Discovery Channel Needs YOUR help!
Nrthwnd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Expedition: Everest - Disney has consistently taken the coaster and themed it with atmosphere and effects that separate it from others. And this one is the Matterhorn / Big Thunder Mtn. on steroids! The Voyage - an out-and-back...and then some. What you can't see in total, is a very good thing. (i.e. Beast) Speed Monster - European parks are keeping up with the US ones with good inovative coasters, steel and wood - and this is definitely one of The Biggies for next year. -

Well, there's always ebay for some of these things.... -
CHEESECAKE! I make a killer New York-style cheesecake, which takes over three hours to prep and steam. The faves seem to be my chcocolate and pumpkin ones. Then there's the citrus cc, the white chocolate and cranberrries cc.... need I go on?

I'm happy right now, 'cause my cat Camille has decided to curl up here on my big desk, beside me, while I type, type type away, heh heh. She's great, and a very cool cat to share space with.

^ Eggplant casserole!!!! How could I forget that! Thanks, Slushie. (And Snowmen House of Horrors there, too )

Favorite Water Ride
Nrthwnd replied to SFMM rocks my socks's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Three come to mind. First is one of The First to make flumes interesting, and that's the old log ride at Knott's. Always enjoyed the little 'tour' outside and then the surprise fall into the middle of the 'hill.' This is a scenic log ride, pre-Splash Mountain, yes? Second one was Maelstrom at the Norway pavillion, EPCOT. The first to use reverse flume travel, too, hmmm? Yes? And a bit of the downslope into the finale, hmm? Liked that, too. And I always got a kick out of DL's Splash Mtn. with the 'coaster dip' before Brer Bear encountering the "bees". Buzz buzz buzz buzz...... -
I STILL have some comic strips cut out from C&H. Awesome! Snow monsters and the Snowmen's House of Horrors was always The Best, IMO. "Liver tonight?" "Yes, how'd you guess?" "Oh, I dunno...."

My first reaction to this - after checking out three of the mentions was, "hmmm, quite the TPR Update I'd say". Hey - it's all good for sending some poor lonely non-TPR souls over to... us??? -
Six Flags Astroworld Video.

I got to AW only once, in '92. And fell in love with UltraTwister and XLR8, the best (IMO, at that time) suspended coaster I'd been on. Thanks for the video look, Robb. And - Do The Dance, Do The Dance. Robb IS the DanceMAN! -
Great TR Phishy! Wow, mini-bars have so changed since last time I hotelled anywhere, lol! Wtf was that on the top shelf there? With a knock-off Delftware Paris....thing? Amazing...

And who knew that laundry dryer sheets and insect repellent could be so easily combined???

The "Say Happy BDAY to your fellow users" Thread
Nrthwnd replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
There are so many of you on this site with birthdays already listed, I thought I would do something different for this day, today (just after 'my' midnight here)... This is a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the roller coaster men and women, guys and gals who we don't know, yet. These are the ones who have a birthday today, but the rest of us just don't know it, yet, LOL. Have a great day today, and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest. -
Friend of mine (and many many others here in town) died last Tuesday of AIDS. Only 37 years old. The memorial's next Sunday (18th), day after our end-of-summer hot tub party, at one of the bars he used to DJ at. Life sucks, when you think the *&$%#$*& disease has gotten almost everybody you've known in your life... and then, this still happens. rant end.

"Signature" Coasters
Nrthwnd replied to imbordisux's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Vancouver's Coaster is still hanging in there, after over 45 years on the planet. Come to think of it - 50th Birthday coming up in 2008. And for a compact wooden twister coaster, it still gives a good amt. of air time, speed and general MMMMMMMM in it's run, heh heh. And we're only 141 miles north of Seattle, everybody! -
Just saw "The Grudge" on a movie channel --- eh. I'm sure it would have worked (maybe) better for me in a movie theatre, but still --- eh. :? I got it, but still.

Disney Attraction Playsets
Nrthwnd replied to ECZenith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I got the Pirates/Caribbean vehicle w/Goofy and a pirate, in DLP back in '02. There was also, tho I couldn't understand why back then, the Buzz Lightyear die cast vehicles. Then last fall, I couldn't find any of them at the Village shops in DLP. Those were great little collecting toys. -
^ Can we quote you on that, when we contact you in the afterlife? ... Eventually? ...

Looks like we're eating Thai tonight, for dinner at home.

Why is it called Stork's? (Inquiring minds want to know....)

^ Don't worry about seeing this animation of EE ahead of it's opening. By the way, it's a pretty good rep of the whole thing. I've seen earlier pix of the framework and tracking inside the mountain. And from what I saw, the track layout when the train re-enters the mtn.after the helix, doesn't exactly go a straight line to the outside spiral there. And the spiral shown is actually a bit backwards. The train comes straight out and then dives into the spiral. Then again - it could all be the other way around, hee hee hee. There's still a lot not shown in the animation, track-wise. So the actual inside layout is a safe mystery... for now.
