Thrill Point Park [RCT2]
Goliath513 replied to BelgianGuy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Pioneer doesn't really fit in with the theme and landscape of the park. It's hard to explain why, but a giant orange coaster doesn't seem to go well with trees. Seems more like something Knott's would do. Otherwise - great job. Amazing work on the theming and the rest of the coasters! -
Thanks for the comments so far guys! More Cedar Fair parodies to come! For this update, we will look at the park's two woodies. The first one, is a remake of the Cedar Point Cyclone (1929 - 1951). The other woodie in the park is the 1993 Intamin self-titled & mirror-image remake of the Coney Island Thunderbolt (10 years after the closure of the original) - which has helped the park maintain its top rating among Cedar Fair woodies in recent years (soon to change, most likely, with the new GCIs at Valleyfair and World's of Fun). Cedar Fair executives are confused as to why Rocky Mountain Park continuously wins the woodies poll when there are bigger Cedar Fair parks with bigger and/or more woodies such as Cedar Point and Kings Dominion. SCR5.BMP Thunderbolt offers redemption to anyone who thought they could never enjoy wooden coasters after riding Mean Streak, Hurler, or Grizzly. SCR3.BMP The Cedar Point Cyclone's double figure-eight layout wraps around the Chaos ride. As for the logo on the building behind the coaster... SCR1.BMP This was the first coaster in the park.

"We hate history! We hate trees!" What better words to describe this update. Just like at other Cedar Fair parks, old historic rides and trees are removed for modern day attractions. A little bit of background info. In 2002, the park shut down the enclosed Super Chute body slide located on the island in the middle of the Thunder Canyon rapids ride. Super Chute opened in 1978, and was the first body slide to feature a full circle turn around. Over the past years, the already heavily covered in vegetation slide has been overtaken by the land. In 2003, the blue tunnel (longest of the slides in the complex and the only one that did not feature an underground section) of the three Hydro Tube slides was shut down. The Hydro Tubes originally opened in 1979 as large mat slides, but the use of double innertubes replaced the mats as part of the Patriots Plunge makeover in 1991. The reason behind the closures was lack of staffing. I guess CF parks aren't that desirable to work at!? Rumors of restoring and reopening these slides were laid to rest when the park paved over the slides and cleared out all the trees to make way for a generic Proslide 'BehemothBOWL' called Dunk Tank for the 2009 season. SCR7.BMP Also known as "Toilet Bowl: The Ride" SCR5.BMP Although it was pretty obvious to guests about the closure of one of the Hydro Tube slides - many were not even aware of the existence of Super Chute because of how heavily covered in vegetation and hidden it was.

