Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm picturing either something like Lotte Worlds new XD cinema, where its been super-sized and shooting with the other people in the theater with the coaster track being on the screen like Lotte Worlds is mostly themed to a mine cart (I don't know how many other XD theaters got the guns apart from Lotte world's so if they changed it enough it could still be one of a kind) or a spiderman/transformers ride but with a shooting element built in perhaps to make it one of a kind, although in the hands of Cedar Fair, I dread to think how that would turn out: http://www.trio-tech.com/page/IDR.html -

Well Lotte World did remove theirs a few months ago although considering it's age I do wonder if they sold it anywhere or just sent it to the scrap pile. I wonder they went with the picture of a top spin for the press picture when they said 32 riders back to back, the video is the same except they also threw in another ride where the rides are facing each other as well as the top spin style seating (sorry don't know the rides names): http://content.sixflags.com/comingin2014/larondeen/demon/ -

After all the terms of hybrid and is it a woodie or not thrown around in the past , I find it quiet interesting that they went with Medusa steel coaster as opposed to Iron Medusa or something along those lines. I have no problems with it at all, I just find it interesting -
Hmm so looks like the choices are a bank holiday or a sunday, hopefully the crowds will be manageable to get the park done in a day still.

Sorry for the double post but we just found out ocean parks chairlift will be down for maintenance next month, Is there many places to snap good pictures like I have seen of other TR's when they have ridden the chairlift? What I would really like your opinion on though since it's hard to tell from pictures on how good the capacity is, which is now the better plan to take since i've heard ocean park can be confusing and difficult to get around if you want to travel around the areas backwards and forwards freely. Option A) Go on the sunday the day after we land or the bank holiday friday since they will be running the chairlift on the busier days and hope the lines aren't too bad or B) Go on the weekday when it will only be the funicular railway thing and hope the lines don't jam up too much with the chairlift down to get up to the mountain and ride the rides after we've seen the aquarium and pandas. Has anyone been on a day when the chairlift has been down?

My first thought was the Arrested Development chicken dance and my second thought was that poor kid is going to be seeing chicken noises and flapping wings behind his back for a very long time. -
I'm not sure, I feel I had done the same in the past, it seems like a recipe for disaster to have a no re-entry policy when you have just opened up themed entrances to the mall restaurants with open doors that lead out to the shopping center. There's some-one sitting by the lotte world entrance to check for tickets of people leaving their tables but they tend not to watch to see if any people from the lotte world entrance have accidentally gone out the mall door, It definitely confused me, i'd only gone out to find a bathroom. I think as long as you go back to the same restaurant and play the ignorant foreigner card they will probably let you back in. The park has great customer service but I have to wonder if the policy was for exactly what you said, too many people going out into the mall for food and shopping which they'd rather see be brought in the park (although since these are chain restaurants for both mall users and theme park users I wonder who gets the money for it, anyone know who would be taking in the profits here?)

Lotte World have really been busy opening rides this year! After the dark ride that I visited only 2 months ago they've opened 3 new attractions (i'll try and get out to photograph them for Larry soon) but for now here are the new rides: Dragons wild shooting is a dark trackless shooting ride: http://www.lotteworld.com/app/attrctn/view.asp?cmsCd=CM0012&ntNo=42&pUseYn=Y&pPstnCd=&pCategCd=&pVisitDt=2013-08-27&pSrc=&pSrcTemp= I'm kind of curious why they chose trackless cars since all cars follow the same route, from a mechanical/throughput/financial stand point is there any advantage. The second is lotte's balloon ride http://www.lotteworld.com/app/attrctn/view.asp?cmsCd=CM0012&ntNo=43&pUseYn=Y&pPstnCd=&pCategCd=&pVisitDt=2013-08-27&pSrc=&pSrcTemp= I haven't been on it in action yet but saw the inside, It looks quite like the set-up to Niagara's Fury at Niagara Falls. Finally outside they have just opened their new Disko this weekend, after visiting Cedar Fair for naming advice it's been called..... Gyro Spin, however unlike its named cousins Gyro Drop and Gyro Swing thankfully hasn't been required to install scream shields. http://www.lotteworld.com/app/attrctn/view.asp?cmsCd=CM0012&ntNo=44&pUseYn=Y&pPstnCd=&pCategCd=&pVisitDt=2013-08-27&pSrc=&pSrcTemp=

