^ Doesn't need an explanation for his avatar < Failboat boarded and set to sea after last quarter... v Thinks he can tell...heaven from hell...blue skies from pain...he can tell a green field...from a cold, steel rail...(and knows who sings that)

The song by Oasis? That is an excellent song. Is the second trilogy of Star Wars better than the original trilogy?
-
^Mmm-hmmm...completely agree Chevy commercials with John Mellencamp and his "This is our country" song. I used to like the song...until it became more used than the Star-Spangled Banner during college football games here in the States. That and anything remotely related in any way to voting, politicians, politics, elections, etc...can't wait for another US election year in 2008...

If it's on sale, yes. I drink Mountain Dew, though, a Pepsi product. Do you plan out which coaster to ride for a landmark number?

Carowinds New Ride Names
coolhandluke replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Thanks for the corrections, it makes sense the logo would stay in the CF chain...I guess I just mixed up the hooded mascots. And that's what I get for verifying info by checking Wikipedia: "The name was quickly changed when the Cedar Point realized the full negative connotations of the word 'banshee'...". I trust you over them (not being sarcastic either). It will take a long time for ppl to stop calling them by their old name. Hell, everyone I know at least 5 yrs old around southern Ohio still calls KI's "Fairly Odd Coaster" by its PROPER name "Beastie"--and that's a much smaller ride going into its third season with the different name. -
New college quarter started today...not a fan of school...but my team (Ohio State) is playing Monday for the national championship. Go Bucks!

Carowinds New Ride Names
coolhandluke replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Blue Streak was named after a local high school football team, the Blue Streaks, so it has understandable origins. But Mantis was a replacement name after the ppl in charge decided "Banshee" was borderline too offensive (actually the Banshee logo was used for Phantom's Revenge). I think Raptor is sweet, especially how it goes well with the "flying/soaring in the sky" sensation. Notice I'm NOT defending Mean Streak... Flight Deck...really? Flight decks are on top of boats and let planes take off. They don't fly. The coaster is supposed to make you feel like you're flying. Flight Deck is perfect for the STATION, but that's about it. And also, I know I'm missing something...CF has 2 Thunderhawks, a Firehawk, and a Nighthawk. Is this a super extremely high number of coasters to have a common suffix? Are there other flats too? I guess 4 just didn't seem to be as big a number as ppl seem to make out to be. -

Last big one (hospital) was four years ago with a messed up ankle. Last time you rode a coaster not knowing its info/reputation/reviews/etc. May not necessarily as a GP person, but last time you felt like one going on a particular ride. -

What is your favorite genre of music?
coolhandluke replied to SonOfBeastSucks's topic in Random, Random, Random
^^ Strokes fan here, too Classic rock and new rock. Pretty much anything in there. Eagles, Led, Who, Queen, Journey, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Lynyrd, to Offspring, Linkin Park, Chevelle, Disturbed, Muse, RHCP, A7X, Snow Patrol, you get the idea. A couple notable exceptions: Nine Inch Nails Jack Johnson Maroon 5 Hawthorne Heights ...I respect them all, they just don't suit me well. -
Wal-Mart graphic tee: "Genius by Birth Slacker by Choice" Caddyshack pajama pants. 2 1/2 year-old Adidas A3 shoes. Air Force Falcons Cap. ...I love college fashion

Roller Coaster Game

As much as I want to say Loop 2000...I had to cheat and search for it. So I'll go Lightning Racer. -
^ You messed up one letter in the acronym... I could understand if the coaster was set up like the Vegas proposal (and it IS Vegas...), but for SFMM or CP or any "normal" park to make a ground-level coaster that tall would be stupid. I won't wait in the queue for TTD as is (I run there first thing so I can ride it w/o waiting). The ride would just be ridiculous and an absolute bear to maintain. If your home park gets one, prepare for a Geauga Lake-esque demise of the park in a couple years... Names...maybe a Mesocoaster or Ionocoaster (for atmospheric reference) or peta-, exa-, zetta-, or yottacoaster (for SI measurement prefix reference).

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coolhandluke replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Quick note on repeat names...clones with repeat names are fine in my book, like Disney's and several 6 Flags' (as I already mentioned). Anyway... So now the question is how long will it be before KI changes the names, and to what? Will they completely redo the names like KD or just take out movie reference parts like they have on so many other rides (drop zone, FOF, Face/Off). And I think the name Back( )Lot Stunt Coaster is sort of long and tedious. Why not just Backlot? -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coolhandluke replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ & ^^ Alllllll-righty then... What if both views were somewhat right? SF has a lot of repeat names. Yes. When clones are named the same, I think it's an OK idea because it is easy to identify which particular ride is being discussed (Batman: TR, Superman: UF, Goliath (maybe not a clone, but still hypers except the new one), etc). I have no problems with clones being named the same because it simplifies it. What I don't like is when two (or more) totally different coasters have the same name (Viper, Medusa, GASM, etc). Then it's just confusing. As for CF, they are hit or miss with originality...usually miss... But the name doesn't make the ride. the track does. And Dominator will still be the longest floorless built by one of the greatest (the greatest?) manufacturer. It will be a great addition, regardless of name. -
Homeparks are Kings Island and Cedar Point Kings Island coaster is probably Beast, though Firehawk is currently very popular (and, after a smooth--yes, smooth--ride, SOB is competing with them for personal favorite). flat is Delerium (1st of 2? giant frisbees in U.S.) or Drop Zone (drop tower...duh). Cedar Point coaster is Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, or maybe even Magnum depending on who you ask (personally I can't decide between Maverick and MF). My favorite flat is MaxAir (2nd of 2? giant frisbees in U.S.), though Power Tower (4-tower space shot/drop) is a big one too.

New Vekoma Flyer in China 2008
coolhandluke replied to speedracer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
From what I saw from Robb's RCDB link, this park (if I was looking at the right one) is not big by any means (small enough to have virtually NO info...). That makes me think capacity won't be as big of an issue as ppl may think. I will admit this particular capacity looks very low, but a park doesn't need a 2,000 PPH ride when the park's smaller than some county fairs... . I think some ppl expect people-eater coasters regardless of how much it will be used. -
As stated, it kinda depends on what you're looking for in a coaster or park. Personally I love MF because it is so fast and tall and smooth (no airtime, sure, but I go to Magnum for that). Satchboogie3 had excellent examples for the woodies and non-inverting steel. Based on your current favorite, it looks like you enjoy inversions (who doesn't?). Excellent loopers are (mostly inverted rides?) TG: the Jet Coaster, Raptor, Alpengeist, Volcano, Talon, etc...along with the classic SLC and Boomerang . Check out the "hybrid" rides too, like Maverick and Stormrunner, which are sweet because of their inclusions of several diverse elements and coaster "genres". I realize I'm only mentioning coasters in the east/midwest, so there are plenty more elsewhere I failed to mention. For your trip though, I would suggest looking at parks with awesome collections over individual coasters. Thrills are at CP, SFGAdv...Atmosphere is at the Pennsylvania "K" parks, Dollywood, Holiday World...some of both are at Hershey, BGE.
