n7's entry so far is by my favorite. That being said I just want to keep too many "OMFG that's awesome" from being posted because it may deter others from posting their concepts. Remember that this contest isn't quite looking for one definitive winner, but several ideas that could lead to our final product. Thank you n7! I love it! It's professional, fun, very "TPR" and follows the instructions. --Robb

More comments: - I'm actually not opposed to the European style dates. Although we probably will go with something like: Expires 25 December 2011 because that's a bit more acceptable in more territories. - AlmereStars - Good first attempt at the card. I like everything to the right of the logos, etc, but everything to the left of the white line feels a bit cramped. - DKR - Also good first attempt but I'm not a fan of the logo at all. First off it's "Club TPR" not "Theme Park Review Club." I like the sideways URL to the right. That's cool. A few other things I'd like to point out - - I'm not opposed to having some "grayed out" images of rides, but I want everyone to remember that "Theme Park Review" is not a "Roller Coaster Club" we are more about Theme Parks in general. And while roller coasters are a HUGE part of the site, I want to make sure everyone is aware that sometimes using a bunch of roller coasters as images is sometimes not representative of the site as a whole. - I'm a fan of the "less is more" mentality. Look at our most recent logo above compared to the old on before. I'd much rather have something look "clean" and "professional" rather than busy. If you can retain "clean", "professional" and "fun" - THAT is "TPR" So far AlmereStars is now the closest, but to be honest, still not quite something we'd go with...but close! --Robb

Another interesting article today: http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2010/01/06/front/1843773.txt Kinzel's golden parachute: $20 million Money and power will be at stake when Cedar Fair takes the next big step in the proposed sale to private equity firm Apollo Global Management. On Friday, Cedar Fair plans to file its proxy statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, outlining more details on Apollo's plans to buy the parent company of Cedar Point and turn it into a privately-owned company. A final decision on the $2.4 billion transaction is expected within 50 days. The deal includes refinancing of $1.6 billion of Cedar Fair's debt. Last year's proxy statement stated that if Cedar Fair CEO Dick Kinzel lost his job after Cedar Fair was taken over, he'd receive a $20 million golden parachute to cushion his fall from power. The new statement is expected to spell out details of his proposed contract extension under the new ownership. That proxy statement will include details of the sale and a ballot allowing unitholders to vote on the proposal.Unitholders will be offered $11.50 per unit. That's 28 percent above the closing price on Dec. 15, the day before the proposed deal was announced. The proposal must be approved by at least two-thirds of the total number of votes. Each outstanding unit represents one vote, and there are about 55.2 million outstanding units. Unitholders and anyone interested in will be able to view the proxy statement via a link at sandusky.register.com to the SEC's Web site, sec.com, on Friday. Once the proxy statement is filed, the SEC will have 30 days to review it. After it's approved, the company will mail copies to all unitholders along with a paper ballot. Unitholders will have a special meeting to finalize the results of the vote within 20 days of when the statements are mailed, said Stacy Frole, director of investor relations for Cedar Fair. Officials anticipate the sale will be finished by the time Cedar Fair's second quarter begins March 29. If finalized, there will be no annual meeting of unitholders because Cedar Fair will no longer be a publicly-traded company. Several unitholders have filed lawsuits in Erie County attempting to block the sale, contending they haven't been offered enough money. Interest in the new proxy statement is expected to be high. The 2009 statement stated Kinzel received about $2.96 million in compensation in 2008, including a salary of $1.25 million and a bonus of about $1.27 million. If there is a "change of control," such as a takeover of the company, and Kinzel lost his job as a result, he would receive about $20.1 million in cash and benefits. By comparison, Kinzel would get about $14 million for disability or if he was fired, $6 million if he retired or $3 million if he was fired for cause. Cedar Fair has another important deadline later this month. The "go-shop" period, when Cedar Fair can listen to offers from companies another than Apollo, expires Jan. 25. Frole said Cedar Fair won't comment right now on whether there are other offers. Here's what other top Cedar Fair executives would receive in compensation and benefits if they lost their jobs as the result of another company's takeover, according to the 2009 proxy statement. * Jacob Falfas, chief operating officer: $4.9 million * Peter Crage, corporate VP, chief financial officer: $3.3 million * Robert Decker, corporate VP, planning and design: $1.5 million * Philip Bender, regional VP: $986,000

