Best Six Flags Park
coasterbill replied to OrlandoGuy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think Great Adventure has a much better coaster lineup than Magic Mountain does... it's really not even close (though I enjoy both parks). Iron Colossus could change things but right now Magic Mountain has nothing that even belongs in the same conversation as El Toro and even if you take El Toro out of the mix Great Adventure still may have a better lineup. I hate X2 and Green Lantern with a passion though so if you're in the camp that enjoys them then it might be a tougher decision. I thought that Magic Mountain had a lot of good coasters but Tatsu was the only great one... and even that isn't close to El Toro. If we take Apocalypse out of the mix since it apparently got rough since I rode it I think the best coasters there are actually Batman (which Great Adventure has so that's a wash) and Ninja. -

While the last 2 posts made me laugh at least in those scenarios you heard something ridiculous from a source and wanted to know if it was true. What would be more appropriate is... "Was Magnum originally supposed to be getting an RMC makeover featuring 6 inversions, including a zero-G stall" or "was Kingda Ka supposed to be a Dinn Corp launched woodie" And next time please draw some layouts in paint or nobody can be expected to take you seriously. Come on people -
The amount of cost cutting going on at Six Flags parks this season is flat out infuriating. Last season they closed the park at 11PM on busy Fright Fest days and if the park was packed they would announce that the park would be open an extra hour. That's a much better way of running a park than saying the park will be open until Midnight and closing everything early. That's just complete disregard for your guests. If you want to close some shops and food stands then go for it but closing the park early is ridiculous.

Same here. I understand of course that they use very complex math and software to design and fabricate these things but that doesn't make their extreme precision any less impressive as far as I'm concerned. -

I don't want to derail this topic any further so I'll just let it go. But that's not the question you asked, we can go back 2 pages and see that. lol Back on topic... Cedar Point announced on Twitter that Mantis will be open the next 2 Friday nights which is obviously unusual for this time of year. Great move by them. -

I'm glad someone understands because I don't. It's a question but it's a ridiculous question because it's based off of something you just made up for absolutely no reason. There is no reason to ever think that this was ever on the table or was even brought up by anyone before you just brought it up yesterday. It would be like me asking if Rougarou was ever supposed to go under lake Erie and have a turnaround section at Canada's Wonderland before returning to Cedar Point and then attaching an MS paint mockup of this idea. Nobody has ever suggested this but since I just made it up I want to know if it was ever considered. If I were to justify this dumb question by suggesting that Canada's Wonderland removed their standup coaster to make room for the turnaround then it might actually be a better question than your question about Millennium Force having a loop because at least with my question something happened to make me think it might be possible if I were completely insane. -

They did a massive amount of re-tracking on Twister... I really don't get how anyone thinks it's rough but then again enthusiasts always complain about Batman the Ride, Maverick and Kumba being rough too so maybe I shouldn't be too surprised. -
Guess this Coaster! (By the Layout)

I was thinking of either Desert Race, Formula Rossa or Rita but it doesn't seem to fit any of those. Very close though... -

Why would anyone care about a Boomerang, an SLC, a busted Arrow looper, a painful (by all accounts) wood coaster and a cloned Zamperla coaster? I live in New York state and have never bothered with this park because the coaster lineup sounds like pure torture besides Ride of Steel and the Moto Coaster. Eventually I'll go and get the credits but the coaster lineup seems really, really awful. Again... I've never been there but the lineup isn't going to draw anyone in.

So you just made an image of Millennium Force with a loop for no reason and asked us if it was ever supposed to have a loop? Am I getting that right? -

All of Twister is a lateral fest. It compliments Phoenix perfectly in my opinion and is a really underrated coaster. Personally I'm not usually a fan of wood coasters that throw you around but I think Twister perfectly walks the line between throwing you around and being rough. It's an insane, awesome out of control ride that's still not the slightest bit rough and is very re-rideable. If this ride were it a corporate park it's a guarantee that it would be a brutal ride but Knoebels has no problem spending whatever money they need every offseason to keep Phoenix and Twister awesome. Every time you go you see a ton of new wood on both rides. We spent the weekend there for Phun Phest and the Covered Bridge festival and this park just continues to amaze. They run awesome cycles on all of their flats, the wood coasters are both amazing and they have some really rare rides and games. The thing that makes Knoebels really great though is that they have a ton of flats that are really common but they're almost always run better than they are anywhere else (and with much longer cycles). They have the best Flyers, best Carousel, best Bumper Cars, best Drop Tower somehow even though that ride has no business being so awesome, one of the best trains, one of the best chairlifts, an awesome dark ride / coaster in Black Diamond an awesome Paratrooper that might be edged out only by Fun Spot Orlando, the best classic style Haunted Mansion... maybe the best Round Up. You can just go on and on... and next year they're going to throw a solid steel coaster into the mix. And I haven't even mentioned Fascination or the food... or the fact that they have some of the best pizza I've ever tasted (and I'm from New York and admittedly a pizza snob). -

Another great update. Sorry to hear you weren't a fan of Sling Shot, I enjoyed it though Ripcord is a much, much better ride. Those things always manage to scare the crap out of me. -
The "Oh Sh*^" moments vs. a good ride

Every ride at Conneaut Lake is an "Oh Sh*t" moment because you feel like the ride could legitimately collapse at any minute. I think this feeling is for once completely justified. -

We had a few Oh Sh*t moments on the Knoebels Flyers this weekend. Those are some strong cables. lol -

This... I think it's actually my favorite park in America. Sure there are parks with better theming and taller / faster / more expensive rides but we always have more fun at Knoebels than anywhere else. -
Enthusiasts crack me up. Everyone is convinced that the park is going to replace Twister even though they've proven countless times that they have no issue leaving empty ride pads everywhere and Twister's is actually one of the least noticeable ones. This park will never replace Twister. I'd put money on it. And to answer your other question about adding flats... just my opinion but no. And if they ever do they'll quietly remove 2 flats while adding one in hopes that nobody notices. This park is too cheap to buy a cable for the skyway that probably has really low operating costs and only requires one ride op on either side. This is the park we're talking about here... just remember that.

You do bring up an interesting point. I don't think anyone's ever pointed that out to be honest.
