  1. Aww, TPR turns 6 on the 6th page. How sweet. Happy Birthday old timer.
  2. I can still see: Employers Secondary School and your friends Hope this helps.
  3. I'm really sorry to hear about this Robb. I thought I was going mad earlier when it said I wasn't a friend with you. I wont re-add you, I don't know you personally and it would be unfair to bury you under a mountain of friend requests. EDIT: Just thought I would also mention that you still have a lot of public information, including likes and employment. If you're having trouble you might be best off going for full on lock-down.
  4. Ah, that's cool. Yeah, sorry I did do a quick search of the forum to check for anything similar, but being English, I didn't think to search for Major lol.
  5. Hey, This is kinda random, but we are in random, so no matter. Basically reply with a little bit about what you're doing at university and where, if you are still at uni or not it doesn't matter. I just find it's quite interesting to see the educational background of Theme Park Review and also to learn a little bit about Universities around the world. I'll start it off. If anyone also has questions about uni, put them down and we'll try and answer them. University: The University of Bristol, United Kingdom Course: Civil Engineering The University of Bristol is located in the South West of England. The university dates from 1876, so is not particularly old compared to some universities. The university buildings are in a beautiful victorian gothic style. The University Of Bristol was largely initially funded by the Wills family, a family which had a huge tobacco empire. The university is very scientific based, with the largest faculty probably being the faculty of engineering, which was also the first faculty. The university is currently rated as second in the UK by The Guardian for Civil Engineering. The university is sometimes referred to as the "Oxbridge Rejects" university, as a large proportion of its undergraduates originally applied to Oxford or Cambridge (including me lol). Some of its halls of residence even seek to mirror this, of particular note being Wills Hall, which is built in a style very similar to an Oxford College. Complete with beautiful sandstone buildings, and a wooden panelled dining room it is very pretty. Despite its appearance, the building actually only dates from 1928. The Wills Memorial Building, the central hub of the university. And Wills Hall
  6. ^ No, I'm going with one of these lol
  7. Looks like you had a crazy time. Top Fun sounds like an absolutely abysmal company. From RCDB: And the descriptions of their new rides on their website is equally terrifying: Oh great, a block system. What a modern convenience, 'virtually eliminating' operator error. Their rides sound like hot death on wheels.
  8. Chicago Les Miserables Sweeney Todd Phantom Of The Opera Wicked They are just...incredible
  9. This new design does indeed look fantastic. The 10 inversion coaster was somewhat boring since it was a bodge job upscale of an existing intamin 8 inversion design. Tussauds engineers worked with Intamin to add two extra inline twists. This is why Colossus is so vulnerable to stalling on that final turn, the ride wasn't supposed to be that long! EDIT: Furthermore, they reduced the height of the 8 inversion version to allow for planning restrictions at Thorpe Park.
  10. Ahhh thank you. We are actually starting to build some vocab now. Incredibly, most of my own attempts at translations worked, somewhat surprisingly. Thanks everyone. Keep more languages coming!
  11. Nope they don't have to be French. For my own purposes I needed French, but this thread is for every language! log flume suspended coaster floorless coaster
  12. Calling all linguists: After realising that I needed to translate a few technical Coaster related terms into French it made sense, rather than getting a literal translation out of a dictionary, or a wrong one off Google Translate, to set up an International Dictionary for Roller Coaster related lingo, which I was hoping TPR's foreign language speaking members might assist with. Anybody should add any terms they think relevant in any language to the thread. It would be fairly cool if we could build up such a dictionary! MG First terms I'm after (en Francais s'il vous plait): Gravity Chain Lift Linear Induction Motor Linear Synchronous Motor Friction Roller Coaster Car Hydraulic Launch That should do for starters. Thanks in advance for any answers. Now everyone else can add phrases and translations
  13. Hang on, there's a bit of confusion going on here. Here is better information on the news. From Thorpe Park Mania - Thorpe Park's official fan site Thorpe Park is getting Storm Surge opening next year from Legoland Florida. In 2012 they are now saying that they will receive a new coaster, codenamed LC12. LC could stand for 'Lost City' or something similar. It's height is expected to be between 45-50m as detailed in Thorpe Parks latest medium and long term plans. Planning Permission for the new ride has not yet been submitted.
