Cedar Point's Dinosaurs will be 4 feet taller and will be the tallest of their kind. -

Does anyone think that will happen? lol First of all I still say the experiences look quite different and I could easily see how people would prefer Behemoth. Plus... now the park has 2 great coasters... if you're spending the whole day I'd imagine you'd ride both multiple times. -

I absolutely guarantee you that this ride was in the planning stages before any of that I-305 stuff happened, and that I-305 had absolutely nothing to do with this ride being a B&M or an Intmain. Not to mention that if Cedar Fair was going to stop using Intamin because of reliability issues and constant modifications having to be made they would have done that after Top Thrill Dragster's nightmare first season. That ride had more problems than I305 could ever dream of having. -

Most whining by coaster Enthusiasts in a 12 hour period. Hopefully they put an oversized "golden ticket" billboard near the entrance to commemorate this achievement. -

I kept editing a post as I kept looking into this and by the time I posted it it was about 10 posts old. I hope it's okay if I just make a new post... Anyway This ride may really have been meant for Dorney. We know they're having issues with height variances lately and they removed Laser a few years before putting anything in it's place... just throwing that out there. Take a look at this view of Dorney. And this picture of Leviathin. I wouldn't be shocked if they just mirrored the design exactly as is to fit it into Canada's Wonderland (Kind of like they did with a few of the Batman clones). That design could have had it's station where Laser was and then stay by Lincoln Avenue and the Dorney overflow lot. Do they own all of that land? It looks like they do. -

Behemoth & Leviathan
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that's ridiculous... not because they feel the same but because if they're going to put that in then why not just remove Flashback... it makes Flashback completely pointless. -

I think Robb is most likely right about the ride not being designed for this park, but I still think the layout is very different from Behemoth and this fits in just fine. Then again we won't know how it rides until it opens. -

Well, I don't think that the extra 5 feet would have cost that much money. So, it all comes down to protecting Cedar Fair's crown park, Cedar Point. Even if they went the extra 5 feet, what are they accomplishing? It's not going to get a single extra person through the gate... it would then be the 4th tallest coaster in the world instead of the 5th and it would be the 3rd tallest coaster in the US (or 4th depending on how you count Superman Escape From Krypton). Who cares? -

They built it a decade ago... I watched the POV's and thought... WOW!!! Finally a coaster that nobody will complain about and then read through pages and pages of whining. What will it take for people to not whine about a new coaster? It's a GIGA COASTER that probably won't make people black out like I-305 (doesn't sound like fun) has a totally different type of layout than Behemoth and looks like it will offer a reasonable amount of airtime (even though Behemoth looks like more of an airtime coaster). The layout is unique and cool... the name is awesome... and it's a GIGA COASTER. What's the problem? The chain lift? Really? I actually think it will be cool to have a slow ascent up such a massive structure. It will be the only coaster in the western world where you have time to appreciate how high up you are. And by the way, the reason that they only went 306 feet probably has more to do with the 28 million dollar price tag than the height of Millennium Force. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

Seconded about Nighthawk... when I was there earlier in the season every coaster was a walk on or at most a 2 train wait (because they run one train on a ton of rides for no reason) except for Intimidator which had a 15 minute wait basically all day and Nighthawk which had over an hour wait because they were running one train and it took them about 5 minutes to dispatch once it got back to the station. Almost every crew at Carowinds was horrible with Afterburn being the exception. The Intimidator crew was okay but they don't let you choose your own seat "Due to the long wait" so instead they have someone there who assigns you to a row but usually misses a couple so the trains are rarely full. Any long lines are usually caused by their lethargic approach to their jobs. -

You're comparing apples to oranges. First of all, Mini Golf is really cheap to operate. You have to pay for the lights for about 2 hours per day, the fountains, occasional maintenance and you have to pay someone to sit in the booth and get paid probably about the cost of 1 game of golf per hour. Go Karts are more expensive to operate but they charge more. These are games... the experience is different every time because it's a competition. With up-charge rides, they are usually a high charge and low capacity so you only need to attract a few hundred people per day to make a profit. Something like Dinosaurs Alive is charging a low price so you would need a large amount of guests every day for a long time and with this kind of experience it's not going to happen. It's the same reason that museums swap out exhibits with other museums all of the time. -

I'm glad people are going back to building enormous traditional coasters. It's amazing that the first two traditional gigacoasters opened a few months from each other and there wasn't another one for almost a decade. The rocket coasters are neat... but they don't hold a candle to traditional coasters. -
I kind of agree that BBW was one of the best coasters at the park but I really don't think that many people will compare the new ride to the old ride. If they replaced BBW with a suspended terrain coaster maybe, but this experience will (likely)be so unique and different it should be almost impossible to practically compare. Does anyone ever compare El Toro to Viper? or Hydra to Hercules? or The Vortex to the Bat? Or King Kong to Revenge of the Mummy? Why does one ride have to be compared to another just because it occupies the same plot of land, seems kind of silly to me. I don't think many members of the GP will compare them... but it's going to happen a lot on coaster message boards. Viper and Hercules sucked and the coaster community was likely much different when they closed the bat. Big Bad Wolf was a VERY popular coaster.
-
I'll say this about the new coaster... while I never complain about a coaster before riding it I think this coaster will be judged very harshly because of what it's replacing. People tend to overrate coasters (and everything else) once they're not around anymore COUGH BIG DIPPER. I try very hard not to do this but Big Bad Wolf WAS a world class coaster and was definitely in my top 10. It was definitely my favorite coaster at BGW (Don't kill me but Apollo did nothing for me and I went before Griffon was built). I probably rated this coaster higher than a lot of people but I think it's safe to say that almost everyone really enjoyed this ride. Fair or unfair... everyone is going to compare this coaster to Big Bad Wolf and it's going to be ridden and discussed VERY critically.

You would think that the employees would be better now than ever with the economy the way it is. Cedar Fair can have it's pick of a lot more people. I don't know if it's a chain wide thing, but I noticed that the Carowinds crews were horrific this year. No energy, no personality and just overall very slow. The only exception was Afterburn where the woman turned the Ride Spiel into a 90's rap style song. The best part was that the other operators were dancing along with it when they were waiting for the next train to roll into the station. -

Breakers Express was 50's? I'd expect that from Breakers but I'm surprised to hear that about Breakers Express. I agree about staying somewhere in Sandusky... they have a Cedar Point shuttle too so you can save money on parking and save your car from being bombarded by Seagulls all day in the CP parking lot. Ps: Don't EVER EVER EVER under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES stay at the Sandusky Travel lodge. lol -
