2007 Mitch's Wooden Poll Results Are In
downunder replied to ginzo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There was only 6 votes difference in the head to head between Voyage and El Toro which ended up determining who was #1, now if we excluded all the Voyage fanboys who haven't even ridden El Toro but ranked it below Voyage anyway... Surprised Cornball wasn't higher I really enjoyed that one, and Cyclops too. -
Hang in there Robb, just think you won't get stapled in as badly on coasters with that new svelte physique. I guess you can always sell a kidney on the organ black market to get those last few pounds off.

Mitch's Coaster Poll
downunder replied to ScubaSteve442's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ginzo wrote: I'll get on Phoenix next year for the first time according to plans at the moment, it should be good. The Voyage was a good ride, but I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as people made it out to be. What kept Voyage ahead of some of the coasters I ranked below it was it's size, length, not as good as El Toro airtime and the cool terrain aspect. I'm mainly ragging Voyage in comparison with El Toro which for me is so far above any coaster I have ridden except Superman Ride of Steel which I consider El Toro almost equal with. If SROS and ET were in Australia I don't think I'd never leave the country again to do coasters, I enjoyed riding them so much. -

Die Voyage fanboy, shame on you - just kidding. I just like what I like, I rode the Voyage a heap of times front row, back row and plenty in between, and I enjoyed El Toro much more. Personally I almost put Hades and a couple of others ahead of the Voyage. Maybe I hit Voyage on a bad day, it didn't have great airtime, and was just nasty, not fun rough in parts. -

Yes, they don't do they. The Voyage, soon to be the Beast of the new millennium. -

I love that observation, the Voyage is so not a wood coaster, it should be in a new hybrid category. Let's all put Voyage at the bottom of ballots cause it's not wood, damn, too late. I don't think all the Voyage fanboys will be laughing. -

Looks like El Baldero, R & E and many others might have a new # 1 come Mitch Hawker time next year. -

Magic Mountain Versus Great Adventure
downunder replied to aliston's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Based purely on coasters, it's Great Adventure for me. Of the others I have been to, New England was a pleasant park, and with Superman I couldn't care less about any other coasters. Great America, nothing stood out for me, except Viper, all the other coasters where the same or had been done better elsewhere. Magic Mountain just doesn't have any stand outs for me except X. La ronde (pre Goliath) was just bad, Kentucky Kingdom was hospitable, nice water park but the coasters were OK. -
Worst Coaster Experience

The Beast back row around 11am in August on the TPR Midwest tour, the drop and turn into the shed after the second lift hill. I thought my ribcage would be broken into little pieces, I genuinely thought I would be injured, and I'm not exactly frail physically. -

I hate that whole fanboy mentality that their coaster is the best and anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. For me, El Toro is the coaster I enjoyed most that is classified as being wood and was so for me by a good margin. If I enjoyed getting my a$$ pounded by a coaster I would have voted differently. And I have ridden The Voyage, and 11 times in one day in August at that. R & E, I thought maybe the structural work done on Balder by the TPR tour to Liesberg may have affected Balder adversely or maybe all that alcohol they gave you detracted from the ride experience. -

Robb and Elissa, you both voted El Toro # 1 over Balder, I wasn't expecting that, but I don't blame you, El Toro is extraordinary. -

Robb Alvey wrote: I personally, was being tongue in cheek, I stopped short of blaming Elissa and you for not holding off the midwest trip until 2008 because your psychic powers had failed you. Seriously though, I agree with you, if you held off going to parks in case they added something good, you'd never go to any. I just view this as an incentive to go again sometime though IB is a bit out of the way. On a serious note, I really like the look of this, that 120 degree drop will be insane, I love those beyond 90 drops, it was so much fun on maverick. Ahhh, Indiana Beach, the memories - Cornball, anarchy at the Bumper Cars, lost coaster, I'll stop there... -

This sucks, I went to Indiana Beach this year, if it's anything like that vertical thrill concept, it will be awesome. I'll add my voice to the chorus singing the praises of Indiana Beach. The name totally blows though. -
Huge cheers from the land downunder for the not so huge Robb Alvey! You rock, hobbit feet.
-
Way to go Robb, keep up the good work. Hopefully I won't even be able to recognise you by the East Coast trip.

I love the Alveys!

Crikey, they have saved so many people from having to become ACE'rs. I have only had a little to do with R & E and they are two of the nicest, most generous people I've met, RESPECT. -
And hetero hook ups at that too, TPR trips, an ACE'rs nightmare.
-
I was hitting the hotel gyms in the morning too when I had time. Could be another selling point for the tours, kind of have a biggest loser angle.
-
You just want to be more attractive for your next Erasure concert, we know the truth. Does this mean the TPR tours will be going low cal? Try to keep up with me around the parks on the East Coast trip and you'll lose another 40 lbs.

It's a tough call, do you rate based on your best ride on a coaster or consistent good rides. El Toro was # 1 for me by a good margin it was great all the time for me. Voyage and Hades were lucky to get # 2 and # 3, my best ride on Hades was sensational but the rest were OK, and Voyage was rarely that good for me. Hades and Voyage only just staved off challenges from Raven, Cornball, Cyclops, and Kentucky Rumbler which were fun all the time. -
TPR 2008 Trips! Download the flyers here!
downunder replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is one thing I noticed on the Europe flyer, it doesn't mention Holiday Park at all. I know you would definitely go there, but I guess if someone is looking at the flyer without knowing much about TPR they may get the impression you are not going there.
