Schlitterbahn Kansas - Verrückt Water Slide
A.J. replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, as much as I like airtime I'd rather not get hurt. I don't care that it's "my responsibility" or that I should "shake it off" or whatever if I wipe out going over what used to be the jump hill. I want to be able to go down (and up and down again) the slide, get up out of the raft, and enjoy the rest of my day without having to worry about it... -
Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just because Rocky Mountain Construction comes in and reconstructs a coaster doesn't mean that the resulting coaster has to be super-crazy. If Six Flags wants Rocky Mountain to keep the 42" height requirement, they will absolutely do so if the price is right. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

The Skooters are terrifying. I challenge you to go to Hersheypark to ride the Fender Bender then go to Knoebels to ride the Skooters and THEN tell us that all bumper cars are the same. -
I agree with this - if Dorney would be sending empty trains all the time or waiting ungodly amounts of time for more people before dispatching a train, I would say that they're in trouble. But every train I saw during my visit was filled to at least almost full capacity, which means that the coasters were getting plenty of riders regardless of the apparent length of the queue.

Schlitterbahn Kansas - Verrückt Water Slide
A.J. replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're seriously over-reacting (The thread title? Really?). This slide has not been neutered. To everyone else, this is how the slide will be upon opening and this will be how everyone else remembers it the first time they ride. It still looks really fun. Why is this slide so "tear it down" terrible now? Do you seriously think that they would remove this record-braking water slide that works safely all the time? For all I care I'll gladly take your place in the queue (if I ever get to visit Schitterbahn Kansas, that is). -
Longest SBNO / Shortest Opened Coasters
A.J. replied to Heth's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, Cliffhanger did open, however briefly, back in 2009. It's still standing but not operating - but I think that has more to with the park it sits in. -

Lighting Racer during a downpour is fantastic. It's doesn't go fast enough for the rain to hurt you but you get absolutely soaked. -
This is absolutely true. NoLimits, from my experience, is a program for visualization. I don't believe under any circumstances that you can design and produce a complete roller coaster using NoLimits alone. In fact, I'm pretty sure that in most cases a roller coaster's design is already finalized (or close to it) when a NoLimits visualization is created. Camiel looks to be really good at what he does - it's the sort of thing that I do but with trains and tracks as opposed to environments - but I don't think that he actually does any legitimate roller coaster engineering. I'm willing to be proven wrong but skeptical A.J. is skeptical.

This has been going on for several years at least. I've only heard the rattle, I've never actually felt it. -
How is that even possible? lol In my opinion it is haha. Just the length of airtime on Goliath was better than El Toro. I haven't been on Goliath and I still call shenanigans. El Toro has long, sustained airtime over all of its big hills, and an ejecting "pop" on the hill over Rolling Thunder('s area).

Why doesn't RMC provide a grab/handle bar?
A.J. replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Part of the reason has to do with why they use the shin restraints - the cars have completely open fronts, so there's no place to have a grab handle to begin with. -
Why does RMC use two different coaster trains?
A.J. replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Arrow trains used to run on Vekoma coasters. Also, Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters trains used to run on Gravity Group and Great Coasters coasters. -

I'm not a big fan of huge speculation anymore, but I think that a relocation of Lightning Racer and / or Wildcat is more likely than a relocation of the Boardwalk attractions. -

Did Golden Horse essentially buy some NoLimits splines and some CAD models? -

Exit 232 (PA 42 - Buckhorn) is probably the best choice because there's a lot of development there - great for getting food and/or fuel on the way out. Lots of choices! -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They may not stay open an extra hour, but from my experience Knoebels always lets people already in the queue lines stay there when the park (or ride if said ride closes early) closes. More times than not, the people waiting in the queue lines have already paid for their rides, as the ticket-takers are usually stationed at the entrance to the rides' queues. -
I think that you're confusing Ride Centerline with Rocky Mountain Construction. Kind of like how a lot of roller coasters have been designed by Stengel Engineering. Sure, the two companies share some of the same people but I'm pretty sure Rocky Mountain provides the track system, train system, support structure and other systems. Think of it this way - Ride Centerline makes the coasters crazy, and Rocky Mountain Construction (or in Lightning Run's case, Chance) makes sure that they're smooth, safe and that they last. Usual "I could be wrong, this is based off of prior knowledge and deductive reasoning" disclaimer...

Awesome. The fourth car absolutely makes that coaster. It's wonderfully terrifying.
