  1. You can go to Guest Services just inside the gate at SFOT and have your child measured and they'll give them a colored wristband for their height. I did this a couple times with my kids, but gave up. It's pointless. None of the ride ops pay attention to the wristband and still want to measure the kids. I really do wish they would take note of Cedar Point's operations. I took my wife to CP for her first time a few years ago after she had grown up going to SFOT. It didn't take her long to notice the efficiency and better professionalism of the operations there. If she notices it, then anyone can see it.
  2. I was there yesterday with my wife & kids. It was my first trip since the ride opened and after reading of the long lines and breakdowns, we decided to hit it first to try and avoid the issues. We got in line for JLBFM about 9:45 and the ride opened a few minutes after 10:00. By the time we got off the ride, the queue was filling up in a hurry. It's too bad they're having so many issues with it because it is such a cool ride.
  3. Right. Especially if you're driving. From Texas to St. Louis you pass through Springfield, MO which is only 45 miles from Branson.
  4. Sweet. I hit a fresh batch of cars yesterday, so now I have 4 hands up and 4 hands down for myself (3 of each to open and play with and 1 of each to keep carded) and grabbed 6 more for my son and daughter. I also ran across this today. The next version that should be out in a couple months will be blue. Blue Loopster
  5. I wish Six Flags would take note of this. This is something that even the general public notices. My wife isn't an enthusiast, but she enjoys going to the parks with me. SFOT was the only park she had ever been to in her life until I took her to CP in 2009 after we got married. She completely noticed the general enthusiasm and efficiency of the CP ops compared to SFOT. As much as I love SFOT, the ops make me sad too. It's always refreshing when I go and come across a ride crew that's at least attempting to throw some enthusiasm out there and trying to keep the lines moving.
  6. Yeah, this is a pretty standard flood along Johnson Creek. It just looks dramatic with the rapids by the mine train. This is nowhere near the worst flooding the park has received here.
  7. Maybe it's just the simplicity. The swings are like a playground swing gone berzerk. It's just a simple back-and-forth, but it's great! Cedar Point has both ride types with MaXair and Skyhawk. I like MaXair a lot. It's fun. But Skyhawk is by far my favorite flat in the park.
  8. There are actually 2 variations of this. One with the hands up as shown and another with hands down. I just found myself a few yesterday, but I only found the hands up variation.
  9. Hot Wheels has a new casting called Loopster that will start showing up in stores next month. It looks to be based on an old Arrow looper train design. It has hooks front and back, so buy a few, get some orange Hot Wheels track and set yourself up a roller coaster!
  10. I've used Bonine and just Wal-Mart generic motion sickness pills that are non-drowsy.
  11. I never made it to SFOT to ride Namtab last year. Not that I feel I missed anything. Coasters going backwards (especially through inversions) has always unsettled my stomach. As I get closer to 40, I'm more sensitive to some rides and Batman turns my stomach a little bit. I had no interest in seeing how Namtab would sit with my body.
  12. The opposite is true for me. Backwards and inversions are not a good recipe for me. I like Freeze's launch (when turned forward) better, but overall, I like Poltergeist better.
  13. Boomerang's train has been parked there since Thursday around mid-day.
  14. The balloon is tied to a light pole in the queue for Motorama. Also, in the grass within Motorama's layout, there are orange surveying flags and some green lines spray painted on the grass.
  15. That would be pretty awesome. I've only ridden the Condor at SFGAm, but I love the ride and wish there were some closer. It would be sweet if SFFT got a Condor, but I'm not counting on it.
  16. On our visit last month, we stopped at a stand to get some ice cream bars and cups of ice water. The employee was too busy talking to other employees to pay attention. I was busy handing out ice cream bars when my wife about came unglued over the nearly $50 bill. The genius translated "cups of ice water" into "$5 bottled waters." 5 bottles of water @ $5 a pop. Insane! Especially with a vending machine right around the corner from the stand selling the same bottles of water for $3. I got my refund and we got our free "ice" waters (with no ice). That guy was a winner.
