40 Random Questions [2020 Off-Season Edition]
Zand replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We've been doing this for like 5 years now, so you know the drill. 1. How many parks did you visit in 2019? 7 Cedar Point' Moreys Piers BG Williamsburg Kings Dominion SF Great Adventure Dollywood SFNE 2. Best new-for-2019 (or new-to-you-in-2019) ride? Don't think I rode anything new for 2019, but new to me was positively Lightning Rod. 3. Name the first 3 coasters that come to mind. Lightning Rod Runaway Tram Flitzer 4. What was the best flat ride you rode in 2019? Morey's Screaming Swing 5. What is your favorite RMC under 130 feet? (cheat sheet) Twisted Timbers 6. What was the last Premier coaster that you rode? Tempesto 7. Name a park you've been to that you're already planning to revisit. Dollywood (one ride on Lightning Rod before its daily catastrophic failure wasn't enough) 8. What is your home park and how many times did you visit in 2019? SFNE - two 9. What park are you most looking forward to visiting in 2020? Magic Mountain 10. Kennywood or Dollywood? Pick one Love Kennywood, but how can anyone possibly pick it over Dollywood? 11. What ride/coaster disappointed you the most in 2019? Of anything new to me, probably Mystery Mine. Took my boots off by mistake. 12. You're at Great Adventure. You play that racist-ish gong game and win a one hour ERT session for you and your friends on ONE coaster of your choice. But damn! El Toro, Kingda Ka and Nitro are all down! So you ride... Batman 13. What is the last coaster that changed your top 10? Lightning Rod (new #1 wood) and Intimidator 305 (new #3 steel) 14. Most recent park food you ate. BACON WRAPPED PORK KABOBS!!!! 15. What park do you wish was your home park? Knoebels 16. What 2020 attraction do you have the biggest boner for? Jersey Devil 17. What park will you visit next? Quite possibly Lagoon, planning my SLC ski trip in April this year so I can finally check it out. 18. Favorite breakfast before a day at a park? Rare for me to eat breakfast although I always stop for a chicken biscuit at Sheetz whenever I'm in PA. 19. Cedar Fair park you visited most recently? Kings Dominion 20. Was it awesome? Of course. 21. Skyrush or Candymonium? I want Candymonium to win the plurality here so Skyrush has a shorter line. 22. What 2 overseas parks do you want to visit the most? Not sure how to narrow it down to two...maybe Holiday Park and Liseberg? 23. The best B&M coaster you rode in 2019 was? Nitro 24. What is the saddest/dirtiest credit whore thing you've ever done? Honestly I'm not the "ride a kiddie coaster just for the credit" type person so not sure I have a crazy enough story for this one. Does going to Delgrosso's just for the spinning mouse credit (and then realizing it was Wednesday so of course it was worth the trip) count? 25. Last time you bought fast pass? Cedar Point 2018 (9 rides on Steel Vengeance that day, worth it) 26. What was the longest you waited for a ride/coaster in 2019? I'm sure I waited over an hour for Steel Vengeance in May but I did a good job avoiding crowds overall this year. 27. What season passes/membership do you currently have? Six Flags 28. If you could go to a park with anyone on this forum for a day who would it be and to what park? Robb somewhere in Japan because I'd have no idea how to do anything if I ever went there. 29. Battle of the Busch 2020: Iron Gwazi or Pantheon - which would you rather ride? Iron Gwazi 30. Most times you've ridden one coaster (rough estimate or exact if you're a super nerd) Superman SFNE (had a count like 17 years ago but then I grew up,..kinda). Must be around 300 by now. 31. Congrats! You just won passes to spend A WEEK at the park of your choice! Dorney Park or Valley Fair? Pick one and why. Dorney Park because Demon Drop. 32. Talk about a park food that knocked your socks off Most recently: the Bacon Wrapped Pork Kabobs at Great Adventure. Anything at Dollywood. 33. Pick one: Kumba or Montu Sadly neither one yet. 34. What are your three least favorite woodies? Wildcat (Lake Compounce), Twisted Twins (good riddance), Predator 35. Best sweet snack at a park (degree of difficulty: not Dollywoods cinnamon bread) Bavarian Pretzel from the place next to Verbolten 36. Kings Island is on the phone and they want you to decide what is going in the old Vortex spot. What do you add? A real giga coaster....JK, but an RMC would round them out nicely. 37. What roller coaster currently sits at the top of your bucketlist? (degree of difficulty: NOT a new-for-2020 ride) The aforementioned Kumba and Montu. 38. Name 3 parks you want to visit in the next 3 years. BG Tampa, SFMM, Carowinds 39. Name 3 other forum members you hope fill this out. In lieu of 3 people filling this out, I'd like a funny video of a rough coaster from Robb and a TR from Coasterbill. The first thing already happened, I might win a million bucks tonight...what was the other thing again? 40. Show us how cool you are by posting a picture of yourself on a coaster or in front of coaster. Bonus points if you're holding a sign with a number on it like the nerd you are. There's a picture of me on SFNE Cyclone on its last day of operation, not sure where it is. Other than that I don't have one. I'm at 198 now, so when I ride my 2nd new coaster this spring there sure won't be a picture of me holding a sign that says 200 -
What parks are you visiting in 2020?
Zand replied to VF15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This past year was good by my standards Cedar Point Morey's Piers Kings Dominion BGW Great Adventure SFNE Dollywood This year I hope to get to SFMM, Knott's, Disneyland, Lagoon, and BGT for the first time. Closer to home, on top of many days at SFNE and Great Adventure, I would like to get back to Lake Compounce and Canobie for the first time in a while as well as maybe finally check out Great Escape and Funtown/Splashtown for the first time. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Zand replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If it involves Nitro or chocolate my wife is all for it. Combine the two and she pretty much wants to move to Harrisburg. For the rest of us Snow Mako is probably a better descriptor. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Zand replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The best part is that, despite having similar stats, they will have drastically different ride experiences. One for the mild enthusiasts, and another that should be illegal and not allowed to exist in America. Candymonium will be a great ride I'm sure, especially if Mako is any indication that B&M's newer hypers are their best. With that being said, if I ever make it back to Hersheypark sometime soon, it will be to ride Skyrush again. That ride is unreal. A B&M hyper is great, but one that takes the attention away from said somehow legal insane Intamin hyper right next to it is even better. People will eat up the less intense B&M (I told my wife Hershey is building "chocolate Nitro" and she said book the room now) so hopefully lots of walk ons are in order at Skyrush this year. -
I don't know how I never found this thread before today but between park trips plus me being an avid skier that flys out to Utah and Colorado once or twice a winter, I know realize I've pissed away thousands of dollars I'll never get back. The only "rewards" programs I belong to are True Blue (and hotels.com if you count that) and obviously AAA. I clearly have a lot of studying to do.