  14. Ok Robb, I think that is a sensible course of action. Hopefully you have more luck next time around.
  15. Here's mine in ZIP tprlarge.jpg.zip
  16. Hey, I've had a completely different idea which is still in the early stages. Trying to stick the the TPR colours but also trying to make it look like an old fashioned video game in terms of colour. It does look slightly childish but that was sort of the intended effect. Feel free to love or hate.
  17. Hmmm, although I don't have an iPad, Club TPR looks so fantastic on the iPad that I can really see this getting big. I know that on computers you can embed videos into PDFs, I wonder if you could do the same on the iPad. If you could, that would allow you to publish an integrated/interactive PDF to everyone with computers and iPads/iPhones. Anyway, it looks great. Hope you get more people joining Club TPR.
  18. Lol true, and they were probably far more important for Elissa than they are for me now! It's just annoying because this was going to be one of the few times I could get to Sandusky because I have a bigger break this year since I left school in June and I am going to University in October. To be fair I get lots of holiday next year, thinking of that I should maybe just investigate going on a TPR trip instead, save me all the hastle of organising it myself.
  19. Well thanks for the replies Robb and Elissa and we were both looking forward to the trip. That was until I was told today that I'm not allowed to fly for a few weeks due to an operation which has been carried out on my nose. So I am very upset. As this thread is no longer relevant feel free to lock it. As a note to others who may be wondering how I was going to pick up a flight at such late notice to Chicago for next week it's because I have a relative who works in the airline industry. Makes it very cheap and flexible to fly. Even worse, I've been told no Roller Coasters full stop for three weeks! Anyway, thank you for replying.
  20. Hey guys, Me and a friend are planning a trip from Chicago to Niagara Falls with the intention of stopping off in a little town called Sandusky along the way. The only problem being our ages. We're both only 18, that means no car hire, so we're limited to taxis and public transportation. Also, we're students so we're trying to keep costs to a minimum Any ideas on how to do this with public transport? So far we've found Amtrak and Greyhound. Amtrak is the fastest but the trains are at truly bizarre times of day. Greyhound takes significantly longer. The first journey shouldn't be too much of a problem, it's the second part from Sandusky to Niagara as both Amtrak and Greyhound have long transfer stops at Buffalo.
  21. Hey, here are some screenshots. Mike, you are completely right about what Deborah Meaden said. I don't know though whether she has ever been involved in anything of amusement park scale. I assume the most she gets involved in the amusement industry is with kiddie rides at holiday parks.
  22. Fantastic show. The way it splits my school is truly hilarious. I went to an all boys school and nearly everyone claimed that they didn't watch it. However for some weird reason everyone knew the characters, knew the storylines and upon investigating their gadgets, would contain the episodes and music. It was truly hilarious the denial that went on.
  23. I have never done this but it does sound very reminiscent of Inception
  24. Hey everyone, Don't know if anyone caught Dragon's Den this evening (2100 BST). In one of the short clips of the programme they talked to a German born engineer who wanted investment to build a prototype amusement ride called "The Aeronaut Project". The ride looked really bizarre; it looked like the result of mating a skycoaster with a Zamperla flyer. The ride itself was slightly reminiscent of the Gerstlauer Sky Roller. It was a really weird ride. The investment was rejected by the Dragons with Deborah Meaden noting that she has seen many ride projects over the years which have been abandoned. Just wondering if anybody knows anything else about this ride, or its engineer. To watch this episode of Dragon's Den on the BBC iPlayer simply click here (UK only), for those outside the UK I am sure that this episode will soon be available on YouTube or less legal sites. This is Dragon's Den Series 8 Episode 9 at around 40:15.
  25. It looks fantastic. Congratulations on the good choice.
