Nice TPR. The Jurassic Park Jeep Ride dinos look like the ones from the train ride that transports you all around Disneyland lol. And it does look like half the park is rotting. And do they even care for those monkeys? I'm no animal rights activist, but havent they looked at some real zoos around the world or Disney's Animal Kingdom and see how they care for their monkeys? Besides that was the zoo any good, other than chained up angry mistreated monkeys? I have a question concerning Vekomas: are they the least expensive rides to build, and is that why new parks or parks that are slowly growing have them as their main attractions? Because I know with Vekoma's bad reputation that many roller coaster enthusiasts would prefer a B&M, an Intamin, or a GCI coaster over a Vekoma, but the parks whose TPRs i've read that are located outside of the US and Britain all have Vekomas as their main attractions except for Warner Bros. Madrid (is it?) and a few Japanese parks. And a more general question: Does anyone on here know how much Intamins, B&Ms, and GCIs cost? I know it depends on the roller coaster being built, but I'm just curious.

I was about to say somethig like that-it must depend on the tallest point of the loop and where the track leaves the ground (such as the loops of floorless coasters like Dominator), not on if thetrain goes up a hill and then a loop like Viper. -

Here's an interesting commercial for Dominator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja-wSaRjCuc I got a question: i thought Viper at SFMM had the tallest loop? They must be measureing the size of the loop itself and not any hills the train goes up before making the loop. I would appreciate any help on this, because Iam a bit confused. here is also a video of a reporter on Dominator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3hlfFr_rYs&NR=1 -

I wish it was ALWAYS like that in every park you go. But that'll never happen, except on a few days. That Intamin looks great, and so do the other parks and coasters you and your family have visited! Which was your particular favorite (park and coaster) from the trip? -

coasterking2981 replied to FlyerACE1's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
As far as I know the Dark Knight is Six Flags ONLY extensively theme ride, while rides like Riddler's Revenge and Batman at SFMM and other parks just have a station and queline theme. Crush Coaster may not be as themed as Disney usually has, but Disney has Expedition Everest, Rock n' Roller coaster, and others that are better themed than Crush Coaster or Dark Knight. So, no, Six Flags doesnt have Disney beat in the terms of theming. In tems of thrills and coasters, though, it does. Six Flags are indeed, in general, great parks, but they need more family rides and need to shoot for a Disney kind-of style when they decide to theme their rides. -

I can agree on the expenses- after all, Universal Studios, Paramount (do they still own any parks or does Cedar Point own them now?) and Disney, as they are movie companies as well as amusement parks, are really the only companies that can fall back on one of their two industries (movies and theme parks) should one of their companies, either the amusement park or movie one, fall short of money. But, first of all, SFMM needed X. Riddler's Revenge and Goliath were pretty much the best rides at SFMM until X came along and became the park's signature coaster. As far as I can recall, X had very few problems (but I'm probably wrong), but they were mainly with the parts of the train that all it to rotate 360 degrees. As for the other rides mentioned, Six Flags doesnt really own anything outside of its parks, unlike Universal and Disney. The only thing Six Flags can do for its theming are those of the DC comics like the Dark Knight and Superman, whereas Universal can just make rides based on its own movies, while Disney can also do the same thing as well as put a story behind every ride they have, and spending thousands, if not millions, into the extensive theming of their rides. So really, all those rides that cost the Six Flags parks so much are kind of needed, because they pretty much got nothing else to put themselves on the map. -

True that, but he seems to be taking Six Flags in a whole new direction for the benefit of all of the parks owned by Six Flags. There are at least 3 to 4 (or more) parks that have just received a new coaster, getting a new coaster (like EvelKnieval at Six Flags St. Louis), reopening an improved coaster (X, now X2 at SFMM) and/or getting some attractions for the little ones, like Tomas the Tank Engine. And cant forget the other recent additions within the past few years, like Kingda Ka and El Toro at SFGAdv. -

Wow. If only SFMM had such well themed rides like that! If the rumors of a new coaster at SFMM are true, fingers crossed for a dark ride coaster like The Dark Knight! -