Some feedback so far... Robin's and J. Marcase are the closest to what we are looking for so far. lightguy84 - You didn't follow direction and there membership card has too much going on. MG - Nice logo. See if you can expand on it a bit. AlmereStars - Your logo hits the "professional" and "fun" mark. Very nice. Although it kind of reads more like "TPR Club" and not "Club TPR." I like the ones on yellow or white better with the outlines on TPR. vuurvogel - I appreciate the creativity, but it's just way too abstract for anything we'd actually use. Also, look at some of our most recent DVD covers, T-Shirt Designs, and the TPR logo in recent videos we've been posting to get an idea of fonts and other design elements we like. So far I think AlmereStars is the closest on an actual logo and Robin & J. Marcase are close on an actual membership card. --Robb

Yeah, see...this is a problem. I can honestly say that every time I've ridden Terminator, aside from our events, I've seen plenty of seats empty on the train. Now granted, I'm not going to hit the ride at a busy point of the day, but still. Last time I rode it, we were made to watch the entire pre-show and when we got into the station, it was empty, with empty trains arriving in the station. --Robb

Agreed. I think the Terminator pre-show is a great effort from Six Flags, probably some of the best theming the company has done to date. But it doesn't hold a candle to Tower of Terror's preshow. Especially when you sit through something for several minutes in multiple rooms and you know they are cycling empty trains while you're watching it. I think the preshow is something great to watch and keep the guests entertained when there is a line, but to be forced to watch it while you could be on the ride I think takes away more value than it adds. --Robb

Erik & Misty's Smoky Mountain Adventures

I absolutely MUST go here!!! -
^^ Brian, I would think that would be ok. As long it's in layers and something we could edit, that would be fine. What we don't want to get it some low-res version of something that looks great, but no one can use because it's all squashed down into one non-editable image. Hope that makes sense! --Robb

