisecracking taskmaster of a captain, his bumbling engineer and a scientist from North Atlantic Paranormal Society trying to stop the Grand Opening until he could further investigate paranormal activity on the ship. In a nutshell, the Ingus Fatuus is a relic of the Philadelphia Experiment urban legend. The legend being that Einstein's theories were used during World War II in an attempt to make a ship invisible. Now we have a dilapidated ship that has irradiated residents aboard. The attraction is shoehorned under some of the water slides. Although I did not see the Ghost Ship in daylight, it is a very impressive sight at night. Personally, I was really looking forward to the ride, as the Jersey Shore used to be home to multiple walkthrough of a substantial nature, the Haunted Mansion at Long Branch and Brigantine Castle come to mind. In the end the attraction did not disappoint. It took about 15 minutes to walk through and the scare actors did a great job. Around 12:30 they started letting guests enter the queue as green smoke/fog was emanating from the ship (not sure if the smoke/fog was only for the preview event) Just as the attraction will normally operate, they let only 10 people in at a time (every 3-5 minutes) to keep groups separated to maximize surprises. The first room has a video introduction from a member of the Paranormal Society warning you about the ship and then you start your journey. Detailing inside the ship is excellent, not to the degree Universal Haunt Events with Easter Eggs, but Moreys is working with a much smaller budget. Some rooms have animatronics, some have live actors and some have both. Scare actors with props and shaker cans pop out from above, below and all sides when not utilizing drop windows. Some actors roam around, some are behind bars and some are able escape from their rooms just as you think you are safe. If I had to guess I would say they had 15-20 scare actors working last night. Air blasts, strobe lights, disorienting rooms also fit the bill of adding extra scare factor. Afterwards Morey's Pier had bottled water and appetizers set-up at no charge to snack on. My apologies for the quality and lack of quantity of the pictures. Crowds started gathering well before the announced 11:45 opening time. Don't believe everything you read. Not real fire nor toxic fumes, just special effects. One of the sideshow entertainers warming up the crowd. A blurry picture of the Paranormal scientist, bumbling engineer, gruff captain and Jack Morey doing their schtick. The fireeater's act allows me to capture the ride sign and the ship. Yes, they built the ship around the suspended sky gondola, but I don't recall the gondola being visible when you are doing the walk through. Green fog escaping from the ship. Exterior of the Ignis Fatuus Menu of the free appetizers provided. These are the Screaming Tuna Melts. The olives were arranged to make it look like a screaming face. -

Too bad you didn't make it to Nigloland as we haven't seen a PTR from there in years, but at least you were about to detour to another park, that has not been showcased on TPR in the past. -
Yeah, but that wasn't due to the water challenge! "Twincest"

Remember photos must be .jpg should not exceed 800x600 (Unfortunately, in the past many people have submitted photos that are too large for TPR to use or in pdf form.) High quality photos, please (not blurry, distorted or out of focus). Lastly, we are not adding kiddie rides or major upcharges at this time, but we are at the point where family rides such: transportation rides, carousels, ferris wheels and bumper cars are being added. We are also not adding FECs (Family Entertainment Centers) to the Park Index. And if you have to ability to scan your park maps, feel free to submit those for the years that all not already in the Park Index. Of course any PTRs containing superior photos or entertaining captions and a variety of pictures including multiple rides and areas. (Not just one or two rides/attractions) are always valued. Attention has been given to every previously submitted Photo TR. Don't feel discouraged if we can't include every one. Photo in your PTRs must be downloaded onto the Theme Park Review server (not Imageshack, photobucket) for it to be included in the Park Index, that way we know a Red X will never appear. Lastly, if you have photos of a non-kiddie ride that is not in TPR's Park Index, please submit that also. -
TPR's Ever Evolving Park Index
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hi there CoNNoR, we appreciate you submitting the photos of the park maps, but they are quite blurry and we normally only use park maps if they have been scanned in or the photo is of very high quality. If you have the ability to scan them, please do and attach that image to your post. But I don't think these are high enough quality for use in the park index. Larry? Any thoughts on the matter? --Robb Robb- agreed you echo the sntiments I have been PMing to Connor. He is going to try to obtain access to a scanner. -