RCT2: TPR Theme Park
Goliath513 replied to WillMontu's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I like the idea of "The Big Mike Road Show" going around the park. For LSHoF, I suggest a Diamondback clone in the Cedar Fair section of the park. For PMW, how about a Batman clone? -
Since I've been home for Christmas break, I have decided to play RCT2 again, since I haven't done so in a while. This park will be a Cedar Fair park (meaning LOTS of trash cans, concrete, and coasters) with a cheesy storyline to go along with it! Rocky Mountain Amusement Park originally opened in 1977 as the Pocatello Waterslides, in Pocatello, Idaho. The park included other non-amusement attractions such as: private group picnic grounds, RV resort and campgrounds, softball fields, horseshoe pits, campground recreation, amphitheater, zip-line, arcade, and more. In 1984, the park was purchased by Cedar Fair and over the past 25 years, most of the original water slides have been removed. In addition, the campgrounds and their amenities were closed down overtime for expansion of the park to make way for coasters, concrete, and of course - trash cans. All that remains today of the pre-Cedar Fair days are 5 water slides. The park will also feature everything that Cedar Fair parks are known for, such as: Flight Deck Drop Tower DiamondBack Blue Streak Fire-*insert animal name here* *insert adjective here*-Hawk Son of *insert coaster name here* Snake River Falls Thunder Canyon Camp Snoopy Steel *insert adjective here* Challenge Park Soak City Relocated rides from Geauga Lake Rides names with no creativity that describe the rides themselves. And more!!! 9.BMP Antique car ride. Since Cedar Point still has three of these types of rides operating, this park will keep theirs. 8.BMP Thunder Canyon was built for a section of the park that the water rides not in Soak City were located. When Firehorse was built, it acted as an almost divider between the main park and Soak City - much like Magnum XL200 at Cedar Point. 7.BMP Firehorse, built in 2003, was Cedar Fair's first B&M hyper. The ride initially included fire effects, but they were turned off several weeks after the ride opened. Firehorse replaced the Whitewater Landing shoot-the-chutes (1992 - 2001), Amphetheatre (1978 - 2001), and a large portion of Soak City (1982 - 2001) 6.BMP More of Diamondback. 5.BMP The Diamondback entrance uses the same logo as the new Diamondback at Kings Island! 4.BMP Diamondback is an 18-year old Arrow custom looper. Located next door to the old Peanuts Playhouse (like the one Knott's just removed), both are rumored to be removed to make way for a major new attraction. Let the fanboy speculation begin... 3.BMP Coasters Drive In, as featured in many Cedar Fair parks such as Knott's, Cedar Point, Dorney, and more! 2.BMP V-Max was brought up from the closed Oakwood Lake resort in California and renamed to Speed Slide. 1.BMP Three of the original slides.

Cedar Fair Employees 2009?
Goliath513 replied to DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY's topic in Random, Random, Random
It is not happening in 2009. From what I've hard, it is unlikely to ever happen. Chances are, if this falls through completely, the coaster will end up at another Cedar Fair park. Cedar Point could sure use a good replacement for Mean Streak. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
Goliath513 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although it's sad to see this go since it was such an insane coaster, it makes since to remove it. It seemed to be in very bad shape - and the height requirements don't help it either. I'm sure that whatever the park decides to get, it will be good and run better than most rides at corporate parks! Perhaps if DelGrossos across the state doesn't get their old Arrow coaster set up into Sauce: The Ride or whatever, they could send it to Knoebel's. -
If they ever do get the new woodie, that means the park will stay around longer. They could wait a year or two, then remove Grizzly and Vortex (both of which are terrible rides - Vortex hurts more than Grizzly), and build a small B&M hyper over that area of the park and run it down the center where Greased Lightnin used to be. Use the special noise resistant track like on Talon, and the problem of bitchy neighbors will be less of a hassle in getting it built.

^ Compared to previous SLC experiences. 7. Day 8, Part 2 On our way back from the Jersey shore, we stopped in Matt's hometown of Clementon for their amusement park. Elissa explained to us how this is one of those parks we should try to enjoy since it might not be around much longer, etc. Their woodie which has been through more names than the Hitler kid will have to endure, was surprisingly fun. Nothing like El Toro, but having rode the worst woodies on the east coast already, anything seemed good to us! With ERT promised for later, we decided to hit up the log flume first. If it weren't for the lake water it used that smelled like something had recently died, this might have been better than BGE's log ride. We're not in Mexico, but, DON'T DRINK THE WATER! They look like the actually enjoyed the ride! So this is what it's called today! What will it be next time? Hopefully not Flight Deck. Robb and Dan did some filming, then the rest of us rode it as we were told there was a storm approaching, and we should all be sure to get the credit now. Elissa's mom rides something! Bingo square! Apparently, there was an epic TPR takeover of the carousel that I missed sometime around dinner. The storm! Well, the storm came, and hit hard. We didn't have the ERT session after all, because we just wanted to leave. I kind of feel sorry for the park since they offered us ERT and we chose to leave early instead. Hersheypark trip report to come sometime soon!

