Kennywood layoff workers
DenDen replied to Thrillrider92's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Technically, I agree. If there really was a "slump", they wouldn't do it outright, but they used to do major coupon promotions for free admission with Giant Eagle. -
Kennywood layoff workers
DenDen replied to Thrillrider92's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Great point, but it was also Kennywood's creativity that also allowed them to survive. It wouldn't shock me to see Kennywood go backwards for a bit and offered the ticket system again. As they did in the depression, allowing patrons to enter the park for free and see free shows allowed people to enjoy the park and spend money, even if it was just a little bit. It was this nickel-dime theory that helped Kennywood through hard times. -

I think I saw somewhere that it is a sit-down and inverted mix, and its themed to Battlestar Galactica. -
^Hmm, learn something new every day. Not so sure my TV can do this though. Have a Samsung LN-S series LCD TV.

I LOVE RV shows. I go to the one here in Fort Lauderdale every year. I even got friends to buy one a couple years ago at the show. (Yes, I got a complimentary camping trip for it, they love it!) -
You pay extra for Digital Cable. I don't. Our basic cable here has 70 channels without any massive boxes. I hate cable boxes!

OMG! Love the red barron pizza box! and the bunny! Awww, so cute!

Here in Fort Lauderdale, all the stations have been digital for a while, and I've been watching the over-the-air digital broadcasts for about a year. Here's my input on the subject... ---If you've purchased your TV in the past couple of years, more than likely it has a "digital tuner" built in. (RTFM!) If your TV has one, you have nothing to worry about. ---If you have ANY kind of cable or satellite TV, you have nothing to worry about. They will still broadcast in analog unless you pay for their digital services. ---Digital Cable is NOT the same as DTV. But don't worry, nothing changes for you either if you have digital cable. ---You only have to worry if your TV is a couple of years old, and does NOT have a digital tuner, and you use it with an antenna. You need the converter box. I personally LOVE digital broadcasts. All the channels here are broadcasting multiple channels on their signals, so I have actually a lot of choices for just "over the air" TV. (I use an LCD HDTV with digital tuner, and a DTV antenna which only cost $25.) I tend to watch it more than my cable, since our local stations broadcast in Hi-def, and the cable company requires a special box to do that for an additional fee. I'm even picking up station in Palm Beach. It really is worth the transition. The drawback to digital TV is that you either get a channel, or you don't. If the signal is week, you can't pick it up at all. In a place prone to long-range power outages and disasters, that's kinda not a good thing when you're trying to see the news after a hurricane.

Hi R&E&K! Thank you for my Bag-o-Crap! It's the coolest thing since sliced bread! No wonder we love TPR! -
I just find is a tad disturbing that the paint is already pealing off the Intamin. But the park does look nice.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
DenDen replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love to see it when parks like Knoebel's and Kennywood make attempts to preserve amusement park history like this. (More so now-a-days Knoebel's is taking the lead on this.) To me, they're doing this to make their park even more a "one of a kind" tourist attraction that you can't find anywhere else in the country. I think it's a great idea that suits their park well. -

Yay for TPR Bags-o-crap! Thanks guys! Looking forward to it. (Or should I be scared? hehehe) -
On the contrare! I love TPR. Everyone here is quite friendly. Yea, it is prodominately straight, but this is one of the FEW types of social groups where it's so open. (Let's face it, most of us queens have worked in theme parks or tourism industries.) Just stick to the topics, and you'll make great friends, even if they are only virtual. I don't think I've ever had a problem here, and thats in part to all the hard work R&E and the mods do. They keep it nice and fun for everyone. Other web sites on the other hand....

TPR TV or CoasterTube

TPR TV: It's CoasterTube for the Masses -
You know, it's quite exciting to see "mystery track" now and then. But it doesn't beat the pure comedy gold that comes from speculation threads. So on that note... It's for Boomers.

Kennywood and Cedar Point TR
DenDen replied to Wood Dragon 1988's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thats because everyone go the "recommended" route that the park tells everyone to go. A good tip: From Downtown Pittsburgh, take Forbes Avenue, cross Birmingham Bridge (also known as Bradey Street Bridge). Left on Carson Street. Take the 8th Ave./Riverton exit. It's a straight shot from there. An easier way to give these directions is to just follow State Route 837. There is RARELY ever any traffic jams going this route, except when going through the Homestead neighborhood in mid afternoon. But it's not that bad. -
I think you could ask this about anyplace. When I lived in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, it was culture shock coming from a city that was mainly black and white. But now I'm so used to living in places where I'm the minority, I don't even think about it anymore. I sometimes actually prefer it. Being a token white guy is fun a lot of times.
