  1. ^ I had perfectly smooth (as it gets) rides in the front and back rows of both trains a few weeks ago. It's pretty much a crap shoot, I no longer believe in a magic seat/row. I did notice there was no audio when I was there, so I did my best to reproduce it I really enjoy that short audio clip, I wish they'd get that working.
  2. ^ ^^ ^^^ I'm definitely going to make sure to get some laps in on the B&M trains this October just in case it's the last time Colossus is run backwards and/or even just the last time on those trains. Theyre still the only wooden coaster trains B&M has ever built, as such I hope someone retains them.
  3. ^ Doesnt that kind of not make sense since Mantis wasn't originally called Mantis, it was Banshee (at least it would have been when they were originally picking colors for the first time right?) I mean at the point that they were switching the name, it would have already been the current colors...I guess at the next coat of paint they could have switched it if Raptor wasn't already green.
  4. ^ I think it's implied that he meant he doesn't understand why people who can afford to do so don't take advantage. Obviously if you can't afford it, it's not an option.
  5. When I was there a couple months ago they were running both trains and the operations were vastly improved over my previous visit several months earlier, it also seemed like they had put some work into cleaning up the station (not as dirty, all the lasers functional, music working) so I think they are actually starting to pay attention to it for a change.
  6. Roar above Superman? The hell you say.
  7. ^ I'd still like to see them replace Invertigo with something other than a patch of grass before removing Vortex. You're so right about them being on the cusp of being a great park though, you can just feel it that they're just 1 or 2 attractions away from being something really special.
  8. So, you're saying...it was better than nothing?
  9. The most recent one just passed: "Sunrise with SUPERMAN: On July 20, flash your Season Pass to enjoy exclusive access to SUPERMAN Ultimate Flight and receive a commemorative poster, starting at 9:30 a.m." The next announcement is July 31st, so the next ERT will most likely be on 8/3 or 8/10. Go to sixflags.com/discoverykingdom and sign up for the newsletter.
  10. As long as you're already doing California's Great America you might as well do Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA too. A couple years ago I'd say skip it but Superman: Ultimate Flight is worth the hour or so drive from Great America.
  11. I wouldnt go as far as saying that the visual scan does nothing, as it is good to make sure there arent any employees or guests that have wandered into a dangerous area before dispatching a train that could hurt them or the riders...however I do think it's overkill to have the seperate scans, it should suffice to have everyone scan and give thumbs up like they've been doing for years.
  12. Thanks for posting this, I live in Northern CA (2.5 hrs away however) and have never seen Gilroy Gardens before.
  13. ^ Picturing signage at SFMM that says "Better than nothing!" with some guy smirking and giving a thumbs up just completely made me laugh out loud, thanks lol
  14. More proof for why we strongly recommend Fast Lane for anyone visiting a park from out of town. If you has Fast Lane, not only would you not have missed Millennium Force, but you probably could have ridden it 3-4 times in the two hours before it broke down. I'll simply never understand why people don't take more advantage of these systems. Absolutely. I'm flying from California to visit CP on 9/8 (I know I know, WCB..arg!), which I've been told is one of the deadest days of the year, but like you say, I'm only going to be there one day, and the park is open short hours that day, so I figure even if there's 15 minute waits I'm still gonna buy the FLP to play it safe and turn it into 0 minute waits, cause it will be quite a while before I get a chance to come back (I also took it to another level by buying a platinum pass to get an extra hr in the morning and booking an early enough flight that I can drive straight from the airport and sneak in some night rides the night before!)
  15. He also kept referring to the restraint as a "latch" which was making me cringe.
  16. Plenty forceful. The helix is not crushing, but it is definitely pretty strong (probably strongest forces in the park other than Tatsu's pretzel loop) and on most rides I start to get a little tunnel vision by the end of it. I never rode the coaster opening year, but I have heard the brakes were turned up after the death in 2001. You do slow down significantly on the brakes, but the POV videos make it seem slower than it feels. Ah I forgot Tatsu, yeah that pretzel loop is serious business. So just for kicks I'll rank the most forceful rides (based on max potential as GL can vary quite a bit and so can Batman to a lesser extent depending on row): 1. Green Lantern - if you get the right weight distribution, it can feel like it's literally trying to rip your face off. 2. Tatsu - Pretzel Loop. Nothing more needs to be said. 3. Batman/Goliath - forcefulness about the same to me. Batman's first loop and Goliath's helix being the most forceful parts. YC not considered as I haven't gotten the credit yet, but I doubt any part of it approaches those three.
  17. I'm definitely going, there's no way I can resist nighttime Goldy ERT. I'm going to be marathoning the ride the entire 2 hours. Gah..wish I could make it..night ERT on Goldy sounds really good..but them's the brakes being 2 hrs away and working early on Friday.
  18. Well no parks/chains take it as seriously as Disney in my opinion, but you're right, I think they should.
  19. So far that I know there haven't been any modifications to the track since the opening year, and I've never heard anyone talk about a significant ride difference. I'm pretty sure the restraints were changed at some point though because I remember a much different restraint system when I first rode it then in recent trips.
  20. You should consider it a guide and not an exact measurement, because of what Elissa said and other possible reasons. If it's close one way or another just be forewarned that it may be close when you try to board.
  21. ^ The grey outs can happen during the helix, even with the MCBR..directly after the MCBR is a very sharp turn that I think could cause a neck injury if you went through at full speed. Plus like I said above it's actually a cool part of the ride, because with Goliath not having OTSRs, you kind of hang out of the car which is one of my favorite parts of the ride.
  22. Goliath is just as great as it always has been. The MCBR is there for a good reason, if you went through there at full speed..you'd probably be injured, its a very sharp turn..it would be very very bad. The slow to a near stop is by design, and is actually one of the cool parts of the ride because it does a very slow dip/turn that hangs you out the side of the car before you start the helix portion of the ride. Goliath will frequently cause grey-outs in the helix if you don't know how to prevent them, personally I think it's one of the most forceful coasters in the park with Green Lantern and Batman (not counting YC which I havent gotten to yet).
  23. ^ Why is that odd? They want guests to know one of the main attractions is closed before they make plans, and that it's not permanent. Seems completely reasonable to me. They use whichever one they find quickest. The person editing the news doesn't have time to look for the best version. Though HLN did at least use Robb's video when they were interviewing him on After Dark.
  24. I think the most important point Robb made (and it was evident as you could see several of the other panelists and anchors were a bit taken aback) was when he said he would put his wife and daughter on NTAG tomorrow if it was open. It really drove the point home that he's not just saying it, he truly believes in that the rides to be as safe as they are.
