IAAPA Euro Attractions Show Report
andyuk200523 replied to milst1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awesome TR so far, I love looking around the IAAPA type shows, great stuff! -
What the park explained to me at one point is that in order for the ride to be installed at the park, a section of track from both spikes needed to be removed to comply with planning permission. The ride had to be shut down for 2-3 hours each day because as it warmed up, it got a bit faster and started to get closer to the end of the spike! (I'm not making this up!) So the coaster had an operating schedule that was usually something like 10am - 12pm, then 2pm - 4pm. (If memory serves correctly) It was a real annoyance to have one of the parks "star attraction" closed mid-day. And often times this ride had a 30-45 minute line, so that really meant that you could only line up for it between 10am - 11:15am. I understand that as being the main cause for it's removal. --Robb I always thought that the reason it had limited operational times was due to the noise it created for the holiday park and local houses, the launch was pretty noisy, then I thought it was removed due to increased operating costs and Flamingo Land wanting to have a ride in its place that they could operate all day for increased traffic flow. That was very interesting Robb, thanks for posting that tid-bit!

Walygator Parc Discussion Thread

I hope they are at least going to paint it before they construct it at Walygator! Nothing better than opening a new ride which is already a bit rusty! -
On the 18th of this month, I was at Wembley Stadium for the 2nd to last Coldplay concert of their Viva La Vida tour. It was awesome! Support by White Lies, Girls Aloud (mmmm, good to look at, but thats about it) and Jay Z (actually pretty good) I love going to concerts at Wembley, the atmosphere of enjoying music in a stadium with about 80,000 other music lovers is great fun, anyone else seen Coldplay live?

Alton Towers Discussion Thread

Would it be safe to assume from this photo that the straight section of track on the right is the station track? Just looking at the circular holes, they kinda look like they will hold tyre drive motors? http://gallery.towersalmanac.com/displayimage.php?album=540&pos=12 -
Vekoma Builds Big Air Coaster
andyuk200523 replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is probably the prototype coaster which was at the factory in the Netherlands, It was built years ago so probably got sold at a discount price! Good on someone to buy it though, it has always looked like a fun ride! -
I remember following Monte Makaya's construction back in the day through First Drop, the ECC's magazine, I kind of wish Collosus had the final Helix rather than the 2 extra in-lines, althought it is cool for it to be a record breaker, although the helix would be more fun than the pointless in-lines! Nice setting for the ride too.

Awesome layout, and for all the fanboys...B&M have broken the 230ft barrier!!!! -
In a day would be Rock 'n' Rollercoaster at (as it was then) MGM Studios, Orlando - 29 times (it was either 29 or 26, cannot remember exactly) In my lifetime, Nemesis at Alton Towers - well over 350 times between 2000 and 2006, ahhh the joys of having friends working on the fastrack queuing system back when it was free Really must get back to Alton Towers soon, I miss the original sooo much!!!

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I am surprised that with a 300ft drop into a high speed ground hugging turnaround we are not seeing 90 degrees!!! Design looks good though, seriously Mega-Lite similarities throughout, this will definately be a rival to MF. -

^^ Thank You, at least someone understood me! Another way of explaining it.... I work in the electrical retail industry, selling TV's and Washing Machines etc.... For example, Samsung do 7 different series of LCD's and Plasma, so what exactly would the difference be between a 40" Full HD 5 series and a 40" Full HD 6 Series???? Not a great deal, 100Hz, and Internet TV Widgets being the primary ones, but essentially it is the same TV, so why does it cost £250 more than the 5 series? Because it is a different product from the manufacturer, Samsung decide to sell it as such, so therefore it is. B&M class the Floorless as a different coaster than the sit-down, so therefore it is! -

The idea of a Floorless Train is more terrifying than a floored one, a Floorless Coaster is a completely different type of coaster than a standard sit down one, B&M have said this themselves in early interviews, the idea of az floorless coaster was to create a type similar to an inverted coaster, but to not have the track above you. Check this link out, proof it was not a train change for the sit down coaster, otherwise it would not be listed as a seperate product. http://www.bolliger-mabillard.com/products/products_en.aspx Originally a Dive Coaster had 8 across seating, they then reviewed the situation and on further coasters used a 10 across seating pattern, then converted it to a floorless, all further dive coasters will have a 10 across seating arrangement, they would not go back to an 8 across seating arrangement, because that is moving back in technology, not forwards. the typical 4 across Hyper train design is old technology, the idea of the V design train is to give everyone the feeling of being near to the edge of the train, it is moving forwards in technology, they will keep this design until a newer better design is discovered. It would be like Nokia going back to the 3210 mobile because it was more reliable and easier to use than the latest mobiles, it will never happen, because that would be moving backwards in technology! *edited to add link* -

I can 100% guarantee it will feature the latest trains, as they are the Mk2 versions, why would a company spend money developing a better experience then revert back to the older design?! That would be like BMW spending millions on a new version of the M3 car then building last years version instead! -
The temperature doesn't very often reach 29 degrees in the UK. Tomorrow is forecast to hit 29 making the hottest day of the year so far. Is it a general idea by Australians that the British don't know how to maintain personal hygiene? I find that rather insulting and I'd be even more insulted to be escorted off of a ride if someone complained about BO on a clearly (by UK standards) a hot day. As said earlier, your on the ride for 2-3 minutes. DEAL WITH IT! Lets not turn this topic into a flame war between Australia and the UK, I put the post up for information reasons and to have a laugh, not to start a war!

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1207324/Theme-park-bans-thrillseekers-riding-rollercoasters-arms-air--body-odour.html I can understand to a certain extent, it certainly isn't nice sitting next to someone who requires a shower, but at the same time, a bit harsh to escort them off, just escort them to tidal wave! That'll sort out the problem! Either that or have some complimentary cans of Lynx Anti Perspirant hanging about the station platforms! lol

How did you get your screen name?

Well, my name is Andrew - hence Andy. I live in the UK - hence UK In 2005 I turned 23, hence 200325 I was signing up for a few forums back in 2003 and I guess I am just used to typing it now. -
Where in the world are the interpreters now???
andyuk200523 replied to aslinterpreter's topic in Random, Random, Random
I'm gonna guess at Tailand possibly for the great temples? (great beaches too!) -
I have been searching, but haven't found anything else to be honest, I don't want to post smally parts of documentaries, am trying to just post the entire program, It is a real shame that some of the ones on US sites cannot be viewed in the UK, really want to watch some of them. I am constantly on the search for them though, as soon as I find them they will be in here.

All older wooden coasters still operate without computer controlled block sections, but normally in that case they don't have 2 trains running at the same time, normally in my opinion they would not send the 2nd train off until the 1st one was in view on the final run, this has got to be part operator error and part machine error (i.e.) possibly a loose wheel which resulted in reduced speed on the hills ending up with a valleying situation on top of a hill? Just speculation at the moment, but considering not a single computer control on the ride, pretty much the only scenario I can see! I hope everyone who has ended up in hospital recovers quickly and that it is a problem that the solution is easily installed, would be such a shame to loose one of the worlds best classic woodies.
