  1. I've never understood the complaints about Anaconda. I've always found it enjoyable.
  2. Cedar Point is actually investing a ton of capital, just not in overly exciting ways. They're building a huge sports complex to bring more families into Sandusky, they're adding an entirely new wing to Hotel Breakers with 158 new rooms / family suites, they're adding 69 rooms and a new wing to Breakers Express and giving the entire hotel general upgrades and they have the new slide complex and family pool also. This investment is minor by comparison but their blueprints they showed off yesterday don't include Ripcord so they're probably paying to relocate that too. None of that is exciting to most people but it's very expensive when you put it all together. Also. I have a hunch that there's more on the horizon. There are now 2 wood coasters in the chain just sitting there with nothing announced. Kings Dominion is making their announcement in a theater on Saturday in front of 500 passholders. I think at this point it's reasonable to expect an RMC conversion of Hurler which has been sitting there all year, closed for maintenance which isn't visibly happening anywhere. It's not like they're doing an announcement on this scale to announce a GCI retracking and Plants Vs. Zombies. If so that would be a major letdown. And then you have Mean Streak which probably won't be a 2017 addition but may have work going on all through the year if the RMC rumors are true (and so far that seems entirely likely with markings on footers and an early closure). I think in a few weeks we'll have a better idea of where their capital is going.
  3. I feel like that park should really remove both of those pieces of crap and free up a huge amount of room for a much better coaster. I thought Flight Deck was one of the worst SLC's I've ever ridden and Time Warp was THE WORST Volare I've ever ridden (and every model of both ride sucks so that's saying something). They could either scrap them or more them to other parks in the chain and have a huge chunk of land to work with. For a park that draws the type of attendance that Wonderland does their coaster lineup is sup-par once you get beyond the big 3 (Behemoth, Leviathan and Vortex). They have some good family coasters with Thunder Run, Backlot and Guardian (if you count that) but in the major thrill ride department they could use a few more big rides (and they could afford to lose a few crappy ones too).
  4. are you sure sure to go six flags face the mountains and they forgot the limits imposed by the manufacturer? mha I'd love to respond to this but it's so poorly written that I have no idea what you're even trying to say. At SFFT, they have the area from Roadrunner/Iron Rattler over to the kiddie area closed during the event. At SFoT, they had Gotham City, the hill and I'm pretty sure Judge Roy Scream closed during the event. SDC is by far the best holiday park lights I've seen. They cover all of the buildings in lights there. DW does well on Showstreet but pretty much stops or does a bare minimum on the rest of the park. It will be interesting to see how the CF parks compare. I'm honestly comparing Six Flags to Dollywood as I haven't been to SDC so the lights may be a step up at SDC based on your description. I think you'll be surprised with Six Flags though. Initially I thought the lights would be complete crap because I consider their other seasonal event (Fright Fest) to be a complete joke and one of the worst events of it's kind anywhere. Because of that my expectations were low but I was blown away. It's possible though that even if SDC is better, Six Flags might offer something unique. For example, Great Adventure has a huge pixel mapped tree in front of the park (actually the world's largest) that's really amazing. HFE has never done anything that, so it's nice to see some different approaches to decorating. So for me it's a toss up. The decorations at HFE parks will be slightly better, the shows will be infinitely better and Six Flags won't even try to compete. As far as rides though I give Six Flags the edge for their incredibly lenient policies. If I were between SDC, Six Flags and Worlds of Fun on a sunny 35 degree day, I'd be going to Six Flags because they'd be running coasters. The two events are different but I really hate to compare them. I think they're both great. It'll be interesting to see what Worlds of Fun brings to the table but they're up against some stiff competition with Six Flags and SDC so they better bring their A game. Hopefully the competition makes them all better. Great Adventure forced Hershey to open coasters at Christmas Candylane for the first time ever (One was Laff Trakk which barely counts but they added SooperDooperLooper and Wildcat and are rumored to be adding more next year) so we're already seeing how added competition can make everyone try to one-up eachother for their holiday events.
  5. I believe they do but at the same time budget does come into play. Those parks are fully open (for the most part) so they may be spread a little thin, but at the smaller events and parks where they close some sections and load up the other areas with decorations they really do a great job. The HFE lights are slightly better but not by much. They're absolutely in the same league. I was blown away by Great Adventure's event.