First off my apologies, tonight my company softball team had one out to go to mercy rule the other team and we let in two runs. Therefore we had to play an extra inning. Why am I apologizing, because I lost 15 minutes to the encroaching night, so the pictures aren't the best, but here goes. Pictures taken 90 minutes ago at Luna Park. Construction was in full swing, at least 6 cranes on site working tonight. A lot of the cement has been poured and I saw more rides in place versus last week. The only rides I didn't see vertical construction started on were: Brooklyn Flyer (Star Flyer), Surf's Up, Coney Island Sound. However, just because I didn't see these rides, doesn't mean they weren't there. The Main Entrance Still a little work to do in the Wild River Kite Glider looks complete I can't figure out which ride's seats those are behind the storage shed. Air Race still needs some work The Luna Park symbol atop Eclipse. Beachy Shack, Shack, Shack, still needs to be moved into place and set-up. I'm confused about the cylindrical striped thing lying on it's side. It appears to be a slide, but a slide was not on the complete ride list that was published. Happy Swing, I think Guy has one of these in his bedroom! One of the better angles I could get of Lunar Express. Took this one of Lunar Express by holding my camera above the fence. Where is Casey when you need him? Tickets Booth sitting in the street ready to be craned into place.

Yes, that's something I forgot to include in my little diatribe. And one more rant, about the rebroadcasting of the shows in enhanced format. There were always subtitles added that were never trult confirmed when watching the original episode. For example, when they showed the pilot on Saturday night there was a subtitle saying the Jcaob and MiB were boen on the island and had been arguing for 2,000 years as soon in such and such episode. Never in the original series was it clearly stated when Claudia and her kind washed up on the island. That stuff always bothered me. But it's over now!

Moreys Piers Discussion Thread

As someone who grew up going to the Jersey Shore and being terrified with the Haunted Mansion at Long Branch, Brigantine Castle and numerous shorter walk thrus at Seaside Heights with scare actors I'm very much looking forward to this. I really want this attraction to succeed and didn't understand the magnitude of the project until this article. -
It takes some time to create and edit the ads and negotiate with the networks for use of ABC (LOST) intellectual property so very confident that the creative was planned for a while. It is quite possible that Michael Emerson was paid a fee to plug Target on the Late Show, but it could be a coincidence also.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
caveat emptor - the headbanging (or neckbanging) I experienced on both Tornado at Bakken and i305 at Kings Dominion was caused by riding with my hands up. On both coasters when I rode again with my hands on the restraints the headbanging was neutralized. Your upper body will shift if you don't stabilize yourself on coasters with forceful "twisty and spinny" parts. -
What is your favorite launch coaster?
larrygator replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I merged this with an existing thread -
^Well take into account that thread is a train wreck and finding a good thread from someone comparing the two experiences is difficult. Someone made a really good comparison over the weekend. I tried to find that post this morning. I waded through 15 pages of crappy posts and never found the post I was looking for.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm glad someone brought this up again as my days in Physics Class were over 25 years ago, but that was what I remember. This same argument came up when they slowed down the chain lift on El Toro and hundrerds of rides later I still feel no difference on the El Toro drop. -
There was a SCAD Tower at Tivoli Friheden?????
-
^Yep, I tried watched Kimmel afterwards (but was dosing in and out) and I forgot about Kimmel pointing that out. Which just brings up another problem. Why couldn't the fact that it was "Jack's show" be stated more clearly on LOST and not on Kimmel. If I have to go around the internet still trying to piece stuff together after the finale, I am disappointed.
-
Why does the show end with Jack closing his eyes and then everybody meeting up in this so called purgatory? Clearly people live longer than Jack, I guess that's one of my big problems with the ending (Jack dying and everyone gathers in the afterlife) besides all the untied knots. Looking back I don't think there could have been an ending that I would have been happy with, but I was still hoping for one. If the show had ended without the whole gathering at the church I would have been happy. Or if they had congregated in the basement of the church and it was the Lamp Post and Eloise had some explanation that my mind could never comprehend.
-
I would have liked it to end without the lame everyone meets again in the alterna/after life and realizes they know else other. I liked the Jack/Locke battle and the use of Desmond on the island. But would have preferred an ending with the Ajira plane being blown out of the sky for invading North Korean airspace over this.

Comprehensive Coaster Credit Conversation
larrygator replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A credit is just the de facto terminology that coaster nerds/geeks/dorks/enthusiasts use to keep track of the number of coasters they have ridden. The first time you rode Wicked Twister, you were credited with riding that coaster. If you ride 20 new coasters on a road trip, that's 20 new credits. People in the real world would say they rode 20 new coasters, but we call them credits.
