Photo TR: Chris goes to Kennywood for the first time.
Myself replied to Ccron10's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
It must not have been serious. I didn't hear anything about it when I came in at 6 to work. Ghostwood has only one blocking point; if you did end up riding it later on, it comes right before the room where the car stops and turns around. If there is no car in the room, approaching cars proceed as normal. BTW, Kennywood has nationality picnics and the day you went was Polish Day so that's why you heard all of the polka music. The Racer only has three trains. It's odd, IDK why they never bought a fourth one. -
Retro Photo TR: Idora Park 1983-84

If the fire hadn't occured I think the park would have survived into at least the late 90s. And, if it had fallen on hard times, I wouldn't have put it out of the question to see Kennywood Entertainment purchase the park as it had the same goals as most of their parks. It's a shame the fire came and began Idora's demise. It looked like a really great park. If the blueprints have survived to 2009, I would love to see the Wildcat and/or the Jack Rabbit reconstructed somewhere. Also, the picture of Kooky Castle caught my interest, as it bears a great resemblance to my favorite dark ride as a child, Le Cachot. -
I've not done any credit whoring...mainly due to lack of opportunities. That said, does anyone know if I can be a credit whore on the Delgrosso's Wacky Worm? If I need a child with me to ride, I'll pass. I've also heard that Waldameer GM Steve Gorman can often be found in the Ravine Flyer II station, and if you talk to him, he'll let you go on Ravine Flyer 3. We shall see...

That video is just one of many things that is making the single week before my visit seem so long. It looks like a worthy successor to HSTC. Kudos to Knoebels and Kozmo's Kurves. -
1. I've only ever left Pennsylvania once. We got lost and entered Ohio, before the days of GPSs and Mapquest. I don't remember it ever happening. 2. I own a car, yet I don't know how to drive and only have been behind the wheel (of a different car) one time (as of this writing, that'll soon change). 3. I suppose I have some experience driving, however, as the train I drive at Kennywood has a gas pedal. 4. Often times, on many forums, I abandon my post before finishing and posting it. IDK why, but obviously, that is not the case here. 5. I haven't used my Nintendo Wii since January...waiting for SMG2 and NSMBWii to come out.

Missed Credits: Coasters you COULD have...
Myself replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wouldn't ride coasters until late 2006. So as far as missed credits go... -Steel Phantom (prior to becoming Phantom's Revenge of course) -All Hersheypark coasters except Fahrenheit, which was added two years after my visit -Both Dutch Wonderland coasters I'm not including the rest as I'll have them within two weeks thanks to my vacation. -

I called the completion date! It looks spectacular, and HTSC's station fits Kozmo's Kurves much better than I thought it would. As stated earlier in the thread, this is probably the most anticipated 'kiddie coaster' ever. But who cares? It's one more credit I'll be getting and it looks like a great fit for the park. -

I've been considering doing a "Beginner's Guide to Kennywood" with photos I've taken during my many trips to the park. You've done all the work for me. It's that good. -

Wow, they weren't joking! It wouldn't surprise me to see construction completed by Tuesday (if that). Since testing seems to have been done at the factory, it looks like it may be open by the end of the month. -
What is your next park?

Idlewild tomorrow. It's a more relaxed amusment park, but it's still a fun day. -

I like the color scheme of the train. I am really hopeful that this (as well as Flying Turns, but I'm doubtful on that one) is set up and open when I go. I've figured the date to be August 10th so here's hoping they throw it together quickly! As mentioned on the official website, assembly is supposed to start almost immediately. -
-Ghostwood Estate is indeed a shooting darkride. A lot of people like to ride through it without shooting to see the scenery, but most of the stunts are target-activated. It also has a preshow that confuses many first-time riders into believing it is a walkthrough. -Yes, the Log Jammer has a hill right after the first drop. It's not something I have seen on other log flumes, and it sometimes even provides airtime. -We don't require you to have a kid ride with you on the Lil' Phantom so if you want to credit whore on it go ahead! -The Bayern Kurve is our "new" ride this year after being removed in 2004. There are very few left so you may want to ride it as well. -Kenny's Parkway is only used on very busy days. It is not considered a park ride persay, it's just a means of getting down to the entrance from the third level of parking (the lot is on a hill). If it is running, I suggest giving it a go as it provides a nice view of the park. You cannot ride it separately though; it is a one way trip down and you cannot go back up until you leave. If you ride it down and it is not running to go back up, the park usually provides shuttles so you don't have to walk. -Currently, there are only four ex-Hershey boats on the Raging Rapids (look for the ones with the names and numbers on stickers!), but a few others have borrowed seats and other spare parts. The Hershey boats and Kennywood boats are the same model. -Garfield's Nightmare does have TVs in the queue that tell you about the history of the ride. Again, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Send me a PM if you want to know ANYTHING about Kennywood. I am the person to ask, trust me. In brief (really, it is, believe it or not!): -If you're a history buff, you will LOVE Kennywood. -All of the wooden coasters are unique, and each dates back to the 1920s (although the Thunderbolt is from a 1968 expansion). All are terrific rides that you must ride at least once. -The Phantom is the park's signature ride and is NOT to be missed. -The Exterminator WOULD be your average Reverchon Crazy Mouse, but it's in abuilding and has got kick@$$ theming. Another unique ride that you need to hit. Be aware that this will be the longest line at the park. -The Auto Race and the Kangaroo are each fun rides that are extinct elsewhere. Likewise, the Turtle and Noah's Ark are each one of two remaining. Hit all four if you can, but expect to wait a while for Noah's Ark and the Auto Race. -Other historic rides you want to try and hit are the 1926 Dentzel carousel, the 1927 Mangels Whip, and the Olde Kennywood Railroad, a ride that tells a brief history of the park, and whose engines are 70 years old and have a unique history themselves. -I would have advised you to ride the oldest ride in the park, the 108-year-old Old Mill, but since it is currently a crappy Garfield themed dark ride, it is skippable. Do try to hit Ghostwood Estate, however. DAFE rated it at #3 best in their most recent member survey. -DO NOT LEAVE THE PARK without eating Potato Patch fries. If you think the line is too long, Small Fries in Lost Kennywood is a smaller stand that sells the exact same fries. Again, this is a brief list. If you wish for me to tell you more, send me a PM. I hope you enjoy your visit; Kennywood really is as good as everyone says.

