Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
singemfrc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes A few pages back a couple people reported they have slowly begun updating the restraints so that they no longer do this. Hope it's all done by the time I visit in Sept! -
I just picked up one today that I have previously avoided but I took care of today just in case it's removed in the near future (which is likely) that is Grizzly at California's Great America. As for ones I've previously skipped that's no longer there: From the same park, Invertigo (now Stinger at Dorney). Maybe I'll visit Dorney Park some day and get that one. From SFDK, Zonga. It still exists but at a crappy seasonal park in Mexico, don't think that one will ever happen, it's as good as defunct. From SFMM, Psyclone. From everything I've heard I didn't miss much. Glad it donated it's B&M trains to Colossus though

40% chance of getting a front of line pass. Doesn't mean much if it is just for one and you are with a group. I can't speak for CGA but at Kings Island they have the same wheel and the front of the line passes are for you and a friend. I can confirm (as I was there today and standing in front of it for an hour due to waiting for Gold Striker to ropen after being temporarily down) that the front-of-line passes are for two riders at CGA. Another interesting thing from today..a couple people mentioned Vortex being unusually smooth lately; well it was closed all day today. Always take info coming from regular employees with a grain of salt but the person who was "guarding" the vortex entrance said that there was a problem with a wheel on the only available train and they were waiting on a part. Maybe it was just too smooth, so they had to fix that. Bummer that I didn't get a spin on Vortex today but I got in 3 on Demon (all three rides smooth on both trains - what is going on with Demon lately? I love it!!), 2 on Flight Deck (seriously hauling..near grey outs even in the front row), 1 on Grizzly (I had never gotten the credit before, it was always down. Ride wasn't as bad as I was expecting but the load/unload was definitely as terrible as advertised), and 2 on Gold Striker. Boo to the operator who refused to let me sit in row 6 even though I was flying solo and was the only one in the station since I was first in line after it reopened..With no one else waiting what difference does it make? Oh well, still an awesome ride in any row. Longest line in the park today - surprisingly - was Psycho Mouse. I was going to grab the credit real quick but it looked to be about a 45 minute wait so I skipped it. For comparison Gold Striker was about 30, Flight Deck was about 10. It was a pretty calm day but apprently everyone decided to ride Psycho Mouse at once.. Huge kudos to CGA and CF for the season pass process. I already have a Six Flags gold pass and the process is just ridiculous and the lines are always about as long as the coasters'. I went in to get my cedar fair platinum pass today (So I can get the early morning ERT at Cedar Point when I go on Sept) and the whole thing took about 30 seconds, which is at least one reason there was no line at all for it (though admittedly I know its kind of late in the season). Costs quite a bit more but I'm hoping to be able to hit both Cedar Point and Knotts this season and try to get my money's worth.

Insane Coaster Wars Season Two!
singemfrc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Volcano just jumped high onto my bucket list. A launched inverted Intamin? Yes, please! As if I-305 wasn't enough of a draw...Kings Dominion is absolutely going to be the next park I visit. If I hadn't just bought non refundable tickets to CP I'd be switching my trip already. Furius Baco is definitely a bucket list addition for me as well. Had no idea there was basically a launched Intamin wing rider out there. Spain is a little tougher to get to than Virginia though, unfortunately. Maybe a future TPR tour. -
Lol, that is an awesome badge of honor. "Yeah, we dispatched trains so fast we overheated the ride. Yup." I wonder why on Superman guests can load right on top of the unloading guests but on most other coasters the platform has to be mostly free of the departing guests before the air gates even open. (Boomerang has the weirdest station rules..station has to be empty when train dispatches but guests can come in before the train does the fast pass through?)

^ Thanks for filling in that gap in my knowledge, V2-dude. Admittedly, I never use the Flash Pass at SFDK. DemCookies, if you arent already planning on getting Platinum, I wouldnt get it just for that..the line doesnt usually get that out of control, which is because of the awesome crew that works Superman. Every single time I've been to the park the Superman operating crew is on the ball dispatching trains as fast as possible..It really is the most consistently awesome operation I've seen at any park. On the busiest days I've seen up to 45 minute waits. Only once (outside of when the ride first opened) have I seen the que fill up the lower switchbacks and spill into the upper ones, that was on Key Club day. PSA: Key Club day is Saturday 10/19. Avoid the park at all costs on this day.

