The latter. The ERT is TPR exclusive and they purposely limit the number of participants precisely so you don't encounter waits like that, cause it kinda defeats the purpose of ERT. It's not really pricey considering what they give you, especially the KBF one with all the extras that park is throwing in.

Certainly a chain isnt supposed to break in this amount of time, but its possible. I heard from one person that someone at the park told them it was a "manufacturing defect", which could refer to a problem with how the chain was made causing it to fail. Also I think we're all jumping to the type of chain failure that X2 incurred which was an actual snapping of the chain leaving a train stuck on the lift; but it's possible that maintenance simply noticed an unacceptable problem with the chain during an inspection and decided it needed to be replaced before operations could continue.

Really, trim brakes? What makes you think they would do that? There is no reason to put trims on this ride and besides that I really don't think you could easily as it's so twisty. I think it's pretty safe to say this ride will never have trim brakes. Not that I think that they will, but I think what he's saying is perhaps the reason the ride is down is because the high speeds have made the track, trains, or their parts wear prematurely and trim brakes would solve that hypothetical problem. I don't believe this is the case, especially as I'm guessing IOE would be involved in that installation if it were. I also agree that would completely ruin the ride. It would take it from being the best woodie I've ever ridden to a completely bland woodie that I wouldn't care about, but I dont for a second believe that's happening.

If you think Ghost Rider isnt rough then you pretty much lose your right to comment on what is or isnt rough. That ride is screaming for topper track...such a great layout. Loop-de-loop, if this is an RMC makeover on Colossus hopefully that will negate the requirement for the type of care that wooden coasters normally require. Just the kind of thing SFMM needs.

It's still pretty enjoyable, but it has gotten pretty rough in the last few years. You'll probably find it rougher than most GCIs. The GCI near me at SFDK (Roar) had gotten really rough, but the park did some serious retracking recently and have managed to actually get it back pretty close to how it was when it was young. I'd love to see SFMM do the same thing since Apocalypse used to be a pretty great ride back when it was Terminator, but I won't hold my breath.

They do tend to rehab rides more in the offseason. It shouldn't result in anything being closed since rehab just means they go down to one train operation. A possible exception might be Ninja since it only currently has one operable train. I dont know if its the same every year but I believe it was Scream and Apocalypse during that time this year. I remember YOLO got rehabbed in April when I was there. Last year there pretty much wasnt a rainy season..its been a drought in California. I wouldn't worry too much about the rain, it doesnt rain a lot and when it does its still not usually cold at least during the day, and SFMM doesnt have a real restrictive rain policy like some parks. X2 and Superman close pretty fast, and I'm guessing YOLO might but havent seen enough rain since it opened to really know. Unless you want to take advantage of double rides, I wouldnt recommend the platinum pass. You can easily do YOLO first thing in the morning and get that out of the way. Realistically the wait times aren't any shorter than the gold pass. Also last time I was there X2 reservations only required Gold, not platinum. If you aren't going on a Saturday you may not need a flash pass at all. I always tell people just budget the money for it and then when you get there decide whether you will need one based on the crowds you see in the morning and then buy it if you do. I actually liked the original X more than X2. The audio and fire don't really do anything for me and I found the original seats much more comfortable. Always still worth riding to me at least once for the first drop if for nothing else.

If it was a software issue, then the person(s) responsible for GS's software would have fixed it already. Those kind of problems are not the kind of thing to take a long time. The park could easily contact the people responsible for the control software and the issue would have been quick to resolve the issue. Also if it were any common or electrical part then that would be something the park would either have on hand or be able to get quickly. The fact that it's been down for so long all but confirms it's the chain. I don't want to quote someone who doesn't want to be quoted, please read between the lines

Maybe a disgruntled office worker came over and sabotaged the chain...haha. I doubt it but that would be kind of sick. Those weren't "unconfirmed reports" that was just a random uneducated guess. It is definitely not a control/software issue and almost certainly not an electrical issue of any kind, and that isn't a guess.

It's polarizing, thats part of the reason I love it - the people who don't love it absolutely hate it. Also like thrillseeker said, I've had enough roller coaster rides now and know enough about how they are built and maintained that they're not really thrilling so much as just fun to me now, but Green Lantern still freaks me out a bit when I'm going up that lift and down the first drop, especially if I'm on the back side. It's just unpredictable - sometimes you get a midly thrilling albeit jarring ride, and sometimes you flip multiple times and get your face ripped off. I would love to do an ERT or something where they intentionally unbalanced the cars, though I'm not sure if you could find enough people willing to do it at SFMM.

Ditto, agree completely. I've considered going there several times and if they were to get this or really one more of just about anything it would for me tip the scale and convince me to travel there. -
No more Zac Spin coasters?
singemfrc replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I absolutely love ZacSpins, namely Green Lantern. I gladly ride it over and over thanks to the single rider line at SFMM. Green Lantern is generally looked at as the worst ZacSpin though due to how SFMM runs it, Insane at Grona Lund has a much better reputation. Insane is high on my bucket list. -

Interesting that it only cost $7M, thats a far cry from a conventional 4D Coaster and dare I say even within the budget of most Six Flags parks. Wherever this is going, I will be going next summer. -
What is your next park?
singemfrc replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Planning on heading down to southern California in the second week of September. In addition to spending the day at Knott's to finally get my Montezooma credit (it was in rehab the first time I was there). I'm also going to road trip down to Belmont Park in San Diego to ride the other Giant Dipper. The one in Santa Cruz was my first roller coaster ever outside of Disneyland and has always been one of my favorites so I'm excited to ride the other one and compare the two. -
Photo TR: VIP Tour at Cedar Point
singemfrc replied to Jodon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm guessing that the reason so many people don't finish the tour is because people who do the VIP tour are usually people who are "rolling in money" and don't really care about the time and money wasted. People who are watching their money carefully probably don't usually do the VIP tour except in special cases like yours. That reminds me of a pretty good example, comedian Adam Carolla (who is rich & famous now but grew up poor) complains that when he does the VIP tour at Disneyland California, which is considerably more expensive - like $400/hr I think - he is always trying to be like you guys and go ride to ride and maximize his time while his family (who have never been poor like he used to be) are always wanting to stop and rest and take their time and stand in line for food meanwhile the cash register in his head just keeps on turning, thinking about how much he's spending while they're doing nothing. He can easily afford it, but coming from his background he still has the mindset not to waste any money. -
Another possibility is that they're waiting on a part to be manufactured and/or shipped. Im hoping this is the case since no one has reported seeing any test runs being done since its been down. If it is a computer issue, lets hope its software based and can be flashed or patched. . If it was a controls issue, knowing IOE they would have been on top of that right away, I don't think it's likely a software issue would take this long to resolve. My money is on either mechanical or legal in that order.

No one has seen any work or activity going on the whole time it's been down. I'd guess that points towards a non-prudential problem because if that was the case there'd likely be visible activity in the form of new tunnel/wall construction. Another possibility is that they're waiting on a part to be manufactured and/or shipped.
