Semi Photo TR: CGA Opening Day
dpxtreme replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, the Vortex ride area is pretty nasty. At least the exit and the arcade doesn't smell like puke anymore! (Or maybe it's just me). With Reptar, Rain Maze, and the Taxi Jam theming being repainted, hopefully Flight Deck, Vortex, Demon, and Psycho Mouse get some much needed paint in the coming seasons. The one thing I'm stoked for is Haunt. -

I have a strong feeling that it was Cedar Fair that revived The Orbit. This is what I'm thinking. Paramount decided to tear out Orbit after the 2005 season. But then they were in talks with Cedar Fair about the acquisition, so they halted the removal of Orbit and just kept it SBNO for 2006. Then Cedar Fair decided to keep Orbit. Again, this is what I think happened; it could've been for a totally different reason. -

Finally, someone who doesn't bash Cedar Fair for everything they do. I never liked the movie and TV references either. They are not the greatest names, but the name doesn't make the ride. Yeah, Drop Tower is the most boring name on the face of the earth, and the sign sucks, but would that prevent someone from riding? No. Once this season is over and 2009 rolls around, all the focus will be on the GCI coaster and other park stuff. Flight Deck and Drop Tower bashing will be a thing of the past. A side note. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like the Flight Deck and Drop Tower bashing is only being targeted towards CGA. I haven't really heard anyone bashing Carowinds, KI, KD, or CW for their Drop Towers. Granted Cedar Fair made these decisions, but why is everyone ganging up on CGA? -

^Umm...the big tower in Nick Central still shoots out water. -

As much as I hate both names, I'm starting to get used to the name Flight Deck. And the sign isn't to shabby. Drop Tower on the other hand...Worst.Name.Ever. The sign makes it even worse. The has got to be one of the worst signs I have ever seen. I don't see why they couldn't keep the giant neon "Drop" portion of it. Once thing I give Cedar Fair major points for is the Halloween Haunt. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like Cedar Fair puts a lot more effort and money into their parks Halloween Events than Six Flags does. -

I believe that was Paramounts doing... Yup, it was all Paramount's fault. Granted they gave us some good stuff like Top Gun and Invertigo, but there was more damage done than good, like: -Shorter hours -No more Halloween events (except Nick-Or-Treat) -No more themeing (Cedar Fair and Paramounts are themeless with CGA). -Triple Play, gone. -Tidal Wave, gone. -Orbit, almost gone. -Stealth, gone. -And probably a lot more. I bet if Paramount's was still around, CGA probably would've lost Orbit, Berserker, and maybe even Endeavor. We probably would never see a new coaster for a long time. The park would just be in a huge hole if they were still around. -

^Were the other 3 major coasters (Grizzly, Vortex, Invertigo) dispatching quickly? Hopfully FireFall has some decent themeing when it opens. I also hope they keep the audio for Flight Deck. They could just cut out the part that says "Top Gun". -
TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
dpxtreme replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Flight Deck (CGA) 2. Batman: The Ride Only two I've been on. -
1. X 2. Riddler's Revenge 3. Scream! 4. Ninja 5. Deja Vu I did not like Batman and I think Flight Deck at CGA is a lot better. Tatsu was fun but not comfortable by any means. Goliath was fun but I'd rather have inversions (with the exception of Ninja) over speed. I don't know why, but I loved Ninja the first time I rode it.

Flight Deck at CGA would be weird somewhere else because the final helix would not be over water anymore.

I've only been to SFDK about 3-4 times, and each of those times either the rides took forever to open or they were down all day. The last time I went there over the summer, the only coasters that were open at opening were Medusa, Kong, and Boomerang (I didn't care about Cobra or Roadrunner). Roar didn't open until half way through the day with a one train operation, and V2 didn't open until much later. That's what I like about CGA. Although their coasters are not spectacular, they keep them open! God forbid an amusement park would ever have their rides running! And SFDK's flats totally get smoked when compared to CGA's collection of flats. ^SFDK has one of the most bizzare layouts for a park I've ever been to.
-
There are two HUGE things CGA has that SFDK doesn't have...STRAWS and LIDS!! haha. Bottom line: If you are going with smaller kids, go to SFDK because of the animals and 3 kids areas. If you are going with teenagers or adults, go to CGA. SFDK just does not have enough stuff to do if your not into the animals. I went to both parks last summer on days where both parks were dead. I stayed at CGA longer because there were more rides to keep me occupied. Too bad you only can choose one park.

Photo AND Video TR: Opening Day at SFOG!
dpxtreme replied to Scaparri's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I've only been on Stealth when it was at CGA and Tatsu at SFMM. I've been stuck on the brake run on both of them for quit a while before because of a down-time, and I find laying down on the Vekoma is more comfortable than being in the flying position for quit a while. I just personally liked Stealth better than Tatsu overall. -

I definately agree about Flying Dutchmen > B&M Flyers. I've been on both and the Vekoma version is MUCH better IMO. I also think the Vekoma versions are way more comfortable. I've still never been on a B&M Hyper yet, I got to get to one soon. I've been on Goliath at SFMM, but it's a Giovanola. -
It all depends what your there for. If you like animals, go to SFDK, if you don't, go to CGA. Once THBS opens at SFDK, both parks (SFDK and CGA) will have 8 coasters, 2 kiddie, and 6 large ones. And since your going in the summer, CGA will be open from 10-10pm the majority of the summer. For me personally, SFDK's falt ride collection fails miserably IMO. CGA has a lot more and they are a lot more thrilling. Back to the coasters. SFDK's best coasters are Medusa, V2, and ROAR, and maybe Tony Hawks when it opens. Boomerang and Kong suck giant monkey balls. CGA's best are Flight Deck, and Invertigo, maybe Demon. But they also have Drop Tower (intamin giant drop) and Delirium. All 3 of CGA's water rides are better than SFDK's IMO. A lot of this stuff was already stated in above posts, but i'm just saying it again.

Highest $$$ Earning Roller Coaster
dpxtreme replied to deano's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm thinking Giant Dipper at SCBB. -
If is is a GCI coaster, that means California would have 3 with Roar at SFDK, the one at CGA for 2009, and the one (speculated) at SFMM. Which brings me to another point. SFDK is only about 45 min - 1 hour away from CGA, and they are getting a new GCI. So having one in SoCal would be absolutely no problem as long as it is not a clone of the other 2.

That's exactly how I feel. ^Where I live in Northern California, the high today is supposed to be about 57 because it's raining. Next week it's suposed to be in the high 60's. -

^Hey, 68 degrees is pretty cold when there's a breeze! But then again, i'm used to warmer weather. I hope to get down to Knott's some time.
