Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Yeah. Just don't want people showing up and thinking that they're going to get tons of rides in during that hour. -

The early entry can get pretty crowded, too. However, if you're going during the week, the lines won't be horribly bad during the day. If you're there on a weekend, get a Fast Lane pass. The last time I went I stayed at Breakers and took advantage of the early entry. I was only able to get one ride on Maverick and walk over to Millennium Force. I just got into the MF line before the general public started making their way back. -
Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
1badgmc replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The last few times I've gone have been during the week in the summer. Since Hurricane Harbor is included with the admission here, it seems that on a hot summer day, a large percentage of the cars in the parking lot are guests for the water park more than for Six Flags. Lines are generally short for most of the day giving 2-3 train waits on most coasters, if not less. Mr. Freeze and Scooby Doo have generally been the longest lines I've dealt with, but they've never been more than 30 min. or so. There was one year I stopped in after leaving NE Indiana in the morning. On the way, I stopped and went up in the Gateway Arch. I got to the park around 3 or so and still had time to get in all the coasters and some other rides before the park closed. -

Look at it this way, the Fast Lane can actually save money. My Cedar Point visits are unfortunately few and far between. They're generally when I'm visiting family in NE Indiana, about 3 hours from the park. Whenever I visit, I like to go for 2 full days plus a Starlight. That allows time to leave from the family's place later in the day, show up, get checked into whatever hotel and then take advantage of the Starlight, still leaving 2 full days after that to more leisurely enjoy the park. I always make sure my visits are mid-week to lessen the crowds, but if I'm up there in the middle of the season, crowds are still heavy and it can still be a push to do everything. My wife and I got lucky on our last visit 3 years ago. We didn't do the Starlight, but day 1 was a gloomy, overcast day with a couple of short rain showers. It kept temperatures down and crowds away and allowed us to relax and take in the majority of the park with a few re-rides on Maverick, Millennium Force, Gemini and Magnum. Day 2 was sunny and crowded. We were going to try and get to the Point this summer, but money isn't going to allow it, so we'll try and plan on it next year. With Fast Lane, it will really cut the cost. It will be a family of 4 (myself, my wife and 2 boys), so Fast Lane passes would run us $140 for the family. With FL saving enough time so that we can actually do the park within a single day, I have no problem driving to the park and back to Indiana in a day, so that eliminates the Starlight tickets and the cost of the extra day tickets, 2 nights in a hotel plus all the food that would have to be bought on those extra days. That savings right there is way more than the $140 spent on the FL passes. -
Oh god I found myself riding one of these in my younger year before I knew better. Sitting in a bird cage, and you sure as hell ain't singin. I rode that ages ago when it was located at Dogpatch USA. My cousin and I loved it back then. Of course, being 25 or so years ago, I was obviously a bit smaller, which probably helped.

The Most Shocking Ride Removals
1badgmc replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My only trip to Vegas was in 2009, so High Roller was long gone. Like you say, the ride itself surely wasn't much, but I wanted to experience it. Speed: The Ride was closed when I was there, so I didn't get to ride it either. Front row at dusk in 40 degree temps with high winds and sprinkles...My wife and I were freezing our tails off. That is the only ride I've ever ridden in my life that scared the crap out of me. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Last month at Six Flags St. Louis, while standing and waiting for them to drop the ropes in the morning (it's about 10:27), a woman in front of us turns around to us like we had asked her a question, and then starts complaining, "If the park doesn't open until 10:30 they should say so on the website instead of saying 10:00." I don't know which of the 10am Six Flags parks she was looking at the schedule for, but St. Louis opens at 10:30 all summer. Never 10:00. I just gave her a blank stare. Once she realized we weren't interested, she turned back around. lol -

I LOVE Wildcat and would really hate to see it gone. Fix it up and keep it running. Schwarzkopfs are a dying breed. -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
1badgmc replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm going to have to say Big Bad Wolf too. I've never been to BGW, so I never got the chance to ride it. To me it always seemed like a signature ride that they would keep around for years to come and I always hoped that one day I would get to experiene that dive down to the water. I've always been fascinated by the Arrow suspendeds, but the only one I've ever ridden is Iron Dragon. Their numbers are dwindling. I hope I can get to ride more before they all disappear. -
I have a 40D that I love, but I sure do need some good glass for it. That 100-400L would be a nice addition. I'll likely never get any shots so cool from a park. My theme park visits are so few and far between that I don't even bother bringing the 40D since I'll be concentrating on riding and don't want to have to worry about the camera. I just bring a good P&S that will fit in a cargo pocket and take what I can get.

Six Flags raises parking fees.
1badgmc replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You probably just got lucky with someone not paying attention. I probably should have tried that 2 weeks ago at SFStL with my SFOT pass, but I had already paid for my parking online ahead of time. -
Food and Fatties of Middle America!

Agreed. The humidity was the real killer. It's 105 here today with 31% humidity. MUCH more tolerable than what I dealt with in St. Louis. -

I was at Six Flags St. Louis last Friday. It wasn't hot so much as super-humid. Mid-80s with humidity near 80%. I was dripping with sweat all day, but at least lines were nearly non-existant all day. I rode Ninja and it didn't seem to beat me up as badly as in years past. -
Being a Texas coaster and all, I think that was supposed to be like a saddle horn. That's what it came across as to me. On my second to last ride of the night, I was just so wore out that I didn't feel like putting my hands up on the ride, so I held onto the thing and it was effective for me. Maybe it would work better if you held onto it with one hand and threw the other hand up in the air yelling "yeeeehaw!" for the entire ride??

There was really only one crew member that I had problems with when it came to stapling. He got me really bad! Painfully bad! You definitely need the bar tight, but that was just a bit ridiculous. I stayed on the opposite side of the train from him for the rest of my rides. The rest of the ops were a little more gentle on my fat gut. Snug, but not ridiculously so.

How Old Are You & What Was Your 1st Coaster?
1badgmc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't remember how old I was or for sure what my first coaster was. I was probably 2 or 3 and the coaster was most likely at a small amusement park that used to be in my home town called Fun Land. The park is no more, but it had a Little Dipper. When it comes to the big parks, my first coasters came from Six Flags Over Texas. The Runaway Mine Train and Judge Roy Scream were the firsts there and I know I was 5 when I got my first rides on Shockwave. My oldest son, now 9, hit the 36" mark before he was even 2 yet and was able to ride Canyon Blaster and Mini Mine Train at SFOT at 1 year old. He has now passed the magical 54" mark and can ride everything. My youngest son is now 5. The poor guy isn't the beanpole of his big brother and he only hit 36" last summer when he was 4. Unfortunately, we never made it to any parks last year. His mother took him to SFOT during spring break this year and got him on Canyon Blaster, but that was all she tried him on. I took him to SFOT a month ago and found he had JUST BARELY hit 42", so he got his first BIG coaster rides on Judge Roy Scream and Runaway Mine Train. We'll try and get him on Shockwave later this year. -
My wife and I had an absolutely amazing time time at TGB yesterday. It was our first ever TPR event and we hope it won't be our last. We started our day on the third train out of the station in the morning (the awesome black Caddy train) and finished up our night with Robb on the last train of the night (black again), ending up with 8 rides in the morning and 8 rides at night. Sweet 16. Thanks to Robb and Elissa for organizing this event and to the Six Flags employees who helped make it awesome!

When you're looking at around 8:30am to 11:00pm, that makes for a looooong day. I'm sure the wife and I will head out to the parking lot and crank the a/c for a bit. The weather was great 2 weeks ago when we went to the park, upper 70s and sunny, but I'm betting on temps in the 90s on the 14th. I'll be needing a break for sure.
