Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (BGT Discussion Thread)
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's going to be removed, along with the boat and water play area when it transforms into Sesame Street. The rest of the rides will be staying and at least one new flat ride added. Dead inside. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This was completely my mistake, apologies. The following coasters have been added to the poll and will appear on the massive list shortly: Mad Mouse - Michigan's Adventure Mad Mouse - Valleyfair Psycho Mouse - California's Great America They will not be updated until after results have been tabulated for the 2017 poll. New / changed coasters will be added in batches every few months. -

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to BarryH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Um, excuse me? Do Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, Toy Story Land, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, the upcoming Ratatouille attraction, the upcoming space restaurant, the upcoming Tron Lightcycles coaster, the upcoming Epcot / Hollywood Studios Vacation Club resort, and the upcoming Star Wars hotel not count as new experiences? I literally just typed "D23 2017 announcements" into Google and found that list, which is for Walt Disney World alone. While I'll concede that several of the above list already exist or will exist in other Disney parks before these open, I'd be willing to bet that the average Walt Disney World fan will be very happy that those experiences are coming to them. There are many people for which an international trip just isn't viable. -
SeaWorld San Diego (SWSD) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to CoasterJunkie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That kind of coaster is tough to enclose properly because of noise. Part of the reason why most "themed" launched coasters are spaghetti bowls is because they allow for long launch and brake run sections in between the station and the main circuit, allowing the two areas to be separated physically, thematically and audibly. It's a big deal for destination theme parks because guests shouldn't be able to see the attraction's show building from the normal pathways. If you ever go ride Rock n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios or the Paris studios park you'll notice how you can't see or hear much of what's going on after you watch the train launch. Edit: Old video, but an example. Start at 4:58. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, while you should spend more time at Knoebels (because Knoebels), you don't NEED to spend more than a day there. In eight hours, you will be able to get on everything you want at least once, and still be able to relax. As Hersheypark is the focus of your trip, just let Knoebels be what it is for most people - the best no-commitment, humble, relaxing amusement park in the mid-Atlantic, if not the entire United States. -

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M apparently also has another hyper / mega coaster on the slate for a Happy Valley park on their slate as well, so those unpainted sections could be for that coaster or literally any of the other B&M coasters that will be opening in 2019 and / or 2020. -
Don't worry about it, thanks for sharing them (and also thanks, everybody from SFNE Online)! For everyone's benefit - you don't have to go through the usual "used with permission, yadda yadda" disclaimer but you definitely need to say where the photos came from regardless. We're one big sappy family of an enthusiast community, after all. What we do ask is that if you take photos of something yourself, you upload them as attachments to the forum as opposed to another site so we can link back to them in our Park Index.

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Respectfully, you shouldn't be posting this on a forum. Parks place a lot of trust in the confidentiality of their designers, managers and contractors, and you're violating that trust. If you are part of the construction company as you say you are, you could get into a lot of legal trouble by leaking things like this. I've worked for several theme park design firms over the past few years - do you see me leaking things? No, you don't. Because not only is it illegal, it also spoils the fun. -

