What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
Janster replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1: Goliath - Walibi World (Fast, Intense, brilliant layout (I just love the combination of unique elemants with long high-speed turns and airtime hills). Better then EGF) 2: Black Mamba - Phantasialand (the power of theming and B&M smoothness) 3: Air - Alton Towers (it just feels so good!) 4: Colossos - Heide Park (those first two hills...) 5: Nemesis - Alton Towers (Unique layout, brilliant theming) 6: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - DLR Paris (Yes, Vekoma can make phantastic rides!) 7: Expetion Geforce - Holiday Park (It just isn't that special to me) 8: De Vliegende Hollander - Efteling (phantastic ride, not much of a roller coaster though. Theming? Beat this Disney!) 9: Colossus - Thorpe Park (a simple multilooper, with some nice little hills, turns and tunnels between the inversions) 10: Oblivion - Alton Towers (A 180 feet vertical drop, without building above the surrounding tree-tops... ) -
Kvasten-Gröna Lund's new coaster.

RCDB says april 28th. Thanks for the photo's. Looks like a fine coaster. -
Chessington World of Adventures, Fast Pass?
Janster replied to piers's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know what to think about those fast passes btw. I hate the "You are able to pay more? You can go in all the rides. <--> You can't afford fast passes? F@!C U! You will not be able to do all of our ride!" policy of those large parks. So I'm principally against fast passes and deep down inside I feel that I shouldn't buy them. But by providing fast passes, on a busy day, they make it almost essential to buy them, because capacity of the normal q-line decreases dramatically. -
Stampida (Port Aventura) Valleys.
Janster replied to coastermaniac1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kumbak seems to screw everything, except Pythnon's (Efteling) new trains. De Vliegende Holaander was delayed and is still not running like it´s supposed to run. And now this... Kubak has no experience and it seems like they need to "re-invent" evertything that other coasterbuildings already invented. -
Chessington World of Adventures, Fast Pass?
Janster replied to piers's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I also hate those school trips in theme parks. Shouldn't school do something educational? Like going to a museum or visiting old buildings and stuff? This park is located in a very dense populated area. I encountered terrible crowd's on a weekday in june at Thorpe Park (not too far from Chesington). Due to a fastpass I managed to do all the major rides at thorpe twice in one day. -
Well, kinda felt guilty for only watching other peoples movies and photo's, so I just have to give a contribution to the site as well! Here's a TR of a small familypark in the north of the Netherlands. I used to go here when I was little and the vekoma Tornado was my first roller coaster with inversions ever (back in 1990). Enjoy! Just a little something to ease the nerves. Tomorrow we’re going to “Avonturenpark Hellendoorn” (Adventure Park Hellendoorn)! Menghini driving. The park is located 50 miles east-north-east of Walibi World, real close to “Attractiepark Slagharen” (attraction park Slagharen). Slagharen and Hellendoorn can be done in one day. We were the first. Forty minutes before park opening. Tha park is located in a large fores called “De Veluwe”, so lots of trees in and around the park. I like that. The log fume. Nothing special really. Ooh… Splash! What does this button do? It unleashes Vekoma-Tornado -Terror. This one has two inversions, a loop and a corkscrew. It wasn’t that bad. It was not so rough, it had a nice first drop and a smooth loop. But the other credits in this park were better. Whee! Whee! Haha, there are forces inside, far beyond your imagination! The oldtimer ride Yes, we did went on the oldtimer ride. And the exhilarating – 4 inches per second – boat ride! The “Rioolrat” (sewer rat) had a freaky q-line. … “Ooh, it’s dark and freaky in here!” This was a real nice feature. A turn outside the sewer with some mist. Inside there were some other cool features… Nice vekoma junior coaster. Out of the sewer, let’s grap some chow! “You know what they put on French fries in Holland in stead of ketchup?” “Mayonaise!” “yak!” “I’ve seen them do it man, they fucking drown them in that shit!” Slide Of to “Donderstenen”. A very cool sounding name, at least in Dutch. For non dutch speakers it’s probably an unpronounceable at random sequence of characters. A nicely themed first car. Donderstenen means “Thunder Stones”. Quite a descent credit. There was an interactive dark ride inside this mansion. “Dino Sky Pedalo”. Did I mention the cool sounding names already? It has some alliteration in it. Ooh! I want to ride the dino ride! This happens when you put granny in front… “Dino Sky Pedalo Pile-up!” That’s me, lost. Darn! Menghini beat me to the tower! Quite an extensive maze. Too bad you don't come across them more often Moby Dick. With bizarre looking cars. Those large eyes... It has wheels, it has rails, it has this tiny bit of airtime too… Credit? “Sungai Kalimantan”. Another cool name. It’s almost poetry in this Park. The aqua duct, and yes…. The q-line Is that close to the rapids! There should have been more waves in here. But an awesome rapid ride. One of the best I’ve been on. Too bad “Montezuma’s Revenge” (how does that sound?) was down today. The left motor needed to be replaced or something. It looked very well themed though, I would have loved to ride this one. And to conclude the day… The elephant ride! This brings back some fine childhood memories… Thanks for reading and watching!

Wow! Some real nice shots there dude! Keep it up. The coaster looks OK. My first X-car experience in Ge-Force at Drayton Manor was quite disappointing. But I guess Maurer Sohne's X-cars will come in my "cool book" after I've been on this one. How was the lap bar? I hear a lot of complaints about the restraints in other X-cars.

