  1. I just recently finished reading REGENERATION by Pat Barker. It's a WWI novel, but no battles actually take part. Instead, it focuses on the struggles of the soldiers behind the lines, with authority, themselves, and the war. In particular, there are a couple characters (including the main guy) who are closet gays and struggling with self-identity because of that mixed with the strict "don't ask, don't tell" policy in the military, especially at that time. So yes, homosexuality definitely existed, it's just that society didn't accept it. Now as a straight guy I can't say I completely understand, but the book really helped clarify different things about it. Again, that's REGENERATION by Pat Barker. Fantastic book on several levels.
  2. I think this has a bigger curve because of the longer trains. Eurofighters are just one car, Fahrenheit is three long. The forces in the back of the third car would be crazy intense with a Eurofighter-sized curve. On another note, this ride looks sweet. Can't wait to see the Loop of Norway in place.
  3. ^Though I exaggerated in my previous post, Kings Island is alleged to be getting a hyper in '09. Actually, Screamscape posted a link to pics of alleged construction already...it could be huge...
  4. Can I have that time out of my life I spent filling out my brackets back? Please? Go Villanova and Western Kentucky in the finals!
  5. ^Large-scale hypers for all the rest of the ex-Paramount parks and a biggie at each BG...I hope...I wish...
  6. Like "Moody Blues Nights in White Satin: The Trip", perhaps? http://www.discovermyrtlebeach.com/video/myrtlebeach-hardrockparkNIWSPromo.cfm I believe it is alleged to simulate an acid trip (hence its name "The Trip" instead of "The Ride"), but they don't make it blatantly obvious. It does seem as though it will be pretty psychedelic and quite trippy though...
  7. ^Just to clarify, Patriot is indeed similar to Talon, but they aren't the same ride.
  8. ^There are trees, they just aren't very shady. Some look to stay that way, but some just haven't had time to grow yet. Give it some time and (I hope) you'll see a little more shade. I'm a fan of the rename to the Eagles. First of all, being a musically-themed park, ANY change from a rather generic name to a band name or other musical reference is a plus and an enhancement to the overall cohesion and atmosphere. Also, the Eagles are a great band for a western-themed ride. They are certainly country rock/southern rock, and "Life In The Fast Lane" is one of their faster, rock-ier songs. And the Eagles are redoing the song just for this ride, so I would assume the lyrics will fit a little better than they would now. After all, who would think the Aerosmith songs (especially the original content of them) would fit the feel of a coaster as well as they do? I'm sure it's something that is better in person than on paper.
  9. ^I'm sure that's exactly what he wanted to hear...
  10. UNC......................Pitt Georgetown...........UCLA And to respond to above, Georgia won those playing in Georgia...Xavier is just solid all around (and much more rested than the "4 games in 4 days" Bulldogs). Uspets: Winthrop, Temple, Clemson over Kansas, Xavier over Duke, Pitt over Memphis and Stanford Takin' some risks...
  11. More important than the (sped up?) video is his description on the side... "Who's afraid of 75 miles per hour and 200 feet of altitude? Not Me!!!" ...200 ft...75mph...Really? On Talon?
  12. ^^Ok, we just have differing opinions on what is an acceptable rank difference between the list to be "consistent", and how we focused on the ranks. I focused on how much each coaster changed in rank from poll to poll. You looked at them more as "in top 10" and "out of top 10". My system gave a little more lenience to the ranks. Like Maverick, for example, was 10 in Hawker and 13 in GT. As I saw it, it was only 3 spots different. As you saw it, it was in the top 10, then out of the top 10. Your method makes it seem more separated. Which is perfectly fine. I just offered one (probably the less looked at) interpretation of the ranks. And as I mentioned originally and you reiterated, foreign coasters are helplessly overlooked in GT (4 US polling divisions and 1 for the rest of the world...?!) ^Great explanations of the distinctions of the polls. I knew the differences and how only select people got the GT, but the Magnum example is a great illustration. Made me think of the "best movie" lists, too. AFI's list is chalk-full of theatrical classics (6 of the top ten were made before 1958, and 8 before '72) because of their impact in the industry. Most personal top movie lists would have more recent ones listed because they are fun to watch (Gladiator, Titanic, Star Wars, etc are popular list-toppers). I guess it parallels coasters pretty well (even to the point of foreign films being drastically overlooked like coasters). Good thing the beauty of these polls are that they are subjective and open to debate.
