Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

^ Thanks I was already wondering if I should just bring the cash and get one if it got busy -
To lighten the mood a little, here's an article about a ride here in Sacramento that has similar problems, and the unusual steps the owners took - http://www.nbcnews.com/id/17988849/ns/us_news-weird_news/t/ride-screamer-no-shrieking-please/#.UdQkq_lwp8E They aren't kidding, if you make any noise they immediately stop the ride and unload you. Clearly this would be an impossible policy to enforce on a roller coaster at a major theme park, but it's ridiculous anyway.

^ Thanks thats a good point about GK and Raptor...exact same thing with X2 out here at SFMM, everyone rushes to it in the morning so you can always sneak in on short lines in the evening as everyone has already done it. chknwng mentioned the FastLane queue for TTD gets long..seriously? Even with it only being available on FL+? How long can FL lines get exactly? I'm used to the Q-Bot system SixFlags has where there's rarely ever a line at all for FastPass. Hearing this I'll definitely make TTD a priority Saturday night, and if that doesnt work out I'll be hitting it first Sunday morning. I haven't ridden TTD or Kingda Ka yet so I definitely don't want to miss it. I've now booked my flight and I'm locked in, I'll be at the park from about 8-10pm on Saturday Sep 7th and all day on Sunday Sep 8th which is a relatively short day theyre open from Noon-8pm not including morning ERT. If I can at least hit GateKeeper, Magnum, Maverick, Millenium, Raptor, TTD, WickedTwister, Mantis, and Corkscrew I'll be happy, but I'd also like to get a ride in on Gemini, Iron Dragon, Blue & Mean Streak, and Cedar Creek Mine Train if I have time. I definitely wont be stopping to eat while I'm at the park, I'll be eating right before and after. -

I wonder why they wouldn't have removed the inversions category for coasters with no inversions. -

^ ^^ I might as well jump in here so someone can answer all three of us at once, cause I too will be flying in for my first CP visit soon. Im flying in to CLE on Saturday at 6 and was originally just planning on going to the park on Sunday but figured I could drive right to the park from the airport sneak a few hours of night rides in on Saturday night and was just wondering what the typical evening lines are like? For example are there certain rides whose lines tend to dwindle at the end of the night or rides whose lines are always long at night? I'm getting FastLane+ for Sunday but won't be getting it for the couple hours I'm there Saturday night. titancoaster, to answer part of your question, only a handful of rides are supposed to be open in the morning, so Im planning on obviously hitting those on Sunday morning before the park opens. (which is why Im asking the above question, Im thinking about hitting TTD and a few others at night if possible) According to cedarpoint.com the major coasters open in the morning are GateKeeper, Millenium Force, Raptor, Maverick, and Iron Dragon. -

Only problem there is that you end up with shows that dont record because of that one minute overlap. I wish there was a way to manually "calibrate" my TiVo's clock by just setting it's clock one minute faster - I'd much rather miss the first minute of everything than the last minute. On that subject though they snuck a quick clip of Robb in at the beginning of tonight's episode so he didn't get cut out tonight -
^ Yeah as rough as Kong is, I still enjoy it most of the time, I like the layout alot. Admittedly I do have a pretty high tolerance for rough rides, the only ones that truly bother me are Revolution and X2. I recently found a pretty foolproof way to at least stop the major headbanging, but it doesnt make the ride comfortable by any stretch of the imagination.

^ According to the last comment on that permit page, Prudential are using a city ordinance against CF..there is apparently a set decibel level that is required, and Prudential are just holding them to it..there's no way the city could do anything about it short of getting rid of that ordinance, which I don't think there's any chance of. You're right though, thats the first thing I thought when you posted that photo of the guy on the roof with the boom mic..completely unfair because it's obviously going to be much more audible from the roof outside..this is clearly a grudge match, regardless of the actual effect on their workers, they're going to cause as much trouble as possible out of spite because they just don't want a roller coaster next door. Whether it's actually bothering them or not they're going to keep pressuring CF until the decibel levels are under the limit or the coaster is shut down. I really hate these people..not just because of their attitude..they're like the neighbor who keeps calling the cops on you not because your music is unreasonably loud but just because they can tell that it's on. I'd like to put them on a 24 hour Kong marathon and see if I can shake a few screws loose.

I'm so happy that I was given the opportunity to ride this amazing coaster before all the Prudential add-ons. Also I still chuckle when the Gold Striker commercial comes on TV and the coaster is shown not only with no sound walls it doesnt even have the tunnel, which is basically confirmation that the tunnel was done as an (unsuccessful, apparently) appeasement to the Prudes.

I'm wonder if they are trying to cut expenses. Superman is usually one of my favorites in park because they seem to always blast the A/C in there like crazy. (at least whenever I have walked through the queue) Last time I was there the vent right by the tunnel entrance was blasting and it was the only one on. I think it's a mechanical issue that they've been unable or unwilling to fix..cause yeah it gets really nasty in there.

My bucket list has changed a lot recently..currently topping it are: Starry Sky Ripper/Scraper/Scrapper: The B&M flyer in China..the most unique layout I've ever seen on a coaster. The reaction from Robb and the other TPR members (who have all ridden countless coasters) of how surprised they were at how great it was says it all, this one tops my bucket list easily. Gravity Max, the Taiwanese Tilt Vekoma: Blown away by this concept..no idea this existed until I saw TPR post it, it looks amazing and I really want to try it. Outlaw Run: So unique, so crazy..wish it was easier to get to..must try it!! Eejanaika & Dinoconda: I'm a 4D nut, I'd like to ride them all, pain or no pain. Kingda Ka: Im on the west coast so I havent been able to get out east to ride this or TTD, a problem I will solve sooner than later. Intimidator 305: Ive heard so many good things, I have to try it just from the hype. El Toro (SFGAdv): See previous. Expedition GeForce: See previous. Side note: Cool to see that a coaster at my little ol' local park SFDK is making people's bucket lists..Superman: Ultimate Flight is definitely a good one. That roll is pretty amazing. I always like to watch and see who has the guts to put their arms up and hang by their knees upside down at 150 feet!

Colossus is not butter smooth. Colossus has NEVER been butter smooth. The only way Colossus is butter smooth is if you like butter with shards of glass in it. I understand why you say that, every other ride Ive ever had on Colossus has been rough (so much so that Ive never really enjoyed it) but Im telling you my last ride was just as smooth as when I rode Gold Striker on the first day. I was shocked and it was amazing..it was like a completely different coaster.

Insane Coaster Wars Season Two!

My only complaint about the show doesnt have anything do do with the show..its either Comcast or Tivo with the scheduling..every time Robb comes on I want to hear his summary but all I get is "(Coaster) is" and then I get Ding! Keep or delete. Oh well, still a solid show, I'm enjoying every episode and saving them to mpeg to watch later. I was really quite surprised that Leviathan beat out Griffon and Skyrush based on what I've heard people say about the three. -

^ Wow! Outstanding find! I think this might be a twin though and not the exact same coaster - at the same time as the intl expo on san francisco the actual worlds fair was going on in new york, this was probably the one from new york..still its awesome that I may get to ride basically the same coaster that my great grandparents rode in 1939!