I once got a coupon addressed to me for Just For Men...a certain type made specifically for gray hair.

Sure it took them a while to open Twister, but it was well worth the wait, right? Why would this be any different? You have to realize that they weren't familiar with the ride. No one else is, either, so they would probably run into the same problems, or simply ignore them and open the ride...which could lead to far worse problems, most of which could lead to injury, and shutting down the ride. Knoebels wants to do this right. That said, I do think it is odd for them to go without any improvements for extended periods of time. I've read that they essentially been waiting for the new trains to arrive, and in that time they were fine-tuning the ride. I can understand if they want the trains to be comfortable to ride in, but that's not what I'm getting at. How many months ago did they begin dismantling the transfer track? It's been gone for a few months, I think. Yet they haven't started the new one yet. What are they waiting for? This is an issue where the train probably doesn't matter, so I don't know why they've not started the new one, especially since they resolved more important issues, such as replacing the final trough with a flat curve, without the train. On to the new prototype train...I think the padded seats will easily resolve the comfort issue. I like the design, and if it were me, that would be the design I'd go with. -

Kennywood or Knoebels?
Myself replied to Capitalize's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd always suggest Kennywood, but if you come to Kennywood with such little time, you won't be able to experience everything that the park has to offer. I'm sure Knoebels is much the same way, but if it's an hour closer, I'd say go for it as you'll be able to experience it more fully. Kennywood is also in a more urban area than Knoebels so you would expect longer lines and definitely more traffic. Closer park = more time, so I'd say go for Knoebels on this one. But do try to devote a full day to Kennywood in the near future, however. -
I am finally visiting Knoebels for the first time in August and look forward to it immensely. I have seen and heard about all of the must-rides and know what rides to make sure I go on at least once while I'm there. My question is about what to eat. I am aware that Knoebels has won the Golden Ticket award for best park food for the past 7 years, so I know I will enjoy whatever I eat there. I have viewed the menu on their website and have seen a lot of meals that sound delicious. Unfortunately, I won't be able to try it all, as I'm only going to be able to eat two or three meals there. For all who have been to Knoebels, can you give me advice on which foods are the best of the best? Thanks in advance!

With a little luck, it'll be open by mid August, when I visit. That looks a bit intense for a family coaster, but as HSTC's successor that's to be expected. Looks like a good fit for the park. -

I prefer taking photos to appearing in them, so at Kennywood I work the following rides (all these photos are mine): Ghostwood Estate Auto Race Olde Kennywood Railroad -
"'In the unexpected event'... This is a very suspect phrase, especially coming as it does from an industry that is willing to lie about arrival and departure times. '...of a sudden change in cabin pressure.' ...ROOF FLIES OFF!!!!!" Besides the airline announcement segment, I also love his "Soft Language", "Things We Have in Common" and "Ten Commandments" segments.

Yup I think so. Have you successfully conquered the lift hill, you own a new credit. I disagree. How could you even hold a conversation about the ride? Yeah, that first drop was great. The ending? Uh.... I say no! This is true, but given that the tunnel and the prelift are probably Hades' best known features, it may work here. That said, I don't think that it would count as a credit if you got stuck at that point.

On Saturday, Hades at Mt. Olympus got stuck in the turnaround at the far end of the parking lot. What's amazing is that some lucky guy was filming the ride and filmed the train not making it over the hill: Here is a video more like one you'd usually see of stalls. Here, the train is evacuated. I wonder what happened that caused it to get stuck?