2006 Park Attendance Figures
Janster replied to PKIDelirium's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Interesting document. Weird, Walibi World is not even in the top 20 of European parks and Duinrell Wassenaar is (probably because of their spectacular water park). And I thougt Alton Towers would draw much more visitors then 2.4 million. -
I went back to Efteling today. It was extremely not crowdy. There were no q-lines anywhere in the park. DVH broke down in the afternoon. It was closed for an hour or so. They really encounter some starting problems with the ride. I did rode it twice though. An employee told me that some effects in the dark ride section are still not working... So perhaps the rides becomes even more spectacular then it already is!

Photo TR Efteling April 1st
Janster replied to Mystery's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It was indeed a busy day. But the park has a huge capacity. Amazing that -- with 20.000 people in the park -- we were able to do all the big rides in the park, including two times De Vliegende Hollander. (the capacity for flying dutchman is quite low, for now, but I'm convinced that they will operate it better in the next weeks ...). Vogelrok and Python, got some love this winter. It looked like Python got a new paint job and Vogelrok got a new and better themed q-line. The park was really neat and tidy and all the dark rides were operating perfectly, with massive capacity, as always. Fantastic park. Great photo's mystery! -

Dude, I managed two rides too, only with 2.5 hours of q-ing time. That disabled people have priority, that's understandable, nothing wrong with that. But why two rides man? Don't you thinkt that's a bit overdone? And they could have done a lot of testing to operate it at full capacity, because the ride was ready weeks before opening day. They claimed 1900 riders per hour quite explicitly in the media. They didn't even get to one third of that number. That was a bit of a bummer for me. But I do expect a higher capacity in the next couple of months. Don't get me wrong, capacity was the only point of criticism (but worht mentioning). Fantastic ride. -
This really is a jewel of a ride. But there is one technical problem with it: Capacity. The ride was poorly operated yesterday. The ride suffers a MAYOR CAPACITY PROBLEM. Every 70 to 80 seconds a boat with 12 peoaple (2 empty spot on average) leaves the station. For such an impressive ride in a busy park like Eftleing 600 riders per hour just wón't do. The operators don't help the riders to fill the boats, while that's neccessary with this awkward 3-4-3-4 seating arrangement. I think they operated not at full capacity, because of the first full operation day. But then again, they had time enough to test ride it. Could you fix this Efteling, please? Another dumb design error: disabled people with wheelchairs and their guides get to ride the Flying Dutchman twice. Boats leaving on the left platform, arrive at the right platform. Wheelchairs can't be transported from one platform to the other - further decreasing the capacity. That 1900 riders per hour figure on RCDB and in the dutch newspapers is a.... fairytale! But the ride experience is great. Absolutely no negative comments about the ride itself. Unique, impressive, spooky, creepy and fun! Nice photo´s!

The ride is exactly what you expect. Beautiful q-line, spooky creepy dark ride and a cute little water coaster. The ride was poorly operated though. What coasters do you want to ride?
Janster replied to CoasterCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I'm not to gready today. Tomorrow: De Vliegende Hollander at Efteling. It's the opening day for the general public. If I get to ride it only ones, I will be a happy person tomorrow. I'm expecting massive crowd's in front of the ride entrance. -

That is just not true. You can think they look ugly, that's OK, allthough I don't understand why you prefer the original more ugly and standard vekoma trains. But the new trains are smoother and more comfortable, there really is no point of discussion there. More space for your legs (nothing to bang your knees against), tall people have no otsr's pressing on their shoulders and larger wheels. Those trains are a very welcome upgrade for the Vekoma oldies. -

Yeah, it'll be good to have some intamin rockets on the European continent. Desert race is Germanies first rocket coaster. I liked Rita-QOS, and this one will be just as cool. I agree with most people. The colours of the track and supports look very neat. But that red train... and the helicopter... I was also hoping for an ultra themed coaster like Black Mamba. For Heide Park this is a great addition. They do have a nice selection of rides now: mega-woody, looping coaster, inverted looping coaster, bobsled, gyrodrop, mine train, some very descent water rides... Is Heide Park on it's way to become Europes Cedar Point? I would like to see that Intamin Gigacoaster coming to Heide Park! -
If you get the chance, you should go to "Efteling". Wonderful theming and a new coaster that just opened this year. Walibi World is also worth visiting, but I would go for Efteling. Drievliet in The Hague opens the first launched X-car looper in the world. All parks can easily be reached by public transport from Amsterdam.

They really build it fast. In this pace the coaster will be finished in june! btw: look at the weather in the Netherlands... Sunny and 15 degrees Celcius. The dutch theme parks should have opened two weekends ago. -
Five days left, and Í'll be riding this thing. It looks amazing. Candidate for best themed roller coaster worldwide. Beat this Disney! World records are temporary, legends are forever. Kingda Ka will lose its record within the next five years, Steel Dragon will be beaten by the next Intamin Gigacoaster and the design for a twelve looper is already there. But this kind of theming... makes you wanna go back to the park over and over again.

It looks like they still need to do a lot of construction work. And testing after that.... Will it really open in june? Two months left... The thing looks really amazing. For such a small park - with all do respect. It looks like the stunt Holiday Park performed with their Expedition GeForce. Keep up the good work Toverland! -

Blackpool Pleasure Beach ADVICE?
Janster replied to Adam_C's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yep, you should be warned about Wild Mouse. It looks like an innocent, not intense, kiddie coaster, but it's really INSANE!
