Alton Towers Discussion Thread
televisedconfession replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, then the question still begs, what is going to be new and unique about this ride? What will make this a first of its kind? Could it be a new concept of an Aquatrax? Or is it a Vekoma? We got a layout, but we still have to figure out what's going on with this thing. Edit: Did it say it was going to be a hydraulic launch on the lift? cause it could have hydraulics on the switch backs or for when it goes inside the building. -

^Well, I used to live across the street (at USF) and me and my friends used to just walk over for some free beer. Some of my friends didn't like coasters, so they just went for the Gardens, Animals, and Beer (well, mostly beer). I think it'll hurt their beer sales more if anything, as (like someone else noted) I never knew of the combinations and seasonal beers if it weren't for the advertisements of the new types in line for the free samples. Let me put it this way, it can't help their sales. -
Ok, Well, this is late, and I didn't read all of the other reviews, so I hope I'm not repeating anything, but wanted to share my opinions: 1)These DVD's really help to bring a sense of community to TPR. I've never been a fan of forums. The last forum I was active in, was a Garbage Forum, and all it was, were people trying to compete to be the biggest Garbage/Shirley Manson fan. And even a few other Coaster Forums have that same problem of who has the most coaster knowledge. But what separates TPR from everything else is this sense of community. We all respect each other, and we're all in it for the love of the ride. It shows in these DVD's. It captures pure fun, coaster thrills, and sexy rides. 2)Roller Coasters in the Raw I & II are my all time favorite Movie/DVD coaster videos simply because of the lack of music. Now, as much as I don't want to come off as a music snob, but I am. I don't think I can take much more Blink 182 as I watch a coaster DVD (Sorry, Tyler). When I'm on a coaster, I love the sound of the wind, the clank of the wood, the roar of the steel. Though, using a camera, sometimes all you hear is the wind, it still is a lot better than sitting through a song that I loath. Now if you came out with a coaster series called Roller Coasters in the Garbage! and showed nothing but coaster footage and Garbage songs, I'd be a happy man. But nobody, but me, wants to hear that, so that's why these series are amazing. It's something everyone can agree on. That's it. Those are my opinions. If you ever had any doubt about buying one of these films, forget them. You'll get addicted. Not only will you get addicted to the DVD Series, but to the sense of community that TPR brings. It's a site full of people brought together for the same reason, and it shows in the videos, and it shows in the site. My grading over all is a 94% as there is always room for improvement, but it's pretty darn close. Awesome job Robb, keep them coming!

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

A bridge from Edge of Africa to between Nairobi Train Station and Rhino Rally? Why would they do that? And would that mean they would expand Edge of Africa? Unless it was right next to the train station, that wouldn't make sense. That boggles my mind. And that would be a HUGE ride if the hyper shot out of the monorail station and went all the way to where Rhino Rally was. I don't think they'd close down Rhino Rally. If anything they'd change it, maybe just making it a strict safari ride, like that at Animal Kingdom. AND PLEASE not another failing 4D film, unless it's another version of DarKastle Those rumors ARE wild. -

My heart just broke. I definitely think this is going to hurt their beer sales and annual passes sales, but I'm not surprised. I kinda saw it coming, but just had my worst fears confirmed. I screamed when I heard the news. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself if I can't be drunk on SheiKra. -

I highly doubt that a track layout would have been leaked this far in advanced of the opening. I mean, we still don't know much either about the IOA plans, why would we get a track layout for this already. Plus, that looks too easy. I don't know what about it, but it looks fake to me. Until I hear better sources, I don't think that's it. -

It's gonna be another week before you update again, isn't it Natalie? OH YOU LEAVE SUCH CLIFF HANGERS! UGH! (just how I like it ) -
^If they can do really good dispatches, and get those trains out in a timely manner, then yeah, they probably would need the MCBR. Just for safety reason. I think this ride look beautiful already. I really hope the themeing pulls out well. I have little doubt about that though. It's a Busch Park. They normally do a pretty good job. I mean, could you imagine Alpengeist without theme? Ugh!

OK... 1) Yeah, Mexico's the prettiest! Cause Mexico (and all Mexicans) are the coolest people ever.. EVER! 3) No, I didn't notice anything in that picture, and I sat there for a good long while trying to figure it out too. 4) Great trip report. I wish you were doing the coaster of the week on the West Coast boards, you're so effing good at captions. We can't all get straight A's in school, but some are just more prone to good PTR captions. 5) Where did number 2 go? Oh, that's right, I have to go to the bathroom now. 6) Next time you're in Orlando, give me a little more warning than a week, and I'LL totally call in sick. Or just request off. 7) Now I'm just numbering, to be numbering 8) I miss you. -
Looks great Robb! The one tiny thing I can think of as a suggestion, and it's really not all that huge of a suggestion, is to add the note: "NOTE! Onride footage in this video has been shot by an experienced ride photographer yadda yadda..." And maybe put it on the front page as well. I know you've got it below the videos themselves, but the front page at the bottom wouldn't hurt. I think it's kinda important to stress that idea. But seriously, this is great. Even more distractions from things I should be doing, like studying. Good job!