I'm guessing but do the skater coasters feel tamer than riding a disko? I assumed with the video they are aiming for rides that fit the whole family and I know some of my younger students will happily ride the rockin tug at Everland but have no interest in the disko at Lotte World. -

I'd always thought so too, the fact sheet from ages ago listed just different shades of gold although I remember seeing red in pictures so it could very easily have changed after the announcement: https://www.cedarpoint.com/images/news/GKFactSheet.pdf -
Photo TR: Chuck Finally Returns to Japan with TPR
Garet replied to cfc's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I was so disappointed to miss out on Joypolis when I visited Japan, it was closed for the refurbishment when I visited so they could install the new ride, I don't think any details where released until it had opened but the sounds of inverting launched spinner with dark ride section makes me think I should of postponed my trip for that credit. -

Hey there. As I've explained on my site, the Human/Red train stalled at the final banked turn. I wasn't there at the time of incident but apparently no guests were injured. I've checked with some staff at the park yesterday and unlike the 2010 incident, this time they seem to have no idea what the recovery timeline is like. They have confirmed that the ride will not be reopen in time for Halloween Horror Nights this October. What disturbs me more is that: it's almost a month but the park has yet to make an announcement about the incident. For now they keep saying that the ride is "unavailable", "under technical review" or "routine maintenance". What caused it to stall? Screamscape is again giving mysterious hints that something serious happened, did it pull a steel dragon and throw a wheel? -

Funniest Ride Experiences
Garet replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Watching or riding the indoor tagadas that have popped up all over korea are always hilarious, they are everywhere in a lot of towns if you know where to look (normally called di-pangs 디팡 or disco-pang-pang 디스코팡팡), one opened in my small town earlier this year and are set up in their own room inside with a DJ, lots of disco lights and a spot-light. It's always great to watch it bounce to a music track gangnam style or for the DJ to choose one random person to spotlight, interview and send flying out of his seat onto the floor. They always seem to end with an insane cycle too that leaves nobody in their seat. -

I don't know about el-toro or any of the other intamin woodies but I feel like T express still rides the same to me as when i arrived 4 years ago and apart from its yearly scheduled rehab that has to operate nearly all year round. I know it's not traditional wooden or an RMC coaster but it gives me hope that the RMC coasters and other modern wooden coasters that will be made in the future can be built to ride well for years to come. -

The station guards would always take pity when I came out the same turnstile and had to surrender to my ticket to the machine and point me where I needed to go, I'm pretty good with big stations and confusing subways since Koreas seems to get bigger all the time with new lines and they are always expanding the old ones to intersect with other stations, I guess I'm just so used to being able to access any line after the gates. Shinjuku was the only one really that got me confused in my travels. -

I had no problem getting around Japan at all however I did find Shinjuku station a little difficult sometimes to find the line I wanted ecause its huge, it was my main hub for getting around to all the places since my hotel was there and sometimes I found I brought a ticket and would go through the turnstyles to find out my line was a different company or not connected to the area i'd entered and so had to exit the turnstyles (and forfit the ticket i paid for) and go looking for someway to get to the gates I wanted. -

I think he must have looked at all the other roller-coasters in cedar point and noticed they already have groupies and went looking for the ugly girl sitting crying in the corner alone. -
Again excuse the ignorance but engineering wise, if they wanted to put it in dorney park, when they moved the towers to the parks, isn't it piece by piece?, couldn't they just remove some of the middle sections to make it meet height restrictions and install new shorter cables and reset the computers to the new height, or would it just be more cost effective to order a brand new shorter one?

Out of interest because I really don't know, is it Cedar Fair who has to pay to develop and make a solution like the evac rig for evacuation? I had just always assumed it was up to mondial to have to design and make it since it was their ride and design. Obviously a topple tower would be the perfect ride to replace windseeker. .
