I second the notion that these things can't get ripped out of the ground quick enough. -

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

What kind of pull does World's of Fun get? I mean really. It's not an overlooked park at all. It is just a park that is not worth investing a lot in because it doesn't attract the crowds that other Cedar Fair parks get. -
You say that, but what are you actually doing to save those poor and dying souls? Besides, it is one turkey. There are millions that are being slaughtered. There is a surplus of dead turkeys.

So what? It is just a rumor. Can't we start a rumor that they are getting a Vekoma flyer? It's the same context. -
64 million are killed during the holiday season. Get your facts correct.

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

I have to say that I, like Robb, basically called the Geagua Lake was going to go under. Anyway. I don't see why this wouldn't go to Dorney. I know that the whole planning thing gets really obvious there, but, why not for 2008? I don't really want it because it would take out Laser and that area over there, but I could see it happening. This thing is not going to be relocated for the 2007 season anyway so it will take some time for site preperations and will allow us to get a good idea of where it is going. -
Islands of Adventure really interests me. It's like the modern park mystery. It's so full of legends, rumors and secrets.

From what I understand that seems to be the whole point of passing the ordinance... to get everyone on the same page. Literally. And that page is written in English. So we have to kick those people out just because they don't speak English? Why can't there be efforts made to get these people to become English speaking and productive members of society? Shouldn't we want motivated people? It's the same thing with people that are in prison. We should create preventative efforts to keep inmates out of prison and put money towards getting them out and keeping them out and making them productive members of society. I see both of the situations are very similar.

That Zierer coaster looks like something straight out of Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Shouldn't we strive to make things better though? Why should we settle? Looking away from fast food for the moment, let's look at what happened with the corporate world when the Enron scandal hit. For years companies had gotten away with faulty accounting systems that allowed them to cheat the system through embezzlement and what have you. Then, with the Enron blow up, Sarbanes-Oxley was put into effect which basically reiterated the rules and regulations that were already in place but were not being followed. Auditors were much stricter and financial systems were and have been much harder to cheat. Now, corporations are complaining that they have to spend more money to adhere to the regulations. They are basically crying that they cannot cheat the system anymore, but all-in-all, isn't it the right thing to do? Where did the term business ethics go? Going back to food service and fast food - There are currently regulations for food service and employment which are regulated by the FDA and OSHA. They cannot do all of the work though. It is the job of the members of society to bring problems to their attention. These organizations are basically getting away with murder. This isn't even about fast food. Sure, it is a fast food premise that the move is based around. But this is more of a human rights issue. Like I said before, shouldn't we strive for some sort of perfection and not settle just because?

I haven't really read anything but the article in this thread but I'm just going to go off. I'm sorry if I repeat anything that has already been said. I think this is absolutely ludicrous. This country was supposedly built on the grounds freedom and equality. Not to mention, it was started by a bunch of immigrants. We have traditionally been a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds. Isn't that what this country was all about? Now, everyone wants to become territorial and prejudice. I mean, there will always be some sort of stereotyping, prejudice or racism in the world, sadly enough. But why can't people just work together as a unit, as a world, as one? Everyone has to point fingers at supposed troublemakers, and for lack of a better term, supposed scum. To tell you the truth, I think the people that passed and believe in this kind of action are the true scum. They view immigration as a bad thing. They see, for example, Mexicans as a nuisance to society and a problem. When is it a bad thing for people to have initiative and to try to better their lives? That is all these people are doing. They are not stealing jobs (they are gladly doing jobs that most Americans would not think of doing). They are not doing anything brutally wrong as far as I can see. They are just perceived as dirty because they are living poorly because nobody will give them a chance. Why can't we work together? Why not have some sort of literacy programs for these people? Why can't we try to work them into our society? They could be truly great members of society, not to mention functional members of society. Why kick out perfectly good people? Why not welcome them in in an attempt to make our country more prosperous? I guess we are just scared that they are going to steal the country away from us like we stole the land from the Indians.

^ Not to mention reliable and safe rides. It might seem like they are playing the conservative card, but they are just doing what works. Why change a good formula?

^ Haven't you seen the studies that show that roller coasters are bad for you? I don't see this as trying to sway people's opinions. I see it all as giving everyone all of the information. Now, I completely agree that if you choose to do something that is considered bad for you, then you have the right to do that. And if you do it when you as much information as you can have at the time, then more power to you. It is just when people don't take all of the information at hand into effect when making decisions that makes me mad. And like I said before, this movie and book are not just about the food. I truly believe that these are not "perfectly good businesses". There are things wrong with how they are run and how they treat their employees. I don't believe this causes drama either. If it weren't for people going out and doing projects like this we would all be floating around in our ignorant bubbles for the duration of our lives.

Why is everything always secretly backed by PETA? I hate it when people say that. It was a book by Eric Schlosser. It was only by Eric Schlosser. He was an avid meat eater. None of his research was swayed by opinions. He went out and did the research himself. The movie is based off of his findings. And the movie and book isn't just about fast food. There are a bunch of meanings within the movie and book. It reveals underlying things about the fast food industry, corporate America and how employees are treated within the industry.
