CGA's Flight Deck STRIKES BACK!!!
John Peck replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You forgot "Deck of Cards" and "Poop Deck" for Christmas, they could call it "Deck the Halls" -
I do hope something is added to the park besides a coaster here soon (not counting TT) This park just has too many outdoor rides when you compare them to the local parks, so when weather is a factor, theres nothing else really to do when your waiting for the weather to clear. Here's a couple ideas I have had that would be quite marketable and reduce operational costs: - Purchase the used Maliboomer from DCA & put it where Freefall is - Remove Deja Vu or Superman (Personally, I think both could go) - Go the Tony Hawk route and have an indoor skate show as well as the coaster (a combo of both) - Build a Boardwalk Themed Area consisting of several Zamperla rides: A covered Tea Cup, a Disk-O, a Flying Carousel (Wave Swinger) Kite Flyer, and about 3 other rides. Then, you could Move the Swinging Ship to the Boardwalk, remove the Yo-Yo and put a Giant Wheel in the spot of both of them. That area is levitated, so the Wheel would appear taller. - Put in a water playground for families with other water related dry rides (River Battle, etc)

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
John Peck replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After seeing the trains for the ride opening in Germany, I wonder if the track would allow for the use of polyurithane wheels as opposed to the tires that Hypersonic used. I mean, that was one of the big problems with this, right? The bouncing of the tires? -

Great shot of the ferris wheel! thats was my favorite ride as a kid because it seemed so big. I like the Enterprise "product photo" they show here. I think it was 79 when they moved the Scrambler and Fly-O-Planes next to Double Loop. -
In regards to the flat ride statement about ROI, I both agree and disagree. You can market them if you have a really large flat ride (Maxair, Delerium) or new section (Dollywood's Country Carnival) consisting of a group of flats or you go the Holiday World route and advertise one major attraction (Kima Bay) and add a flat or two for the dry park. Of course, 4 of the last 6 flat rides added to Holiday World have been replacements for other flat rides. (Revolution for Roundhouse, Hallow Swings for Banshee, Turkey Whirl for Virginia Reel (Tilt), and the Carousel for the Bumper Boats. Liberty Launch and Reindeer Games were/are replacing existing structures. But think about this, both SFoG and SFoT have put together large flat ride packages in recent years, and scattered them throughout the park. And SFGrAm and SFNO did new themed lands using a handful of flats and a coaster. And other parks are able to get away with 1 or 2 flat ride expansions (Kennywood, Dorneypark, Silverwood, Wonderland) in their off years. Thats why I was a little disappointed when I heard they only really had 1 new ride for Thomas Town and one retheme

JZ's Ongoing Kings Island Update Thread!
John Peck replied to PKI Jizzman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't understand how people can sit here and say both Cedar point and Kings Island have taken a turn for the worse. They obviously still have their numbers and continue to thrill a new generation. I say enjoy what you have now, because nothing stays the same. -

I think any coaster they add would be great for that park. They already have a neat selection of flat rides, including a 24-Passenger Venture Scat -
You could always fly into Indianapolis, rent your car and fly out of Cincinatti, or vice versa. Just make sure the car rental place you use is at both locations

Carowinds New Ride Names
John Peck replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yikes. Most Cedar Fair names don't bug me that much, but Flight Deck seems to take laziness to an extreme. I doubt their removing much of the aircraft look, but with that, they could have come up with about a hundred flight-related names. For Example: • Afterburner • Mach-10 • Silver Streak • Iron Eagle Just to name a few. Come on Cedar Fair, your better than that. -

Thanks for all this great coverage, Shane! Christmas has come early this year. Shame they pulled down Orient Express, it looked like one amazing ride. Too bad it started having structural issues which led to it's removal. -

The closest i ever came to that park was when we passed it to go to Cypress Gardens in 1985. I remember the giant wheel and we saw the Wiener Looping, whick looked insane even from the road: http://www.rcdb.com/ig680.htm?picture=1 -
^ Yeah, $850 is a little better. Thats about the right price, but still, $990 is just higher than what i would want to pay, especially for such a large ship with soooo many passengers. I haven't looked, but I wonder if they offer a free shuttle from the airport. Most lines do in fact offer that. Or some hotels will shuttle you from the airport, to the hotel (day before, for example) and to the pier the next day. We've done that. Of course, the BIG thing you have to consider also is airfare, you can get a cruise at a decent price, but airfare can get ya.
-
The cruise idea is great, but $900 seems kinda high for this. I've been on 4 cruises already and have enjoyed each one to the fullest. Here's my thought, since theres not much time to plan for this and considering airfare will be rediculous, you may want to plan this for Feb 2009. It's always much, much cheaper to book things several months ahead. I would assume you want something in the dead of winter before spring break (another event that drives prices up), and if thats the case, you might be wise to consider 2009. Plus, people can plan that a litle better.
