The Great Escape (TGE) Discussion Thread
John Peck replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nothing worth a visit? The walk through kiddie attractions are really cool, plus, they have a decent assortment of other rides... the Mine Train is pretty good and they have a nice waterpark. I would go back. -
That Tidal wave model was done by my buddy and he had it made for the 25th anniversary of the coaster back in 2002. Its a non-working model Here are more pictures of it: http://www.angelfire.com/oh4/tk173/modelsmenuindex.html

Photo TR: Clementon Park 6/20/08
John Peck replied to Speeddeamon128's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Its not a bad looking park, I can't wait to see what the owners have in store for it. So what other types of rides do they have besides the Chance rides pictured? -
Jet star - the Ripper, going for scrap?
John Peck replied to buttonman700's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Gee.. i wouldn't imagine they would get much for the steel itself, they must really be desperate for cash to the point where they can't let the rides sit on the market long. Overall, those prices aren't bad, they are priced to sell. -
Knott's 5/24/08 - Pony Express
John Peck replied to socalMAN123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did they ever replace the Scrambler? I thought it was removed for P.E. Construction. -
The Scat 2 was to be replaced last year, but its nice to see it has returned.. and a nice shade of orange, too. Last year they replaced the Sizzler and the Tornado. This years other new addition is supposed to be a Carousel, but Im not sure if they are going to put it under one of the already exisiting pavillions or if that concrete pad will be the home for it. I would love to see them replace that little Eli wheel with a larger new one.

Accident on Wildcat at Cedar Point
John Peck replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow.. that park is VERY lucky it was only that bad. They really dodged a bullet with that one. Remember the Gillians Wonderland Zamperla Mouse that ejected 2 people killing them? I seriously hope this doesn't mean an end to Wildcat.. its not exactly a noteworthy coaster nowadays, but it's so much fun. -
Castle Park to open Dragon Flyers!
John Peck replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's an 8-tub, then it most likely will be the same ride as Indiana Beach and Great America's. Idlewild put in a NEW 10-tub this past season, and I hear its close to the goodness of Carowinds (PKI's old one) and Knoebels. Im glad to see so many parks buying up ths simple and thrilling ride again. -

I don't have a link to the quote, but the president of PTC stated that PCT Trains should not run Backwards. I wish I had more info on that, though I think it's more of an insurance and warranty reason than anything, but I am no expert. -

Any word on them putting the kiddie coaster back in service? -
Carowinds Opening Day Trip Report

Sad to see the Yo Yo I grew up on so far away from GL now.. oh well.. life goes on. -
Fact of the matter right now, is SFMM just has not been able to get their ROI after building huge, high maintenance coasters. And now as these coasters age, the cost of repairs are digging to heavilly into the parks budget. Its time to remove the older high-cost attractions of 10 years ago and start replacing them with a handful of relitively high capacity lower-cost rides, and be able to get around with having less staff to operate it. Frankly, I would love to compare the annual cost of running Kindra Ka/Dragster vs Superman Whether or not some of you agree with me on my thoughts of attracting more overnight guests or getting the park closer to the family atmosphere of Knotts or Disney, doesn't really bug me, but the park and surrounding community will do better financially if they can offer an incentive to keep visitors in town for more than a day or two. Even those HS and College kids traveling from as far as Vegas.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
John Peck replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I think you'll like Dominator. It has a couple pops of airtime, a powerful curve, and a crazy figure-8 ending. It was a favorite at Geauga. -
Hersheypark Announces Fahrenheit!
John Peck replied to Meteornotes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, if your ever in the Northern Georgia region, stop by Lake Winnepesaukah Park and you can ride it there. -
I think a Resort, hotel and second hotel with waterpark may be a great way to go. If they can keep people there for a couple days with overnight bookings and a marketing plan with another park chain, perhaps Busche, they can keep people for a couple more. Of course, as I said before, it will take more than coasters to lure guests, so if they can continue to have more known-brands in the park, they can continue to lure more sponsors as well. To be competitive in their market they need to consider: Significant nightime shows Major Theatre show (iceskating maybe) Higher season pass cost Stunt/diving/skateboard show (perhaps tony hawk coaster and show) 4d theatre High capacity Dark ride (Spiderman-ish) Laser Dark Ride (Men in Black-ish) Continuing indoor/outdoor family/kid offerings Another sit-down restuarant New in-park off-ground transportation/outside shuttle And as I mentioned earlier, a giant wheel, a boardwalk and DCA's drop tower and some new other flats with shelters (teacups with roof) Most of the ideas would be weather-proof and wouldnt cause people to leave in masses if the weather gets bad. These ideas allow for the population and would not work in all park cases.

Huh, I thought Herchland bought that for Wild adventures. Could be a new one all together, though.

Six Flags Magic Mountain's New X2 Trains Photos & Video!
John Peck replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
We all know that everyong at C-Buzz thinks they are the "internet know-it-alls!" Yes, I'm sure they have worked out the engineering over the many years they have spent working on the new trains. Either that or Tim is right now on the other side of the screen smacking his head "DOH!!! We didn't even think about that!" --Robb Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny, too! I just love your comparison photos, it's like night and day. It was only a few years ago when these trains were the most advanced things on the market, and now look at them... even better! -
Star Flyer for Martin's Fantasy Island
John Peck replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yay for Martins. That park really has been getting some much better attractions and beautification in there in the past 7 years. The operator, who was originally a carnival operator, is really understanding the need for A-Ticket items and a unique park atmosphere. -

Someone over at C-Buzz mentioned that all those holes may make for interesting dynamics, I take it all that engineeering has been worked out. -
I thought a Giant Wheel directly in place of the Swashbuckler and Pirate Ship would be nice due to the fact that it's close to the kids section and makes it's presence above those trees. The area is slightly levitated if I remember right. Plus, that keeps the Flashback site open for waterpark expansion. And again, in my previous post, I mentioned a Wave Swinger to replace the Chance model and the Pirate Ship to be reinstalled in a Boardwalk Themed area.
