Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Doing everything isn't ever really in our agenda. We just like to ride whatever we want whenever we want. The people we're going with are smart with their money. If we're not skipping a lot of time off of the lines, they'll likely be pretty unimpressed, to say the least... I just don't want there to be any moments of "Wtf we bought these $100 passes and wasted our money, because there are no lines." From what you describe about them, I would just wait to see how the night goes before purchasing. I'm planning to be there Friday night. Too bad I'll just miss you guys, but I can at least report how busy it is on Friday and hope it might be at least somewhat representative of Saturday night. -

^^^^Saturdays during Haunt were definitely a lot busier than Fridays and could get crazy, but I can't speak to FL+ being worth it or not for you guys. Are you trying to do all the Haunt mazes too? Nothing was different when we rode MT a week ago. I think if they were going to change it, they would have marketed that. Maybe Timbers is too new this year but they will change it up during Haunt in the future when it's gotten more "old" to people. -
No, but I'm only missing 3 and hopefully next year I'll get to ride those as well as the new ones! Yes, it's ambitious. Did you make it to all the theme parks you had anticipated at the start of the year?

I honestly wasn't expecting them to open any coasters. If they had to only choose one, I'm glad they chose Mystic Timbers. It's a solid ride and it makes the most sense (good for families while still thrilling). Of course wish there could be more open, but I'm still glad to have some more time to ride Timbers this year! But I'll also be planning a Dollywood trip as well -
Game: When was the last time you...

If readings count, then today. If by work you mean last time I produced something of my own, then last week. When was the last time you felt uncomfortable in a social situation? -
No, but I've ridden a good majority in California and Ohio. I think I have all the "major" coasters in CA besides some of the random kiddie coasters, Legoland, and some of the roadside theme parks (Freeway coaster?). Ohio there's a few more which are mostly obscure kiddie coasters or coasters I'm too big to ride. I've ridden a good chunk in Florida too but I've still got a few big ones left to ride. Great question! Have you ridden all the US versions of a certain type of coaster? (i.e. all SLCs, all B&M hypers, all Batman clones)

Am I the only one that finds the personification of coasters kinda creepy? Calling Steel Vengeance 'SteVen' is just strange to me...to each their own I suppose... I've called Maverick "Mavvie", and Magnum "Maggie", and MF "Millie" for years (haven't started calling Valravn "Val" yet though...), but I'm not feeling "SteVen" at all, sorry to say... I might take to calling it "SVen" ("SVennie"), but the other just seems odd for a coaster to me... Too... human, or something! (Not that there aren't humans named Maggie, but for whatever reason it seems more odd to me...) Why not Vallie? -
Robb & Elissa in the USA - 2017!
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great report! I visited SFSTl for the first time a few days after you all did. My boyfriend grew up around the park and is definitely a fanboy, and especially a Boss fanboy. I wasn't sure what to expect after him overhyping it, and while it didn't blow me completely away, I was definitely pleasantly surprised. I don't think it needs RMC treatment per se, but I would definitely be in favor if they did. I would just hope Six Flags preserves the layout and length as much as possible. Unfortunately, we didn't get to ride Excaliber and I really wish we had. I was starting to feel some heat exhaustion and that ride looked like the last thing I wanted to ride with the headache and dizziness I was already feeling. Maybe next time. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how well-rounded and put together the park was. At some points I forgot we were even at a Six Flags. I definitely think this park is underrated. It could use a stellar new coaster to put it back on the map, but I wouldn't say it's a bad park. -
If I had to choose, I'd say October, because I love the Haunt/Halloween season. So yes? Did you love dinosaurs as a young child?

They already use part of it for the queue for Field of Screams (which last year was so long it actually filled up to the tent entrance area). It's really eerie waiting with the shadows of dinosaurs (most covered up) around you. I'm sure they could repurpose more of it if they wanted. I haven't been through Dinosaurs Alive at KI so we'll have to make a point of it next time we're there during the day. This is an interesting piece of news which could open up some great possibilities for new rides, or mean nothing at all. -
No, airtime is my jam. Is Fall your favorite time of the year?

We actually did a couple of tests like this with some events a few years back. Without meaning to sound to egotistical, what helps make a TPR event a "TPR Event" is the touches that Elissa and I contribute. When we tried doing events with other people leading, we were told it just "wasn't the same." And that's not to say they didn't do a good job and the events were fun, but when you develop something that is unique to someone's personality, once you take that out of the equation isn't not as marketable. I don't know how to explain it any better, sorry. This is a "smaller scale" than an entire tour, but I attended the SFDK day of Bay Area Bash two years in a row when it was offered, one year when you and Elissa attended, and one year when someone else led it. While both years we had similar "perks," I can definitely say the experience and overall vibe was better in the year you guys attended.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

For anyone coming into this thread wondering about the discussion on the previous pages, I wrote a TR about the first night of Halloweekends that got moved to its own thread here. Carry on. -
No, Skyrush and El Toro are my faves and I have not ridden them this year, though I did ride Lightning Rod, I305, and Fury, which are definitely top 5 for me. Do you have pets?

My last Fright Fest was 2015, and those screenshots indicate prices start at $30. I think there was a SP discount in the past but it seems there might not be anymore, or the $30 is the SP discount. Dang, they really have increased the price and decreased the mazes. You'd think they'd offer a better experience for what they're charging. It says "VIP" is $40 or $45 depending on when you go. VIP is basically Fright Lane. We've "splurged" for it before because the lines can get pretty long sometimes. It usually thins out later in the night, but by then you have to kinda book it around, and the employees are usually not as on point.

I wanna say March... too long. When was the last time you saw something that angered you? -
Lol I've also heard these rumors and may have seen a thing or two If this is true that would be absolutely awesome! Luther is 100x better when Superman launches, I can't imagine how sick Zumanjaro would be with Kingda Ka launching overhead. Great report! Looks like a fun group. I feel for your poor hungover friend.

Love the report! I barely ever see anything about Michigan's Adventure except complaining, and I've been curious for some time about how Shivering Timbers is riding. I've still never been to Michigan but it's on my to-do list as well as this park. Never knew about the dunes before, I'll have to check that out as well! Looking forward to what you ended up doing in Chicago and don't forget to post some dolphin pics

Yes. Three nights of my second job, which only gives me 1 day with no work or school. Thankfully that day is also the first day of KI Haunt! Have you ever worked more than two jobs during a period of time?
-
Yes. Do you know anyone who has never grayed out on a coaster?
-
I just saw that you moved it. Thank you! And thank you for your response. That helps.

Yes, last one was Maverick at Cedar Point on Friday. Have you ever been in a corn maze? (like one of the large ones where you get lost and try to find your way out)