Did anyone make it for the last couple days? We got another blast of sleet and freezing rain goodness on Monday and Tuesday. Noticed Batman, Thunderbolt, and Pandy were closed on the app as were other rides. Sucks for the park that they got 3 or 4 storms of this crap. Even after a sunny day in the 40s today there's still 3 inches of rock solidness because it doesn't melt.

Yup, and I still have such a bad taste in my mouth from that SFGAm visit that I just can't even go back! We followed all of the rules and you made my young child get booed by strangers?!!? Screw that park and those employees. On that same trip SFGAd gave KT a wristband and a name tag to make up for that other park experience and she had a great time riding everything! <> With the Nitro situation yesterday, the kid was clearly too short when they came around to measure with the stick. But he kept standing against the sign (with the green and red sections) and was good on that. The ride op kept telling the guy to go to the front of the park and get a wristband. Sucks for the guy that there's two different variations of 54" but at the same time I understand the stance of the op. On the other hand, if you have the wristband and they still won't let you ride, then that's just poor communication and a bad measuring job when they make the sticks. In that case the wristband should be enough unless it's really egregious.

We were there. There were also 2 other people in the park who looked remarkably like us who we later found out might be serial killers. You had a 50/50 shot. I'm glad I made it home alive then I'd enjoy sharing a beer if I run into you guys again. Feel like it would be an entertaining few minutes at the very least. I realized on the drive home that I got more days at GADV this year than at SFNE. Hard to explain to most people why I voluntarily drove down to New Jersey 3 times in 6 months. And those trips will only increase when Devil gets up and running.

Hit the park 1-4 today. Solo ride in front row of Green Lantern to start the day, actually had a nice ride on it. Small crowd early but picked up toward sunset. No Nitro marathon as the station had people in it, mainly due to some guy whose kid was an inch too short to ride so he argued with the ops for 5 minutes until they called security. He then gave up, sat down, and made his small kid take the walk of shame alone lol. Think I saw Coasterbill and Boldikus at one point but in the interest of it possibly not being them I didnt want to be that guy who walks up to someone and it's not even them. But you guys should know that I always check your TRs before going to a park for food and beverage advice and the bacon wrapped pork kabobs might be the best find yet. Literally sticks of heaven. You guys should be on travel channel instead of Guy Fieri because your food reviews are always spot on. Onto the offseason...my next coaster rides might be in Cali for the first time, pretty pumped about that.

Here right now...in the 40s and no crowd. Perfect. Was in the park 6 to 9 tonight. Longest line I waited in was 2 cycles for Wonder Woman. Got a 9 lap marathon on Nitro in the final 45 minutes without leaving the station. Couldn't fit on Batman with my winter coat so only one cold ride on that. Sky Screamer was terrific above the lit trees. I'll be back tomorrow until about 5.

With all that closed the least they could do is open Tornado and hand everyone a tube. And a waiver. In all seriousness they usually do a good job getting things open here too but last weeks storm was a couple inches of snow, then a few hours of freezing rain and then more snow. And then Arctic air for a few days made the snow hard as a rock. If it was stuck to any tracks, it wasnt coming off without a lot of work.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
Zand replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I heard they're trading Phoenix to Lakemont Park for Toboggan. -
Last time I rode it, it spun moderately and then spun fast the other way for about 5 or 6 swings when it was at max height. Now it spins at that max speed for a good minute but like I said, nowhere close to as high as it used to get. Haven't been on Canobies in a long time either but from what I remember they both spin at about the same speed. Park is closed today so turns out yesterday was the de facto closing day. Glad I got that last Superman ride in.
-
Yeah...walked up there around 9:30 and the line was almost full. Wouldve been a long wait with one train. It was nice that they put a sign out front explaining that this was occurring. Did get a Superman ride later on tonight. Line died down to the final set of switchback, although had a very quick breakdown and then had to deal with exit passes almost every train. It was hauling tonight for sure. Rode some of the older flats for the first time in years. Got a nice long cycle on Crime Wave. Rode Kontiki for the first time in many years, was very surprised at how smooth it is tracking. Glad theyre taking care of it considering 98% of the park patrons have no idea its even there. Also first time on Tomahawk in many years. Its almost laughable how low to the ground it stays now, but at least they run it at max spin for a good while.

What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
Zand replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Admittedly it's been 10 years since I rode Boulder Dash so my opinion would likely be much worse if I rode it now, but when it was at its glory Boulder Dash at night was pretty much unbeatable, even by Phoenix. And then when it was over you could reride it instead of calling 911 for your new rib injury or because you just railroaded the train coming off the transfer track. -

This needs a headphone warning lol
