  1. Okay, this video is a little too cool not to share... In this thread the video of the X test section with an empty train has been posted, but this one is MUCH clearer, and with riders! Plus, some other X related stuff. A nice video showing Arrow at its end. I was amazed with this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbKDLbG19cw
  2. ^It is a little crowded up there, but that's a small price to pay. Some of the windows are now inaccessable due to exhibits and other things, but you still have a 360 degree view of the park, pretty much. I can't stop thinking how cool of an idea this museum was, and to use a Disney term, the Sky Tower has definately been "plussed". Brandon Bruce had the idea, senior park management liked it, and the employees all came together, donated stuff, and made it happen. Now, that's synergy!
  3. ^Actually, I do recall riding Psyclone during the day during Fright Fest. Friday, October 28, 2005. And yes, I did ride Colossus backwards that night. I don't think they moved the train during the day. It must have been 1 train at least location, or did Psyclone have 3? Possibly 2 at Colossus, then.
  4. ^Yeah, it was quite clear it wasn't originally for guests. Sometimes these abandoned areas have a second life. Submarine Voyage would be a good example. It definately seemed for a while there was no way it would return. After Rocket Rods closed, I believe Circle Vision 360 did reopen for a short time after 9/11, showing America The Beautiful. The Carousel Theater returning as Innoventions HARDLY counts. And of course, what could be Disneyland's most prominent abandoned structure currently, the station for the Skyway to Tomorrowland, in Fantasyland: The Magic Kingdom has one as well: While Disneyland's Skyway to Fantasyland station is completely gone save for a stairway to nowhere, Magic Kingdom's remains:
  5. Well, I haven't been since 1995, and as infrequently as I visit, I think waiting until 2009 would be the best thing.
  6. ^I believe the one in question was near Magic Moments Theater/Colossus. Park President Jay Thomas later told the woman he was going to buy her candy, personally.
  7. with that kind of comment, you can't blame anybody but yourself if RIP Psyclone responds with something creepy Die! Don't believe the lies, Kara, keep up the good work!
  8. The old Flashback spot was not visited during WCB. I sort of wish it were. For those who attended both the January event and WCB, would you say the tours were maybe a bit more...personal? There wasn't much to see at the Thomas Town site, but I understand that we all had to spend an equal amount of time at each spot. As for the old Flashback spot, I hope that's where the new for 2009 "family" coaster is going. I'm not a fan of waterparks, so maybe I'm just being selfish. If they could squeeze a new coaster there as well as Deluge, that would be great.
  9. A crazy lady was complaining during the Q&A session that a candy vending machine ate her money. I think she also complained that she couldn't get a 99 cent soda refill with her old souvenir cup (probably a Viper one from 1990).
  10. YELLOW TAG!!!! Yellow Tag = 15 YEARS OLD!!! NOOOOO!!!! WT...are you kidding me? That ain't right!
  11. We really do all wish we could have been there.
  12. Sorry about the old map...but this is approximately where it is located. There!
  13. Wow, I can't believe I missed that. 2001 happens to be my favorite movie. There are many interpretations of what happens at the end, but the simplest explanation is that Dave Bowman ages, dies, and is reborn. It's also been said he was being observed by aliens, which would account for all the strange noises. Still, passing thru the "stargate" is considered one of th best sequences in movie history. 2001 is now 40 years old, yet the special effects, although don't look "new," definately don't look "old fashioned" or fake.
  14. Wow, I am amazed. Impressed, if you will, like Erik Johnson. We were all astonished by the changes that had happened in 7 months, like Robb said. Well, it looks like quite a bit was done in just 6 days! 3 Point Challenge finished and open, Deja Vu open, Skytower museum finished and open, Cyber Cafe, Jet Stream refurb done (!), Tim has rode X2, and the little things as well. Can we have another West Coast Bash tomorrow, please? And since it wouldn't be a RIP Psyclone post without it...how about that 3 Point Challenge girl?
  15. This may seem a little late to be talking about I Am Legend, but it's coming out already on DVD this Tuesday so I'll say this... For those who have seen the movie but are relatively unfamiliar with the novel, the original meaning of the title was completely lost. To people, vampires are mythical, legendary creatures. In the book, the Richard Neville character hunted them during the day as they slept. A role reversal has occured, the new society consisted of vampires, and a lone man hunted them, so to them he had become a legend. There have been 3 movie versions of the book I Am Legend, if you want to see the most faithful adaptation of the book, check out The Last Man On Earth with Vincent Price. The Omega Man with Charlton Heston is the other.
  16. ^Fixed. So it had turntables at each end, connected to a single, straight track. If the loading speed was the same as the regular speed, I can see how it would have been painfully slow.
  17. The Dragon was a tram up the west side of Samurai Summit (north if you pretend the back side is the north side, as shown on park maps). Unfortunately it didn't serve its purpose well, so it lasted only a few years. It's a shame because walking up the sloped path from next to Gold Rusher is quite tiring for many. The tram up the east side, Orient Express/Funicular is much more functional, and it has lasted since the park's opening. Rideslover took this pic: It's basically 2 cars that move simultaneously, one goes up while the other goes down, and they pass each other in the middle. As for Dragon, I'm not sure exactly how it worked, but it appears that there were several cars along a single path. For anyone who remembers, did they all just bunch up at the top and bottom, and the first car would have to wait for the last car to arrive? I could see how that would be inefficient. A couple of Dragon pics: 2 1
  18. Rideslover took this nice photo of the lower Dragon station during WCB: If you get a little closer to the station, you can see that some of the track remains. What can I say, I just think it's cool.
  19. Things like the closed Skyway to Tomorrowland station at Disneyland and the lower Dragon station at SFMM always catch my eye. In a way, it's nice to be able to remember old rides that way, even if it means having an old, delapitated building just sitting there. Also, I always try to find if a building housing its 2nd ride has any traces of the first ride that occupied it. For example, what's left of Adventure Thru Inner Space in the Star Tours building at Disneyland. Anyone else? ADMIN EDIT: I have gone ahead and converted this into a discussion thread for all abandoned amusement parks, water parks, entertainment centers and venues of a similar nature. Please obey all posted (and applicable) laws and rules regarding private properties, especially those that are shuttered.
  20. Two questions were if there were any plans to restore Revolution and Colossus to their former glory. Sadly, they said no. Some crazy lady asked about the candy vending machines and the souvenir cups. Skytower museum.
  21. For all of you who didn't attend, I hope you have an idea of HOW FREAKIN' AWESOME an event it was! It really was, exceeded everyone's expectations. Is it March 2009 yet??? Seeing the report of last years' event was enough to convince me to attend this one, and if seeing this doesn't convince you to attend next year...well, are you sure you're on the right website? Thanks again to everyone who made it possible. Definately the best time I've *EVER* had at Magic Mountain, or ANY theme park for that matter!
  22. ^Wish you had said something on stage! But thanks for starting WCB in the first place, and thank you for allowing TPR to now co-host the event with you to reach a wider "audience" of enthusiasts. Can't wait until next year, either.