  17. As a native Texan and frequent SFOT season pass holder, I'm almost ashamed to say I've never been to SFFT. I've only SEEN the park once a couple years ago when my wife and I were on our way out of San Antonio from a quick day-trip and stopped at the La Cantera mall. We'll change that in a couple weeks, though. We'll make the 5 1/2 hour drive down on Wednesday the 23rd. We should make it there in time to have a few hours to check out the park a bit that evening. We'll spend Thursday in the park and since my wife and daughter are fish with legs, we'll go to the water park on Friday. I might have to desert them in the water park on Friday to go take in some more rides on the coasters. I'm looking forward to it. We're giving ourselves enough time to enjoy ourselves without having to be rushed for anything.
  18. It may not look like much, but it's a great ride. I could just ride that thing all day long and be happy.
  19. My parents took me there a couple times when I was a kid. I loved that place!
  20. Yeah. We were lucky. I sometimes think that Fate put us there to finally take that drunk off the roads for good. At least it was just a flat. Good call on the fullsize spare. I spent most of my traveling time growing up in the midwest with a couple trips to the Smoky Mountains and a trip to Florida. I'm a huge Route 66 fan and I've covered the entire modern route from Chicago to OKC and I've taken several excursions onto the old road to check things out. Back in 2009, my wife and I drove to Vegas to get married. It was a quick trip (left on Thursday and got home early Monday morning), but we crammed a ton of stuff into that short trip. We took in as much of Route 66 as we could between Shamrock, TX and Kingman, AZ including the Tower Conoco, Cadillac Ranch, Wigwam Motel, etc. We did a Clark Griswald Grand Canyon stop after staying the night in Flagstaff. We spent a couple hours. I got to see the Grand Canyon with snow on the walls. Pretty cool. We didn't take a tour of the Hoover Dam, but we did take a helicopter flight over it. Then there was the Vegas experience. We walked from the Plaza at the end of Fremont all the way to the Mirage at the end of the strip. We did Manhattan Express (never again) and all the Stratosphere rides (X Scream is the only ride that's ever scared me!). I was disappointed that Speed: The Ride was closed while we were there. It opened a couple weeks later and then closed for good not long after that. We need to make it on out to LA, though. There are so many things there I want to see and do. That would be a good trip. I'd love to take the PCH/101 all the way from So Cal up to Seattle.
  21. My dad pulled a 19' travel trailer with a crew cab dually. lol I'd rather have more truck than I need, even though I feel my Suburban is barely adequate for the job. We had a 2010 Suburban 2500 (current Suburban is a 2011) and 27' trailer that we lost in Indiana in 2012 when we got t-boned by a drunk driver. Let's just say the Suburban held up very well against the '94 Nissan Sentra that plowed into us at about 60 mph. He hit right on the b-pillar between my seat and the back seat where my 2-year-old daughter was sitting. The Suburban was totalled, but was still able to drive 1/4 mile to the tow yard under it's own power. The trailer was jack-knifed into the Suburban. It crushed the front corner of the trailer, twisted the frame and knocked a couple holding tanks loose. It was totalled as well. My wife, daughter and I walked away. They both had small scratches from seatbelts, but I didn't have a mark on me. The driver that hit us was not wearing a seatbelt, not to mention being plastered, and didn't survive. He was a 53-year-old whose license had been suspended for over 20 years for DWIs. The cops said that when they got the call, they knew it was him and hoped he hadn't killed someone else. But that was the event that got us into our current setup. We only have a couple small trips in it so far. Sometime we'll get it out for a long haul. I especially want to spend some time exploring the western states.
  22. I had a 132 max speed on my Garmin for a while, but that wasn't an error. We have a 31' trailer we pull with a Suburban 2500. The rig is pushing 50' and can get a bit hairy sometimes. The trailer is also pushing the max towing weight of the Suburban too. I'd love to get a Duramax dually and a nice 5th wheel and have the better maneuverability, but we use the Suburban as transportation for everyone when we travel with my parents. I'd be happier if GM had the nads to put the Duramax in the Suburban 2500 as an option instead of just the 6.0L gas. Oh well.
  23. Max speed 195!? What do you have powering that rig? lol Great report for a great trip. I grew up in an RV family. Before my parents bought their first travel trailer in the early '80s, they borrowed my grandparents' trailer. I traveled with them well into my 20s. I have tons of great memories of those trips. Now I have my own trailer for my wife and kids and I and my parents have moved up to a motorhome, but most of the time when we go camping, we still all go out together with both RVs now.