  13. I've wondered how comfortable the seats are on Acro. Stand-up(ish) on a drop ride would mean decent forced in between the legs, I would think... I saw an old TR from Robb and Elissa's visit there a while ago and they had a close up of the seats. I noticed they do have a small butt platform, but is it enough to keep most of the forces from stopping off your...you know... I guess so, as I have yet to find people complaining about its comfy-ness. Just wondering.
  14. Yeah, I agree the polls are much more thrown off overall, but Aliston seemed to only be talking about the top ten coasters from the polls. The top ten (at least with the Golden Tickets) is not as rigged as people make it seem. Here's what I mean... Top 10 in Golden Tix (and their rank in Hawker) 1. Superman: ROS (1), 0 different from Hawker 2. Millennium Force (4), +2 from Hawker 3. Nitro (9), +6 from Hawker 4. Apollo’s Chariot (12), +8 5. Magnum XL-200 (46), +41 6. Expedition GeForce (2), -4 7. Phantom’s Revenge (16), +9 8. Goliath—SFOG (7), -1 9. Top Thrill Dragster (23), +14 10. Montu (15), +5 Top Ten in Hawker’s which are NOT in Golden Tix top 10 (and their rank in Golden Tix) 3. Eagle Fortress (Not Ranked in GT) 5. Katun (50), +45 from GT 6. Nemesis (14), +8 8. Goliath—Walibi (29), +21 10. Maverick (13), +3 The only large discrepancies in the two top ten lists are the Golden Tickets overhyping Magnum and (to an extent) Top Thrill, and overlooking Eagle Fortress, Katun, and Walibi’s Goliath. All the other rides are under 10 ranks' difference between the 2 polls, which I find to be an acceptable standard deviation. Before you think I'm a Golden Tix fanboy, I will gladly admit that as the lists go on, Golden Tix seem more and more "rigged". But in terms of the Top Ten Coasters (which Aliston was talking about), they are reasonably consistent. With that said, I understand and completely agree with your explanations of how some of the polls fall short in objectivity. I'm NOT disagreeing with you, just trying to point out something which seems to have been overlooked by people.
  15. And it seems CF is going to give some of the ex-Paramount parks hypers, with Behemoth and the rumored KI hyper next year. Not just Carowinds, but all ex-Paramount parks could use some airtime. Badly.
  16. ^That may be a little louder than they'd like around the hotel maybe? A massive roller coaster whizzing by at normal intervals throughout the day. Granted it'd be quiet for most of the night, it may not be something they'd want that close to a hotel.
  17. Of course it's a credit. It's just a full-circuit impulse or shuttle coaster.
  18. ^I'll be #2 to admit it. As I said, no hurry for me to become 1 in 4...
  19. Couple weeks ago. That wasn't fun, but it sure felt good. Last time you used the "take a penny, leave a penny" thing in a store?
  20. I'm in. Same as this screen name.
  21. ^In addition to the "older steel roller coaster" they are alleged to be removing for 2009? Oh, wait, you must be referring to that, as they don't have an excessively large woodie with a massive footprint, is trimmed to death, and a 3-minute waste of time...
  22. Ah, that does clarify things. I had not even heard of a ride filling in Hyper's location. Ok, then I can see what you mean. On topic, I'm still a little confused with CP's brand-new kids' area. Why not refurbish/retheme/clean up the existing ones? A lot of the rides going into Planet Snoopy are repeats. Now that's not as big a deal as putting in big cloned flats, but I'm still not sure about it. And putting in the new kids' area when they're already out of room for more coasters! Now they're REALLY out of room.
  23. Here we go. LG Something Or Other Letters and Numbers. I can talk to people, it can wake me up in mornings, it has a clock, and a camera/video if needed. But it doesn't vibrate anymore...not a fan of that. I don't use the music features, as my iPod is probably a little better for that purpose. The most customization I did on this thing (besides pictures and contacts) is get one ringtone, because it was free.
  24. Ah, well in that case, I completely agree. Also, I think Tornado from Sarkasndsnlkndsjk park in Sweden wouldn't be the same (based on what I've read) if that twist wasn't through that tunnel ("THE BEST element on a coaster ever!")
