SFGAm TR 4/11/08 park closes after 2 hours!
dpxtreme replied to tsalas08's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would've also taken the free passes. You can't expect a park to give you more than a complimentary ticket if the park shuts down due to weather. If I were Six Flags, I would've done the same thing and only give comp tickets and not give meal vouchers. -

Well, last time I walked by it I heard the jet sounds, but I wasn't paying attention to see if the Top Gun music is still there. -

The audio is still there. It just might not have been turned on. I walked by there last week and it was still playing. -

I don't want to ruin it, but I think everyone will be very impressed with the fire and water effects when the ride opens. And the themeing around the ride is really nice. I was really surprised at how nice the ride area looks. -
FireFall is looking impressive in my opinion. They have a huge area to work with and they are taking advantage of it. A second "volcano" is going up on the back of the ride. The rock work in the front of the ride is looking nice where the water is going to be. I just hope there are a lot of trees and plants around it. I also hope the program will be decent.

And Intamin drop towers are way better than S&S towers IMO. -
For me personally, I can deal with it raining. As long as it's not raining the whole day, I have no problem going into a gift shop browsing, or a restaurant and just relaxing for a couple of hours. Now, I haven't ever been to Carowinds, so I don't know what kind of shops and restaurants they have there. And I just looked at the weather for Charlotte, and it shows it's supposed to rain the whole day. Unless it changes by tommorow night, I would personally take a raincheck on Carowinds.

I think the rides that close when it rains even a little are any coasters or rides that have drive tires to advance the train/ride forward.

dougr's family spring break to NorCal-Photo TR

Unfortunately all of the stations at CGA suck. What's funny is the suckiest coaster in the park, Grizzly, is the only one at the park with a covered station. -
Ok. Three things. You forgot about Psycho Mouse which was in 2001. And I know you put a ? next to Survivor, but...SURVIVOR IS NOT A COASTER!! It does not run on gravity. And I highly doubt 2010 will bring a new coaster; it's possible but not probable. Unless it happens in the 2009 season, I think 2010 will be a season of repaiting coasters and other fading rides. Vortex and Flight Deck are in need of some desperate paint. Followed by Demon, Psycho Mouse and Taxi Jam. Invertigo does not need paint at this moment, and Reptar just got repainted this season. I also think Centrifuge cars and platform, and Orbit's cabins and arms need some paint.

^Wait a minute...Vortex is fun but Flight Deck is rough!?! I think you got it backwards. Just in case you got your coasters mixed up, Vortex is the purple and yellow stand-up, and Flight Deck is the black invert. As old as Flight Deck is (15 years), I think it's once of the best aged coasters out there.

When it comes to park attendance, I remember one time last year where it was a Saturday with some event going on and also the San Jose Grand Prix that weekend. The lines for the rides were ridiculous. The line for Loggers Run strteched out across the wooden dock/bridge to the Sweet Treat building. But overall, the park attendance does seem like it has dropped.

^Yes Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight is the original Mariott sky ride.
-
^No. They're currently only using one side.

The Spongebob 3D movie is still playing, but the HB film has been gone since 2006.
-
^Woaaa. You can't rag on CGA for removing Sky Whirl, when SFGam also removed it.

Demon is not rough at all. The only jerky park of the ride is the transition into the corkscrews. Vortex and Grizzly are the roughest. -

I was thinking they could call it Magnitude, meaning the magnitude of an earthquake. And according to RCDB, there is no coasters called Magnitude, they can trademark it I think that would be a kinda cool theme for a wooden coaster in California. Stampede is fine by its self. Santa Clara Stampede sounds horrible. I guess Cedar Fair is really trying be western lately (Maverick, Renegade, ?Stampede?). The ride is still a long way down the road, the it could just, and hopefully be, the project name. -

The park looks really cool in the dark. Psycho Mouse has lights that run along the track. Demon is fun in the dark because the whole ride area is really dark. The other coasters just have standard lighting on the lift hill. A lot of the flat rides look neat with all the lights lit up. If you go on Loggers Run, you get a view of the entire park. IMO, Loggers has a better view of the park than Drop Tower and Star Tower.