Day 8, Part 1 - Morey's Piers Starting off with Tony missing the bus, this day was redemption from our previous day at Kings Dominion. The other highlight of the day was the chance to experience an SLC with no headbanging. More on that later in the report. We were welcomed with open arms! Off in the distance, is the new and improved Great Nor Easter. After getting our free t-shirt and other stuff, we headed over for the filming session for us to be featured in a promotional video for Vekoma. They sure pack the rides in tightly here. Reminded me of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk in California. Zoom Phloom was down for most of the day. I don't think any of us got to ride it. The only person happy about this was Dan. Where there weren't coasters or flats - there was water slides. We didn't have enough time to hit up the water slides. Back to the main reasons we are here - to experience a supposedly pain-free SLC. What is that I see in the middle of the picture. Does WANK actually look excited!!?? Despite there being no headbanging, the ride still was not very re-rideable. The loose wheels on the trains caused the ride to be very shaky and rough. I can only imagine what this was like with the OTSRs. Despite the discomfort, the new trains are definitely an improvement over any other SLC I've ridden. The coaster is built around some water slides too. Some improvements to the wheels systems, and this could be the most re-rideable Vekoma in existence. First train of the day, and the ERT begins! Being right under the ride, close up shots were easy to get. Close-ups of the patented Vekoma wheel gap that causes their rides to be so rough. Elissa's parents and KidTums take a break while the rest of us run wild. After the hour ERT on Surfside Pier, we headed over to Mariner's Landing Pier for the second hour of ERT - in which, I would get my 150th credit! Sea Serpent, a 1984 original Boomerang, was credit #150 for me! The chipped off paint on one of its supports says exactly what the ride is. Time to get out our "Boomerang Survival Kits" Next up, we went over to Rollie's Coaster - only to find out it was down for repairs. While we waited for Rollie's Coaster to reopen, we used our time to hit up the various flats on the pier - including Maelstrom as shown here with Tyler and Brandon waiting for it. A few weeks earlier, I rode one of these at a county fair in Wisconsin, and it was the absolute most painful experience of my life on a flat. Thrilling, but not worth the pain. I decided to skip this one, and go ride Musik Express with Matt instead. Double credit (boob AND statue credit) for Elissa bingo. Yes, this double credit was approved by Robb. Included with our visit, was money for Jumbo's restaurant on the pier. The entire group happened to show up for lunch at the same time, so it turned out to be a massive takeover of the place! After lunch, we went back and found that Rollie's Coaster had reopened! What's that off in the distance? Even MORE ERT! We headed over to Adventure Pier around 2:00 when it opened up for ERT on Great White! After the traumatic experience the previous day on Kings Dominion's woodies, I was nervous about this one. It actually redeemed woodies for me! We found the Fudge brothers had been put up for sale! Lots of interesting shops along the pier. The shop owners, however, did not let us take pictures, so all I got was this shot of the boardwalk itself. We headed back for one last ride on Great Nor Easter before catching the bus to Clementon. Clementon trip report to be posted shortly!