  6. For everyone hating on Six Flags I just want to remind you all (again) that they have nothing to do with the decorations. They're done by an independent contractor called Oak Island Creative and they're exceptional. I think it's realistic to assume that Six Flags will run more thrill rides based on what Cedar Fair has shown so far (even at Great America where it seems they're only running Gold Striker despite the mild climate) and Cedar Fair has already shown that they'll adhere strictly to manufacturers temperature guidelines while Six Flags will push the coasters to the limit like they did at Great Adventure. The press release from Worlds Of Fun implies that the rides are not the focus but at Six Flags they've shown that they're a major priority at their other Holiday events. If I had to guess, I'd say that Six Flags will put on an event that appeals more to enthusiasts than World's of Fun. We don't know for sure but it's a reasonable assumption. Enthusiasts are not the target market though.
  7. Well you've posted it in the right thread then...
  8. Where the hell did you get wing rider from? He pulled it out of his a**. Same as all of his other (asinine) posts.
  9. You make far more sense than everyone in the Kings Dominion thread and English is their first language.
  10. They'll need to section off the park so they don't have to staff / decorate / plow all of it so anything near the back of the park is probably out, but things near the front (like Diamondback sans splashdown) should really run. Windseeker has no chance of opening because of it's location but Sky Screamer at Great Adventure was very popular due to the desire to see the lights from above. The ferris wheel had huge lines for the same reason. A ride like Windseeker feels much colder than a coaster. You'd be surprised how the cold doesn't bother you much on a coaster since you're focused on enjoying the ride (until you hit the brake run when you realize how cold you really are), but with a ride like Windseeker / Sky Screamer it's freezing. I'd still take it for a ride though.
  11. But they don't need to open the wood coasters if they don't want. Diamondback should really run though. It's right in the kids area (which should really be open).
  12. Yeah but they're about on par with Hershey, PA and Jackson, NJ. That's why people are complaining. Those parks are running coasters, and in Great Adventure's case they're running a hypercoaster. Kings Island should follow their lead and the success they're having.
  13. With an announcement like that I'm going to guess that this is pretty major. I'm going with my initial thought that all eyes should be on Hurler.
  14. Please take your "sound logic" and "common sense" and get out. There's no place for that type of crap here.
  15. I suggest writing trip reports in word and then pasting them here just to be safe. I've had that happen also. I have a question. On a scale of "Unimaginable Greatness" to "Holy Crap it's Amazing", how would you rate Mystery Mine?
  16. What "seriously depends on how much longer the park is planning on having this coaster"? What are you talking about? And how will the name impact the ride experience in any way? They could give it a completely asinine and terrible name like "Blue Hawk 91" or "Big blue loopy thing" or "Mystic Timbers" and I wouldn't care because it wouldn't impact the ride experience in any way, shape or form.
  17. They could have created a whole new story line around it and a cool paint job. If they did it would have absolutely zero impact on the ride experience unless they put tons of theming around the track which is an entirely unrealistic expectation for Cedar Fair. How many highly themed B&M coasters can you think of in America? Even parks like Universal don't theme their B&M coasters outside of the station and queue area (unless you count the launch tunnel on Hulk which nobody does). If you expect things like that then you'll be disappointed every single time. Try to keep your expectations reasonable.
  18. See, I don't think so because they already have Loony Toons Movie Town in the front of the park. If it weren't for that I'd agree with you. Sure, here you go. And here's some more great information. ... okay fine, here. but the first 2 links are way better.
  19. I think it's a safe bet that they'll end up including Ninja with the re-theme too. With Dollywood and SFOG running virtually every coaster I hope Carowinds runs some of them too.
  20. I mean... there's a wood coaster just sitting there closed for maintenance for the entire season with no visible maintenance actually happening which is unprecedented and with the only major additions being a moderately priced GCI and a Hotel Breakers upgrade it would seem that Cedar Fair has some money left over to spend. I'm not saying it will happen but the potential is there for them to hit us with an RMC hurler conversion. Plus locals can just drive to Six Flags America or BGW for a Christmas event anyway so they might not care too much.
  21. Sure, but it's a major upgrade from what it was before. I don't expect it to be the best coaster in the park but another solid coaster is always welcome in my book, especially when it requires minimal investment so it doesn't tie up capital for future additions.
  22. At first they had basically copied and pasted from the other Winterfest pages but they did update the page and add in this extra tidbit which gives us some reason for optimism. Fury and Intimidator need to run.