FRESH Theme Park Food
singemfrc replied to lakeeriemonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd just like to have any kind of edible food in the park at all. Out here in California at SFDK and SFMM the food options are practically non existent. At SFMM the Mooseburger lodge is decent, at SFDK I have yet to find any food worth eating. The Icees are probably the best cuisine in the park. I never eat in the parks, I always find a restaurant outside to go to. Disney is of course a notable exception. There are several excellent dining choices at Disneyland Anaheim, my favorite being Blue Bayou. Club 33 is impeccable by anyone's standards but good luck getting in. Full disclosure the one major park in CA I haven't been to (at least since I was about 5 yrs old) is Knotts Berry Farm. Hope to make it down there later this summer. -
Unless its changed in the last couple of months Superman is on Flash Pass. That right hand door you see in the photos is the flash pass entrance (and single rider entrance when they're doing it). If you go on a Sunday and/or right when the park opens, you can get on Superman quickly before the line gets longer. It usually takes at least a half an hour for the line to build up. I usually do Superman first then V2 and roar, then head over and do Medusa and Kong, and if I'm really bored then the middle of the park for Boomerang which is by itself. There is ZERO signage in the park for Boomerang - use the M&M stairs on the way to Medusa and Kong to find it if you're feeling daring. It's really quite possible to do everything easily without a flash pass, especially if you're not as interested in the flats since there's only 6 coasters (not counting cobra). But if the money isn't much to you or you cant stand lines or rather not worry about it, go for it. If you're going on a Friday or a Saturday it's more useful.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Whatever it was, it's back open today. -
^^ Honestly even with an agreement in place I would stay away from that property, an amusement park at acceptable noise levels is still an amusement park. If I were in that situation however, I would certainly be angry that they didn't live up to their end of the deal, but I would also blame myself for moving in there. I'd try methods of sound insulating my building, if that didn't work I would consider moving. I would not stand on my roof with a boom mic writing decibel levels on a steno pad and tattle tale to the city. OK that last part was a cheap jab, but still I'm being 100% honest..I wouldn't do that. Unfortunately I realize that I'm probably in the minority in that regard. I actually had a similar situation at my last place..when my next door neighbor moved in we both agreed on noise levels and times that would be acceptable..he then proceeded to shred that agreement and wipe certain places with it. I went to him and explained once that conducting an indoor wrestling league while playing beer pong and blasting rap music at 8am on a wednesday was simply unacceptable. Again, he agreed, but this agreement was so much of the paper that I referred to earlier. I then moved out to a much better neighborhood. I'm happy and he's happy. Whoever moved into my old place probably not so much.

^ Quite a bit of sway on Superman/Lex Luthor at SFMM, which is a tower of almost the same height as TTD. Very fun when you're on Lex Luthor at the top and a Superman car comes flying up and the whole tower starts swaying -

^ Wicked Twister is still down today..I was also wondering what's going on cause having V2 (the neutered version) at my home park I really want to ride the real thing in WT. Hope it's nothing long term. -

^ I've been watching the reported wait times on RideHopper and it's been hovering around 45-60 mins most days (shows 50 right now, though its not a typical weekday) Locals: Is there any advantage to taking either cedar point drive or cedar point road, is either one easier for getting into the parking lots? -
^ That is some sage advice right there. I think I'm going to put that on my tombstone. For a laugh, check out what I saw on RideHopper the other day. This is a good example of why user generated wait times should always be taken with a grain of salt! See anything wrong with this picture? 2 hr wait on Goldrusher? LOL.
-
^ Still their fault in my book for moving in next to CGA, which in my opinion trumps all the noise ordinance and informal agreements. It should be common knowledge that amusement parks add, remove, and move attractions within their border over time, it's definitely not a valid excuse to me to say "well there wasnt a roller coaster on this side of the park back then".

July 4th / Independence Day crowds
singemfrc replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was considering going to SFDK this morning but decided against it figuring the crowds would be to heavy. I saw a photo of people waiting to get in to SFMM for the early entry and if its any indication I'm glad I decided not to deal with it. Way too hot out here in California today to be queuing in long lines. I'll probably drive down to CGA on Monday instead when it's both cooler and less busy.