Hey everyone! As we always value our members input with everything we do, we have decided to have a photoshop contest that will allow our members to help design our Club TPR Logo and Membership Card. This contest will be a little bit different from Photoshop Contests in the past so let me first put forth a few rules: 1. While we will have a poll and everyone can vote, the ultimate winner will be chosen by Robb & Elissa. 2. Just because you may be the winner of this contest it does not mean we will use your logo or membership card style in the final product. In fact, it is possible that we may end up choosing multiple ideas to create one logo and/or card. 3. One of goals of this contest, in addition to input with the logo, is to find graphic artists that exist on TPR and may be interested in helping with other TPR projects. So think of this as a "test" along with a contest! 4. The final winner, chosen by Robb & Elissa, will receive a free 1 year membership to Club TPR, and of course, a giant bag-o-crap! 5. You may submit multiple versions and revisions of your logo/membership card however your final version *MUST* say "Final Submission" and you may only submit ONE logo and membership card per person. While you can post your logo and membership card as two images, the logo you design must be displayed on the membership card, and that version will be your "final submission." The membership card and logo MUST be uploaded as a 300 DPI layered PSD image in .zip file along with your .jpg submissions for display in the forum. (Or a similar type of high resolution layered file) 6. Robb & Elissa will be giving critical feedback on submissions prior to the contest closing date, and you can either decide to or not to revise your image based on their feedback. If you are not open to constructive criticism on your artwork, we suggest not participating in this contest. 7. The logo and membership card must follow some guidelines which are as follows: - The membership card MUST look clear when printed out as a 3.370 × 2.125 inch image (the size of your typical credit card). I would suggest printing it out at home first before posting it. Your image should be created at a MUCH higher resolution, but it should look good printed out at this size. - The membership card must display: Club TPR Logo, Member Name, Member Screen Name, Member Number (5 digits - 00000), Join Date, Expiry Date, Member Type "Single" "Family", the website URL www.themeparkreview.com. - The logo should look good displayed as big as 1000x500 and as small as 150x75 pixels - The membership card and logo MUST be uploaded as a 300 DPI layered PSD image in .zip file along with your .jpg submissions for display in the forum. - Any fonts used must be free of any licensing fees - You must use gadzoox.tff (attached below) for the TPR Logo and the colors must match the same style of the site. - The membership card and logo must look "professional" and "fun". It cannot be something that looks thrown together in 5 minutes in MS Paint (so basically NOT like the example below!) - You may use the example below as an "idea" or come up with something completely on your own. The example is purely that, an "example." DEADLINE FOR CONTEST SUBMISSIONS IS MONDAY JANUARY 18th, 2010! Good luck to everyone and we look forward to seeing your images! Thank you! --Robb Ps. HEREis an update to what is happening with Club TPR and more information about what we are proposing. Here is an example of the actual size of the membership card. If you print this image out, and then place a normal sized credit card over it, it should be exactly the same size. Your image should be created at a MUCH higher resolution, but it should look good printed out at this size. 3.370 × 2.125 inch Here is a larger version of a credit card template. NOTE! THIS ONE IS ONLY FOR REFERENCE! The membership card and logo MUST be uploaded as a 300 DPI layered PSD image in .zip file along with your .jpg submissions for display in the forum. (Or a similar type of high resolution layered file) gadzoox_999.zip TPR Gadzoox Font The logo must look good as a small image for the front page of TPR and it must also fit well on the Membership card. Here is a crappy Club TPR logo. Just to give you some ideas to start off with.

The way hotels work is that checkout is usually by 11am. That doesn't mean you HAVE to check out at 11am you can check out at any time in the morning. Most people will stay at one of the many hotels in the Santa Clarita/Valencia area. CLICK HERE The Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, and Hilton Garden Inn are walking distance to SFMM. The event ends at Magic Mountain at midnight and then Knott's starts the next day at 8am. Not a lot of time between the two, but hey, that's all part of these crazy events! It's up to you if you want to stay at the same hotel on Friday & Saturday night, get up ass early in the morning on Sunday and drive down to Knott's (you would probably need to be on the road no later than 6:30am to get to the park by 8am, assuming you have picked up your Knott's event packet at SFMM the day before.) Either that or you can drive down on Saturday night (which there should be no traffic at all) and stay at one of the Knott's Berry Farm area hotels. CLICK HERE The Roadway Inn and Super 8 are across the street from the park. And then you probably only need to leave your hotel by 7:30 to get to the park by 8am (assuming you've picked up your event packet the day before at SFMM.) It takes about 60 minutes in no traffic to get from SFMM to Knott's. Hope this helps! --Robb

While we are still working through a lot of things, I will say we have had very positive feedback from Holiday World, Beech Bend, and Cedar Point, and it looks as though Club TPR members would be approved to attend their annual events like HoliWood Nights, Rumblefest, and CoasterMania. I'll have more details soon as we start putting things together. --Robb "A big thank you to those parks for working with us on this project!" Alvey

Please note that the tours at Knott's are not confirmed yet. We are working through challenges of how to get a large group of people through an attraction or part of an attraction like Calico Mine Train. And it may or may not happen depending on a number of factors. Just getting feedback on it though is very helpful in making it happen. --Robb

So just to clarify, if I plan on redeeming a voucher (a SFMM voucher) at the pass processing center the morning of WCB, can I go ahead and register at the $37 price? I already have a pass, but my parents don't yet. They are planning on getting season passes, I just need to know which price to register them at. Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I read the flyer (and this thread) all the way through but still wasn't completely sure. Thanks! Yes, if you have a SFMM voucher for a season pass, it's just as good as having your season pass. --Robb