Cruising with Theme Park Review 2008!
Goliath513 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's a little bit of Knott's in every Royal Caribbean ship! I remember this from my cruises on Splendor of the Seas, and Vision of the Seas. Looks like you're having a great time. It's been 3 years since my last cruise, and I look forward to going on another someday. (The lack of over-excitement means I have gotten over my cruise obsession phase ) Personally, the excursions activities such as the zipline, seem more exciting to me than the cruise itself. Or maybe I'm just saying that because with the offseason here, I can't get my fill of necessary thrills at amusement parks. -
Eric and Candace's East Coast Trip PTR
Goliath513 replied to ernierocker's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
This is one of those parks I almost completely forgot about. I didn't even add Hellcat to my coaster counter until not too long ago. It was actually a decent coaster too! My only regret about this park was not participating in the epic carousel takeover I heard about afterwords. And in the words of Mike Austin - the log flume was RUBBISH! -
Day 7 - Kings Dominion This is one of those parks that I don't have much to say about it. Either college has taken its toll on my brain, there was not much really memorable about the park, or riding 3 Vekomas after the trip gave me brain damage. Probably a combination of all because I remember we were (for the most part) really let down. When putting this together, I realized how few photos I actually took each day. Just a bunch of the main ride(s) and not much else. Kings Dominion is a good example of this, as you will see. Son of Parking Lot Coaster. The entrance area reminded me of CGA, but with more trees. Off to our morning ERT! Hearing nothing but great things about this ride from when it was at Geauga Lake, I expected nothing less. Sadly, I was let down. Medusa at SFDK has spoiled floorless coasters for me I guess. After about 3 rides, I called it quits and decided to get some pictures instead. Jahan being taken down by Kristen! "Being the tallest loop, we wanted to show it off by painting it a different color than the rest of the ride" Smooth, fast, forceful, but just didn't flow. Am I the only one who thinks the transitions on the corkscrews do not flow very well? Unlike Six Flags, Cedar Fair took the effort to tear up the parking underneath Parking Lot: The Ride. This makes up for the operations during our visit. Next up - Volcano The Blast Coaster! I regret skipping this. However, we had to struggle to get our credits as it was. Maybe I will come back someday after they get their B&M hyper... Fun coaster, but padded seats like on newer impulse coasters would help A LOT! Just as the ride starts getting good, it's over. Time for descriptive name coaster without effects turned on, or whatever Cedar Fair called it. It wouldn't be a Cedar Fair trip report without pictures of concrete or trash cans. Hypersonic support's role will be played by Jahan! It's been over 10 years since I've ridden a Togo death machine. Shockwave was out of service during our visit. Park management did not know why. Nor could they explain why Drop Tower was running at 1/4 capacity. Missed credit due to closure #1. Another ride I was really looking forward to - disappointing. Death to trim breaks! Long lines + slow operations = Epic Fail No flash photograph allowed in the station, so this is the crappy shot I got. Why do Jahan and WANK seem so interested in Tyler's ass?!? Avalanche won the Fail Award for excessive trim break use. So sad. I actually enjoyed Cedar Point's Disaster Transport much more than this. Hey Elissa! Dominator from the group picnic area. This means it's time for lunch and... Q & A with Management! I will sum up the memorable parts in a few memorable quotes, and let you decide what to think. "We think we're better than Disney and Busch" "People don't ride rides for their name." (When asked about the naming of Drop Tower) "It's unfair to other guests that people can pay to skip the lines." (When asked why there is no queue bypass system) Following the Q & A, management proceeded to give us "exit passes" so we could skip the lines. My group (Robb, Tyler, Jahan, Brandon, and I forget who else was with us) headed over to Grizzly to use ours. When we walked up the exit, the operator had never seen these "exit passes" before. However, he let us on. It still took an unacceptable amount of time to get through. One train operation, 7 minute dispatch times, and angry guests in line were just a few of the problems. After our spine smashing ride on Grizzly, we headed over to Hurler, which was even worse. I sat next to Robb on Hurler, which I realized I should have sat on the other side of him when the train came to the turn at the bottom of the first drop. Ouch! Also, putting a giant "renew your season pass" sign over the station for riders to view after a terrible ride, is not such a good idea. Who would want to come back after riding Hurler? Not me! Maybe this is why I didn't take many more pictures during the day - I was recovering from the pain. Drop Tower. Who the fuck names a ride Drop Tower?!? Why? I got a picture of Ricochet, but none of Anaconda. This wasn't all that good either. Rebel Yell offered some good airtime to make up for the slight pain. Definitely better than the park's other woodies. Since we didn't have ant children to ride Taxi Jam with, we did our credit whoring on Scooby-Doo's Ghoster Coaster instead. I will end the update with this picture of Tyler, Brandon, and Jahan! Next up - Morey's Piers

^ They can't even get their GCI built without the neighbors whining, complaining, and delaying construction... What makes you think they will let a B&M come to the park later on? Besides, there isn't really room for a B&M hyper. -

Unless they design a hyper to fit into a relatively "square" area like Expedition GeForce, I don't see them using this space for a hyper unless they extend it out into the parking lot or something. Maybe a dive machine? -