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So... everyone? Specifically vacation-goers. When you only have one shot to make your vacation go smoothly, of course you're going to eliminate variables, such as waits for attractions, with an unlimited line-skip pass. I would honestly be surprised if semi-regulars to Hersheypark dropped on the pass at all. If I were still living in Pennsylvania and could go when I wanted to for a day, I wouldn't spend any money on even the lower, single-ride tier. -
40 Random Questions [2018 Off-Season Edition]
A.J. replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thank you! I personally think that it should be Olympia Looping (if / when the show company can't take care of it anymore), but any of the three traveling Schwarzkopf coasters (maybe even Zonga too!) is the correct answer to this question. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As someone who was a semi-local to Hersheypark for twenty-five years, I wouldn't. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I would go to Hersheypark maybe once a year. I never went in with the expectation that I would've been able to ride every coaster, including Skyrush, during my visit - and I have never had a single visit to Hersheypark, even on the busiest weekends, where I have left unsatisfied about the rides I got to go on. Even now, when I'm on the complete opposite side of the country, I still wouldn't go for the Fast Track pass if I were to visit Hersheypark when I fly home every few years. However, I do concede that this is a great thing for singles, couples and families that make Hersheypark their vacation destination once every few years (like yourself). It will mean that their visit will be as hassle-free as possible - and that's great! When you have a great experience, you come back, and that's what they want. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes! This is exactly the kind of feedback we're looking for. Thank you! This has been fixed. The search function will be broken on that park's Boomerang for a few hours. We included Fantasiana's because we felt it was large enough for our list (none of the Wild Train 8s and 15s are there), and Formula for being the equivalent of a wild mouse. Cobra is a major roller coaster full stop. Can you let us know about some of the powered coasters you've found left behind? There shouldn't be any powered coasters on the list. We included Orange Streak, Jaguar and the like, so we wanted to include the majority of custom-designed Zierer Tivoli coasters. These have all been added. We won't be adding Legoland Florida's Dragon coaster since it's a Vekoma roller skater. Deutschland's and Malaysia's are a larger model made by Zierer. That has been deleted. We don't intend on including Golden Horse models on the list unless they're relatively unique like the double tilting coaster. We are including Vekoma mine train clones though. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Wait, that's $110 on top of the admission price? Maybe this is just the "needs vs wants" unpopular-opinion young person in me, but that seems a little steep. How many hours would that save in a day, anyway? -

MackManiac - Worlds first loop for karts
A.J. replied to Taron's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That wasn't an "almost" that actually did happen back in the 90's thay installed and operated, briefly a looping waterslide. Yes, but they tried it a second time a few years ago with that crazy coffin "Sky Caliber" thing. From what I understand, it never opened to the public. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey everyone, Just a reminder that if you haven't done your ranking yet, or haven't touched it since we initially opened the poll a while ago, to please do so! We're really looking for feedback / ranking lists from our readers that are local to or have been on tours (with TPR or otherwise) to parks in Asian / Middle Eastern countries such as China, South Korea, and the UAE. We know that there are a lot of great coasters popping up, and we want to get a great sample of people who have been on any of those coasters! A note on that: the Happy Valley park in Chengdu was previously absent from the list, it is there now. Anyone who has ridden Fly Over Mediterranean (the Mega Lite) can and should add it and the other coasters to their lists. In addition, please also take note of any "new for 2017" coasters that you have ridden, such as the DC Rivals Hypercoaster at Movie World and Gold Rush at Slagharen, to name a few. Thanks so much! -
MackManiac - Worlds first loop for karts
A.J. replied to Taron's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks super-cool, but Hersheypark called and they want their logo back. I wouldn't hold your breath, that would require so much time for loading / unloading, families wouldn't be able to participate together, you couldn't take anything with you, yadda yadda. Pretty much the antithesis of the typical "destination theme park attraction". -
Thought this would be good for anyone who has ever had this question... For Robb, Elissa and everyone else local to Orlando that has a Florida resident Walt Disney World annual pass - are the extra days afforded by the higher-level passes (Platinum and Gold) worth the upgrade over Silver? I was thinking the Gold tier would be the best option for a "worry-free" AP because the Halloween and Christmas parties are separately-ticketed events anyway. The extra PhotoPass options don't really matter for me. Thanks!

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It looks like they stopped the train on the lift a few times - they may be testing it completely under gravity (center of the train at the very top, and then let go at 0 mph) to make sure it can get through the circuit without valleying, before later letting it go over at the desired speed of the lift hill. -
If you're planning two separate hotel stays - one in Anaheim and one in Los Angeles - then you'll be in good shape to see all five parks. Yeah, if you want to experience "vanilla" Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion, you would have to come sometime in August. Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday are pretty great, though! Just be aware that wait times for those attractions are going to feel like an eternity.