The first park seems nice, but is it honestly Disney? Because it doesnt seem to have the Disneyish look like Walt Disney World or Disneyland. The second park though is REALLY NICE! That's some beautiful scenery and great theming! Just curious though, the first coaster you see upon entering the park (the mine train) is a Vekoma right? And is Vekoma the only company that designs and builds mine train roller coasters? -

The loop was built in Germany for testing. The loop was then moved to Magic Mountain and the rest of the ride was built. Building rides at the factory is something that still goes on. The most recent examples that pop into my head is Hypersonic which ran for several years at the S&S factory, and a small portion of the 4D coaster at the Arrow factory. In a slightly unrelated question, does anybody know if that segment of the 4D coaster at the Arrow plant ended up being part of X, or is it still there? Thanks. ANd i'm pretty sure the part they used to test X in the Arrow factory is the segment after the lift chain but before the first drop- where the train disengages from the lift hill i think. I dont know, I might be wrong. -
We all have our favorite roller coasters, true, so this is a random but curious question I have. What is YOUR favorite STAND-UP STEEL roller coaster (Riddler's Revenge, Mantis, etc.)? And please provide a short explanation, if you will. Also, can you provide a picture for any who have not seen and/or ridden the said stand-up coaster? For me, its Riddler's Revenge, mostly because its the ONLY stand-up steel coaster I've been on. But beside that, other than Batman, Tatsu, Ninja, and Superman, RR is SFMM's only extremely themed ride (Viper and Goliath dont really count because while they are themed they outside of their stations, quelines, and a few random objects, they arent very well themed). Also, RR to me seems like its one of the better rides at SFMM and one of B&M's better, more innovative designs (correct me if it wasnt designed by B&M). For any of you have never seen and/or ridden RR, this is RR probably taken from the Sky Tower or now the musuem of the park's interesting history.

I am pretty sure it was moved from Germany. The Loop portion of the ride was set up in the Germany plant and all testing was done there. It was then disassembled and transported to Magic Mountain and constructed there. Thanks. So is SFMM's Revolution right in its claim about it being the first modern coaster with a successful loop? just curious -

What is the name of the wooden coaster? is it Great White, or am I thinking of a different park with a wooden coaster by that name? -

So is SFMM's Revolution a clone or was it moved there from Germany? Wow, roller coaster really have come a long way. The loop and the corkscrew were all the rage back then. Now we got Immelman's, Cobra Rolls/Boomerangs, heartline twists- pretty much any inversion one can name there at at least 10 to 20 or more coasters out there that have it. Nice pictures and article btw. -
its definitely not a major attraction, but if any Disney Park needs any form of attraction, such as Toy Story Mania, its definitely California Adventure. At the very least it'll attract more guests there than before hopefully. I dont think anyone was expecting anything of this, other than its Disney, so its got to be somewhat of an enjoyable ride. The carnival theming (sort of) is kinda nice after all.

I have a question: Why does Vekoma have a reputation for building very painful rides? I've been on Deja Vu here at SFMM, and I must say it isnt too painful for me. Is it because of the type of track Vekoma uses on its rides, laong with its compactness? Anyway, nice TR. Egypt looks like it could use a few Intamins, GCIs and/or B&Ms in its parks though. Are there any rides you went on that you think some U.S. parks here should have? That Jurassic Park-style ride is pretty funny looking lol -
Ok, I am completely unaware of any topics about this new wooden coaster, so please forgive me if its already a topic. I think its going to be a great coaster personnally, and I can only hope SFMM will get a new wooden coaster similiar to this one or El Toro. http://www.sixflags.com/stLouis/rides/constructionphotos.aspx I'll post only a few photos (Rob, Elissa, and any other TPR staff memebers, can you help me with readjusting the size of the pictures to make them bigger?) For any of you who dont know, this wooden coaster is being built at Six Flags St. Louis. Reminds me a bit of Ghostrider at Knotts, though I doubt Evel Knievel will be anywhere near as painful.
